Although, seeing that trailer makes me a little sad. Ah, Pearl had so much more potential. Like somebody said to me; "A Movie about Pearl Harbor should be a little more than just an entertaining summer-flick". I could imagine people seeing that trailer and think to themselves; "This is going to be the best movie of the year".

Hehe. Not in my opinion dude. It was one of the ten best though. I would have want the movie to take place at Pearl Harbor the first 1,5 hours, skip the love story and just make it about life between soldiers. Bigger parts to Tom Sizemore and Cuba Gooding Jr. And Hans Zimmer should have used a FULL orchestra and made a bigger and more emotional score.

You beat me, Jester!
bayfan: I don't know if you'd have the same amount invested in the movie if it didn't choose to force a relationship between a couple of choice characters. If it was just about soldier life in general, you probably wouldn't be able to get too attached to anyone in particular. No matter how you look at it, people are going to be waiting for the attack from the moment the crop duster flies out of the sun, yet you can't start the movie with the first bomb being dropped.

It could focus on Rafe and Danny, but it wouldn't be a woman in the picture. It could begin in Tennesee and Rafe going to PH with Danny instead of going off to fight in the battle of Britain. It could also dig a little deeper into why Pearl was attacked. Dan Aykroyd was great, he could have been in it a little more.
BTW, have you guys seen "Tora! Tora! Tora!"? I like it as a history lesson, but it's probably the LEAST emotional war-picture... ever. That's why I like PH alot more.

I remember reading an article about how Michael's adoptive father saw the trailer he was putting together for PH, in which there were these little phrases throughout, to which he dad said: "get that crap out". Michael supposedly did, but I watch that long PH trailer with the Thin Red Line and think this must be the version his dad saw and didn't like. Also, toward the end, right when the titles come out, there's what looks to be an industrial light (like one used on a film set) in the foreground. Now I don't know if this was a piece of equipment that wasnt' meant to be there, but if it was it's an odd choice, since the first thing in my mind was: "film equipment."
