IIRC, Transformers will Be coming out on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

I've seen Armageddon and BB2 in HD on demand.

What's the difference between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD? Do Blu Ray players play HD-DVD s? Or vice versa?

Think Betamax (Sony/Blu-Ray), and VHS (HD-DVD) for the new age. Obviously, it's more technical than that, but on some levels quite the same. You have what is essentially Sony pushing their proprietary format, versus a group of others pushing for HD-DVD.

I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) Blu-Ray is able to hold more data. I'm sure there are more differences, but off the top of my head the prior statement is the only one I can think of right now.

If you want Fox, Disney or Sony films, you'll need to go Blu-ray. If you want Universal, you'll need to buy HD DVD. Also, Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD 2:1.

Food for thought for those thinking about jumping on the HD bandwagon.

I'm not investing in either until there is a standard. plus, Hi Def technology is too expensive now... that, and I don't have the money for it.

But seriously, I saw and interview with a Nintendo rep, and he said that the reason that the Wii didn't go Hi def is because the tech is not affordable and most people don't have it.

okay, I'm done with my little rant.

standard hd-dvds hold 15gbs of storage while the dual layers hold 30gb's.

for blu ray standard is 25gigs while dual layer is 50gigs.

As for other differences Blu-ray uses java technology in their discs to allow studios to do more creative things with their menu interfaces. But as of now, HD-DVD seems to have a slighter edge with creativity in that dept. but i haven't seen everything, so don't hold me to that.

But what really matter is the picture and sound, not your dvd menu. so how's the picture on both?

Well...right now its pretty much the same. Studios that are supporting both formats are just porting the quality to each format so they look and sound identical. Now blu-ray certainly has the ability to look better. It has a larger storage capacity, meaning sutdios can easily make the sound and image better.

Both technologies are using blue lasers so it's not like theres to much difference in the tech, other then some menu feature stuff.

Trigger is right though, blu-ray is outselling hd-dvd 2:1 and on top of that, more studios are backing up blu-ray. Almost twice the amount as hd-dvd. Once Universal is let out of their exclusive agreement and if they decided to support blu-ray as well. The format war is over right there. More manufacturing companies are making blu-ray machines then hd-dvd. Blockbuster has announced it's only going to carry blu-ray. And Target has announced that it is sizing down it's hd-dvd selection.

So there you have it

Analysts expect the adoption rate to almost double this holiday season.
