Possible concept art?
Personally I don't like it.

^ UPDATE: An MGM rep has contacted CBM to clarify...
"MGM has no knowledge of Mike Jensen & he has never been hired by the studio or the production team to create any designs for the upcoming film, RoboCop. We would like to request that you correct the post."
Phew, thank God!
For those who are interested in my uncle's work in the previous Robocop II here is his site:
http://www.alexpietersen.com/
He did certain special effects i believe.
I'll ask him if he could post some pics on there from those days or explain what he did back then for those who are fans.

Here are some fan concepts that I really like. This guy is doing RoboCop concepts since 2008.

I don't know how legit this is but here we go.
Obviously Drew Mc Weeny got his hands on the script of Robocop and made some comments on HitFix. It's no longer accessible (no surprises here).
SPOILERS!
In the film, when Murphy is turned into Robocop 1.0, it's described "a high-tech version of the '80s suit." Then they show a focus group scene where criminals laugh at the design. "He looks like a toy from the '80s!" So they redesign him to look "meaner" as Robocop 2.0, who passes focus group approval. So they not only make sure to include the original design, they also point out it's dated and stupid.
Hold onto your sides for more hilarious "Robocop" details. They outsource his construction to China. #seriously
And we meet the ED-209s in the field in Iran, where they're used to subdue suicide bombers.
Ahhh... now they just dropped Robocop 3.0 onto an Al Queda training camp to see what he does. "He should be programmed to incapacitate in all scenarios." "Agreed. Let's keep him PG-13, Dr. Norton." No. No. No. No.
By page 54, they are already onto Robocop 4.0, who looks like a "cop on steroids painted metallic blue." Oh, god... oh dear god... Robocop is a Transformer. He goes from "social mode" to "combat mode" and back. Full transformation.
It's tough to determine tone on the page, but "satire" seems low on their list of priorities.
Okay... the two "best" lines in the script. First up is at the unveiling ceremony for Robocop in Detroit, from a TV reporter covering it. "I think it's safe to say that Alex Murphy is now part man, part machine, ALL COP!" Yes, I too remember the original poster, asshat.
Second, after the traumatic first meeting with his father, Alex's son retreats to the apartment of Lewis, Murphy's male partner. The scene ends with the action line "David sits, catatonic, looks at the TV -- MGM REMAKE TBD." It means "to be determined." They haven't decided which of their other movies to plug with that clip.
Someone shows Pope, head of the OCP project, some mock-ups for Robocop action figures. "Are you kidding? I wouldn't buy that for a dollar!"
I'll say this: once the script stops all the winky-winky crap and just starts telling a story, it's not terrible. But it's way too late.If you can get past Robocop The Transformer, there are some interesting action beats. And I'm sure Padilha will direct the hell out of it.
Honestly I can live with most of the above. They start filming in a few weeks time so I guess we just have to wait and see.

A Joel Kinnaman interview with a Swedish newspaper. So for those of you who don't understand Swedish, here's some Robocop related things from the article.
Kinnaman is excited to start shooting the movie, cause he has more than half of his scenes with Gary Oldman.
Reporter asked: "How cool does it feel to become Robocop?"
Kinnaman answered: "It feels pretty cool, or rather really cool. The only thing I'm nervous about is if I can take the role seriously. But at the same time I'm so fucking childish that I'll probably think I'm Robocop for years to come."
Then he tries a punchline from the movie with his perfect American voice with a little more base and says: "Dead or alive, you're coming with me."
"I have practiced it like hell. Did it sound good?"
And the reporter said: "Yeah it does."
So that's all for now. I guess we'll be hearing more about Kinnaman and Robocop when they start shooting the movie.

So after Drew McWeeny made this comment...
.... most of the movie sites started to put the headlines that in the new movie RoboCop will be more like a Transformer and it'll be horrible. That's ridiculous and I can't believe how stupid some people are just wanting to make the headlines. So he has 2 modes - social and combat. I'm fine with that. And obviously his suit have to change when it changes modes. Does that mean that he is a Transformer. Is Iron Man a Transformer. Why is everybody always comparing every robot movie with Transformers?By page 54, they are already onto Robocop 4.0, who looks like a "cop on steroids painted metallic blue." Oh, god... oh dear god... Robocop is a Transformer. He goes from "social mode" to "combat mode" and back. Full transformation.
I don't know how this guy got his hands on the script but something's fishy. And he really likes to blow early details of most films way out of proportion. They didn't even start filming and this guy made the comments like he already have seen the movie. Arrogant /-\$$hole. :dh
Stop judging before seeing anything.
Whenever you run into one of these people and they make some comment about how some movie "is gonna suck," tell them that you assume they built some time machine and already saw the movie in the future.
Seriously, that's what I will say to someone when they say "this movie is gonna suck!"
"So...I take it you already saw it?" : rol
Damn, Hugh Laurie is out.

Deadline:
Not a bad substitution, right? Another unconventional villain. I like the way the studio thinks.I’ve heard MGM is talking with a small group of actors to fill the role that Laurie was to play, including Clive Owen.
http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/no-h...obocop-remake/
I really hoped that the studio will give freedom to Jose about the movie but obviously that's not the case and it sounds like the movie is in real trouble.
Fernando Meirelles:
I don't know if it's intentional but there's a huge negative campaign going with this movie. Hope we forgot everything when we see the first trailer."Recently I talked to José Padilha by phone. He will begin filming RoboCop. He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight. 'This is hell here, "he told me. 'The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.' He is bitter, but he is a fighter "
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/?a=66359
I think this is the part where we're supposed to lose excitement for this movie.
^ Absolutely. And they do this just for a few more dollars. Obviously the studio is preparing us for a non R rated movie.
And still Jose said the movie is good. And I have faith in this guy.
This is a director who doesn't have a single Hollywood movie under his belt...so it's certainly not surprising that he doesn't have "freedom".
That's just how it works - until you have at least one successful Hollywood movie (in terms of box office numbers of course) you'll follow the studio and you will play by its rules. That's the reality. So unless you're Bay, Cameron or Spielberg there's not much you can do when you're up against a major film studio. You may have a vision, but you don't have the influence.
It was the same with Bay when he started with "Bad Boys". People were treating him like crap during that shoot, but the man didn't give up...and look at him now. He's only one of the biggest directors in the world. Maybe Jose Padilha will have the same career. I'm not famillar with his previous films, but I certainly wish him the best.
"You know why the departures and the arrivals at LAX are on separate levels? So the 30,000 heartbreakers that come here each month don't notice the 30,000 that are leaving with their hearts broken."
I saw Easy Money 2 last night (Original title is Snabba Cash 2) with Joel Kinnaman in the lead role. I have now seen Easy Money 1 and 2, Safe House and The Darkest Hour and I don't think Kinnaman is really good in any of those movies. It seems that he has like two facial expressions and that's the normal face and one where he's just out of his mind angry. Compared to Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Kinnaman isn't even close to the same level as actor as Skarsgård is. I just can't see him as Robocop the same way that Peter Weller was. And I understand that the movie company is concerned about the movie and the way it can go. Cause let's make one thing clear. The movie isn't either a remake or a reboot. According to José Padilha it's going to be a Reimagination! So he's clearly having all sorts of wild ideas of how Robocop should look like. Probably all the way from the classic design to a flying Iron Man copy with booster packs on his back and missile launchers on his shoulders and thats the kind of things that can make the movie company nervous. But if the movie company is looking for a PG-13 rated Robocop, then they might as well pull the plug right here and now before the shooting of the movie begins and save their money. There's just no way it will feel like a Robocop movie when there's no violence with blood and curse words what so ever.
OK. So Padilha hasn't made a movie before in Hollywood and that might be a reason why the movie company is keeping him on a short leash, but at least he's made Tropa de Elite 1 and 2 before in Brazil. Simon West had never done a movie in his life and he got to direct Con Air!! as his first movie!
Michael Keaton replaces Hugh Laurie in Robocop. Michael Keaton? Is he still alive?
It seems that the cast will be a B-movie cast at best.
http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/mich...obocop-remake/
I wouldn't call this a B cast.

By the way it's really great that Jose Padilha sounds so positive after all the shit written on the web. No signs of any script problems or the hell that some other people suggested.
Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.
Gary Oldman is the only one who has been in blockbuster movies in resent years and who might be on a A-list.
I wouldn't call Keaton an A-list actor. Let's be real. He hasn't done a big movie since Batman.
Samuel L Jackson. Hey, I like the dude, but has he done anything else recently besides his Nick Fury scenes in the Iron Man movies, Thor, Captain America and in The Avengers? Is he an A-list actor in Hollywood? Highly doubtful. Last big movie he was in before The Avengers was in Star Wars: Episode III.
Joel Kinnaman. He can feel lucky if he gets recognized outside of Sweden's boarders and if he would get to be on a Hollywood B-list.
Rest of the cast I would call a no name cast since I never heard of them before.
But hey. It's not like the original Robocop had a bunch of A-list actors in it and it turned out to become an cult classic. So who knows, maybe this one can turn out to be good after all. I guess the first long trailer will show what kind of movie it will be...
Sure, I'll give you cred for that. I think the TF movies is a good proof of that.
But still. Oldman and Jackson sure know what to do when the director says action no matter what list their on in Hollywood. But I'm still a bit worried about how Kinnaman will handle the role of Robocop...
Agree. I still can't see Joel in this role. He is always smiling and looks like it'll be a difficult task for him to play a character that is serious and doesn't show emotions. And to be honest he looks better with the moustache but unfortunately they'll have to cut it off. And I hope he gains some weight for the role.
We just have to wait a little longer and see, many people gain confidence when playing behind a mask so he may surprise us all.
