As I said before. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it will be released on DVD/Blu-ray outside the US. The only reason I can think of why it would hit the movie theaters in Sweden, is cause Kinnaman is Swedish. I've seen Kinnaman now in The Darkest Hour and Safe House. After the credits started to roll on Safe House and I saw his name, I had to ask my friend who Kinnaman played in the movie? He was like, he was that guy in the last safe house. I was like, OK? What I'm getting at is that his performance on screen is nothing special. Then Peter Weller was 40 when he did Robocop. Kinnaman is gonna be 34 next year and looks like he's barely 30. He doesn't look old enough to be a man who has worked 10-15 years as a police officer. I just don't think that this remake is gonna be even close to the cult classic original...

    Some words from Joel:

I start shooting that in August.
I sincerely hope they’re going for R ‘cause I can’t imagine how RoboCop could be PG-13. That would be a huge mistake. If I have any say in it, I will fight very hard for it. It has to be violent.
    ^I hope too.

RoboCop is going to be a lot more human. The first movie is one of my favorite movies. I love it. Of course, Verhoeven has that very special tone, and it’s not going to have that tone. It’s a re-imagination of it. There’s a lot of stuff from the original. There are some details and throwbacks, but this version is a much better acting piece, for Alex Murphy and especially when he is RoboCop. It’s much more challenging.”
“It’s not going to be jaw action. They’re still working on the suit and how it’s going to look, but the visor is going to be see-through. You’re going to see his eyes.”
^Not sure about the helmet thing.

“It’s going to have a political satire to it too.”
    ^Good. :borat

Honestly, I'm more pissed off about this than I am anything Michael Bay is doing to (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.

    WOW what a casting rumor!

The Tracking Board says that Oscar-nominee Edward Norton is currently circling theRoboCop reboot, with his eye on the role of… Norton, the “brilliant mastermind”responsible for turning brutally-murdered police officer Alex J Murphy (Kinnaman) into a deadly cyborg cop. Devoted RoboCop fans may recall that same character (as played by Miguel Ferrer) was named Morton in Paul Verhoeven’s original 1987 film.
Similarly decorated stars like Rebecca Hall and Gael García Bernal (ie. the new Zorro) are also said to be up for roles in RoboCop, as the two could, respectively, play Murphy’s wife and partner – who, in a melodramatic twist, start a relationship together, after Murphy is killed and resurrected as a half-machine. To top it off, Oscar-winner Sean Penn is apparently wanted to portray (get this) “a right-wing news reporter who sticks to his guns when it comes to his political views.”
    Very intriguing.

To be honest, I've been hoping that a new RoboCop movie would take the form of a RoboCop 4, rather than a remake/reboot. That said, I'm kind of intrigued about the new angle that Padilha is pushing for - showing more of Murphy's transformation into RoboCop. The rating doesn't particularly bother me, but I hope it's not 'violent for the sake of being violent'.

To date, I have not seen any Padilha or Kinnaman movies, so I don't know what to expect from either of them.

The only piece of news I don't like so far is that the visor is going to be transparent - part of what made the original suit 'work' was that you couldn't see RoboCop's eyes, which made him seem a bit less human.

I've seen The Darkest Hour with Joel Kinnaman. He really is a strange choice for Robocop. Tall, lean, blond Swede with a moustache
Still I'm sure that Jose made some screen tests with the helmet on and without the moustache and he was happy with the performance. I just hope he would gain some weight and will manage the accent.

In a sort of unrelated note, the original Robocop, Peter Weller, is voicing Batman in the animated adaptations of The Dark Knight Returns. I say adaptationS because it's going to be two movies.

I would love to see that brutalness back from back then like that scene where robocop gets drilled apart and stuff or like that other robocop going crazy and starts killing everyone was pretty brutal back then.. Hollywood probably can't do that anymore..

And the villain in RoboCop is ..... Dr. House!

According to the trade, Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes RoboCop.
Another strange move but again I trust Jose. He can pull this off.

    Also:

Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch) has been offered the female lead in the Jose Padilha-directed remake of the Paul Verhoeven-directed original. The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman has been set to play the title character, a cop who, near death, is turned into an indestructible crime-fighting force, and then begins to remember his past life. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife, who thinks she is a widow.

A final look at Joel Kinnaman before his RoboCop role.

They start filming in two months and we already have a viral campaign! Me likes.

ED looks great. Still not sure about the RC-2000 color scheme. It's a pretty drastic change from silver to black. I hope they reveal the whole body at Comic Con. I guess that's way the viral campaign started in the first place.

Joel Kinnaman on RoboCop (from Collider):

How do you feel to be taking on RoboCop next, and what can you say about it?

KINNAMAN: It’s a re-imagining. There are ideas from the first movie that have been remade in the second one, but it’s a completely new take on it. We have a fantastic director, Jose Padilha, who reminds me of Daniel Espinosa, in some ways. He’s a very confident, bold director. He wrote, directed and produced Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2, which he also distributed. They’re the two highest-grossing films in Brazil, which is an audience of 150 million people. You need that kind of a strong force in a director that’s going to do his first movie with a big studio. You need a person that can stand his ground on certain things, and know which battles are worth fighting and where you compromise. If you’ve seen his movies, you know that he’s a very talented actor’s director. The acting is superb in his films, and the action is very, very believable. He also has a history of being a physicist. His knowledge of where robotics and neuroscience is now is a complete understanding of where the cutting edge is. He’s working with the writers on a plausible version of 2041, and that’s going to be very interesting. The core of it will be something of substance, and then you have the fireworks around it.

Since you were cast in RoboCop, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugh Laurie have been added to the film. What are you looking forward to, in working with a cast like that?

KINNAMAN: I don’t think I have any scenes with Samuel L. Jackson, but I have a lot of scenes with Gary Oldman. I’ve followed Gary Oldman for a very long time, even before I was interested in acting. But then, after I started making acting my profession, I’ve studied him. I’ve seen Nil by Mouth, the only movie that he wrote and directed, and I know that it’s based on his childhood. I’ve seen that movie five times. I find him incredibly inspiring to watch, so I couldn’t be happier. I’m so proud to get an opportunity to work with him.

Are you going to do your own stunts?

KINNAMAN: I won’t do any stupid things. I won’t jump off buildings. But, I’ll try to do as much as I can.

What’s it like to be a part of a movie where there’s already a viral campaign, even though it doesn’t come out for more than a year?

KINNAMAN: It’s pretty surreal. I saw it online. It’s cool! I realized, quite early, when I did a couple of interviews. You say just a few things about the movie, and it gets such traction. You understand that there’s going to be a lot of attention on it, and you adapt to that. That’s what’s reality.

Was that something you thought about, before signing on to do the film? Were you looking to get that kind of traction, or did you have any hesitation about taking on something so high-profile?

KINNAMAN: I was looking for a high-profile job. I was not eligible for a lot of different parts because I hadn’t done something with this kind of attention around it and that was really frustrating. I met with directors who said, “I’d love for you to play the lead in this movie. You’re the perfect person to play this, but there’s no way I can cast you in this because you don’t have that kind of a name and we need a name for this, so that we can get the financing.” So then, that made me want to get to that position where somebody wouldn’t not pick me because of that reason, at least.

Was the appeal of a character like this figuring out how to bring humanity to the role while wearing the metal suit?

KINNAMAN: Yeah. At first, when I heard about a RoboCop remake, I was like, “Okay, I’ll probably watch that movie, but I don’t think I wanna be in it.” And then, they told me that Jose Padilha was going to direct it and I was like, “Wait, the guy that did Tropa de Elite 1 and 2?” When they said, “Yeah,” I was like, “Oh, okay.” And, he wanted to meet me. I was like, “Oh, shit! Yeah, I’d love to meet him!” And then, when he told me about his take on this, I was like, “Wow, this is something really good and really worth trying to get.” Now, when I’ve been reading the scripts, his vision is really interesting. From an acting perspective, it’s really challenging and difficult stuff that I think can really say something.
