Thread: Novelization vs. Movie

    Default Novelization vs. Movie

I searched the forums, but couldn't find anything related to this topic. However, if I seemed to miss it, please feel free to move or delete this topic.

But I was really quite curious about this.
I haven't yet read the novel (by Peter David) myself, because I didn't want to spoil anything for myself when the movie came out. But I know there's some people whom have had the chance to read the book. So my question for those whom have read the book/watched the movie is this:

Was the movie different and any way, shape or form compared to the novel? If there were changes, did you like/dislike them? Why did you like/dislike them? Did you like how Peter David wrote the novel compared to Alan Dean Foster?

    Feel free to discuss.

The novel is so much different. It was more emotional and made some sense. The movie (to me) felt kind of jumbled in to make the deadline. However, I didn't like the way peter david did the novel. It confused me at first, but after reading it a couple times I got it. Maybe because I am used to Alan dean foster writing them.

I liked the book better myself. Like you said it made more sense out of some of the scenes. It also had more feeling to it. I also like the Ironhides death more in the book and the reaction of the twins. The ending of the book was better then the movies I thought. I understand with a movie you only have so much time to put a story together. THere was things Bay could have kept out of the movie and getting more in depth with the important things. All and all it was a horrible movie, it was better the ROTF. But the book was better!!! I wonder how long hasbro will wait before finding someone to the 4th movie.

Can you describe it briefly? I'm really curious.
Also did the Twins die in the book at some point?

In the novel.. during the Sentinel/Ironhide bit.. one of the twins dies taking a bullet for bee and the other one loses it, attacks and then dies.. I think it would have been pretty cool in the movie as it would have helped put some gravity on the situation.

Yep, that sounds nice. Was there a reaction of the Twins on Ironhide's death? Did they say something?

There was a reaction. In the novel Sentinel shoots Ironhide, tells the autobots he's sorry, but it has to be this way. He aims at Bumblebee and one of the twins jumps in the way saving bumblebee. The other one is pissed and attacks sentinel prime long enough for everyone else to get out of there. I don't remember the exact dialog from the novel. I read it a few weeks back.

It would have been the perfect way for them to go out for people who liked them/didn't like them.
Their part in the Novel was really small though.

Prime was at Andres AFB talking to the President right off of Air Force One and detects that Ironhide, Mudflap and Skids are offline so to speak and urges the President to get back on the plane and out of there.

The way that Que/Wheeljack dies is different and Dino/Mirage dies in the novel.

Que (Wheeljack in the book) ends up crashing into the water in Chicago and ends up surrounded by cons in the water. He fights a few of them off, but is soon overwhelmed.
Pieces of him float off and they lose contact with him.

Dino is decapitated by Starscream a bit before Sam uses the grapple glove and the boom stick on Starscream. He survives in the movie. I think Sam tells Starscream "This is for Mirage" (not Dino in the book).
