    ROTF made about $836m worldwide.
DOTM is gonna easily blow past that number.

It's being reported that DOTM had a 4-day (Thu-Sun) opening of about $60m in China.
By comparison, ROTF did approx $65m total in China.

That is really a big increase this week as a predicted, so Monday it should make about 1 million domestic and 10 million in overseas as my prediction.

The problem is, Japanese movie-goers today prefer Japanese films (mostly dramas) to American movies of Americans by Americans for Americans. Particularly in summer break season, there're many competitors out there. Also, many theaters in northern east Japan still remain closed due to Earthquake damages.

Any good ideas to boost DOTM's standing?

I was thinking the same thing about Japan Sora...doubt many theaters near the earthquare/tsunami ravaged areas are open...movie-going just isn't as important as rebuilding the infrastructure that is necessary for life. Even though the toy line over the (Takara I believe) is popular, I don't see Japan being able to carry it far. Even in China with the premiere this weekend, it didn't take in that much compared to what it did domestically the first weekend. You would think with a billion people in China it would have carried more, but it didn't.

As far as boosting DOTM, let's all go next weekend. I know I am. My wife and I already discussed it and we will be going next Saturday. This will be our third time seeing it. Still have yet to see it in 3d...not sure we will either. As great as I'm sure it is, I don't want to rist not being able to enjoy it.

Yeah, recovery and restoration are the top priority task now.

And when it comes to robots, Gundam (Bandai) is a far stronger brand than Transformers (TakaraTomy/Hasbro) in Japan (even grandmas in their 90s know Gundam). Regardless how much Paramount Japan advertises that Transformers toys were born in Japan, it still doesn't have much appeal as long as movies are about "toys born in Japan are now fighting only in the United States, Russia, Shanghai, and Egypt".

It was very nice of MB and co. to visit Japan when other Hollywood people didn't have courage to do it. Fans are most grateful to him for it. I truly hope general audiences will go see and love the movie.

As a humble contribution, I bought tickets for my 4th to 9th viewing (already seen 3 times in the States).

But, giving the huge box office success DOTM has made internationally so far, sadly no one would care about revenue in Japan anymore.

    I wholeheartedly hope so.

Disney (another "everyone's favorite" in Japan) began ad blitz nationwide long before the movie hit theaters. Their theme parks had POTC things all over it. It was like a mass ad-bombing. Harry Potter is also popular as family-safe movies/books that were recommended by the Ministry of Education. I wish Paramount had such an advertising power.

Transformers DOTM is up to a worldwide total of 882 million now. 900 million is a definite, 1 billion isnt a longshot, now its a decent possibility. The numbers must've been huge in China and hopefully they will be huge in Japan as well. I'd really love to see this movie hit 1 billion dollars worldwide.
