Box Office Results: Crossed the $1 billion mark

Let's wait until we have some more data.

Regardless of its overall performance, "best BO open of 2011" (at least to date) is quite the kudo given the tentpole releases that have already come and gone.

That having been said, I know that record and any other records set this weekend will absolutely be stomped into the ground by the numbers a few weeks for now for the final Harry Potter film.

According to Deadline DOTM makes more than $20M on Thursday. They're expecting it to reach $350M for first 7 days. This is indeed impressive. ROTF made a total of $400M in USA so there's a good chance for DOTM to surpass it.
And the non USA box office is huge. As Nelson posted DOTM is doing way better than ROTF internationally. Also bear in mind that the movie is still not Released in China and Japan. ROTF grossed a total of $23M in Japan and $34M in China. So DOTM will be getting a huge boost in one month from these two.

So the bottom line is: DOTM for 2 days - $64M domestic. The biggest rise will come in the next 4 days.

OK guys, check these numbers Nelson posted. If you make an average of this you'll see that DOTM made 170% higher results than Pirates 4. And guess what - Pirates 4 has just taken the 3rd place in the all time non USA box office ($757M).

This means that if the numbers stay that way DOTM will score a 170% better result than Pirates 4 internationally. Which is $2 billion.
Of course this is just an interpretation of a one day result but don't forget that DOTM opened on Wednesday when it is even harder to make such huge results. Imagine what will happen during the weekend.
Nelson I really hope that you'll be able to post the same results for the other days too. I think that DOTM is about to make a history in the international box office. Of course not like Avatar but maybe close to Titanic.

DOTM is behind pirates 4 in india just because release on wed was limited to some cities only it was widely released on july 1 in india including my town too.
and also that indians do not have a habit of watching films on wed.

Your expectations are pretty higher than mine but if you proved right i will be so proud to participate on the next transformers film in the future in its forums at least like Michael Bay's forums like so many years now ! This is really a tough call. Domestically DOTM will win. Internationally - I won't be surprised if HP surpasses the great DOTM result. So the worldwide will be very close between both.

ROTF made almost $30m on its first Thursday...so if DOTM made about $20m, it's still down a full 1/3 from ROTF.

Unless the weekend numbers break the 2-day trend, linear extrapolation puts the final U.S. number somewhere in the $260m-$275 range.

Don't jump into conclusions so fast. Not from US Box office, neither from worldwide box office. The moment to make a guess is when you know the second weekend drop.

Lots of people thought Avatar box office wasn't going to be so good, according to its 77 Million first weekend, but then it came a 75 million second weekend, and the third week of 68 million.

I don't know if this will be the case, or if it will start decaying at a 60% rate every weekend, but what I'm sure is that we cannot make predictions without taking account of the second weekend drop.

Here is a summary of the International highlights so far:

India - this is the first time a foreign film has released on a Wednesday and it was worth the effort as we grossed $753k including previews from 520 locations. This is 80% up on TF2 and 32% behind Pirates 4 which opened on a Friday. 65% of business was from 3D.
