Let me tell you something...
Many soldiers get "pissed" on in war, and some quite literally. Ever watch Black Hawk Down? What they didn't show was what they did after they dragged the naked bodies of our fallen soldiers through the streets.
This is something I HATE in action movies. So many of you are clueless. You don't have time to kneel over a dead body, look up and scream as everything seems to slow down around you, then grab your weapon and save the day. That doesn't happen. When your brother falls that is NOT how you honor him. You honor him by doing what you need to do to carry out your objective. There's no time for emotion like they show in most movies on a battle field. Where the hell do you think PSTD comes from? All the shit you wanted to react to but couldn't just sits and festers inside you, and some aren't built to handle that much pressure.
How does a soldier honor another soldier's death? I'd live, and I'd make it home. I'd find his wife, his mother, or his now fatherless children and let them know what a hero he IS. That HE was the reason I was able to come home to my family, and that HE's the reason people in this country have the right to bitch and moan about how a fictional robot died in a movie.
As for how Iron Hide's death was in this movie? Realistic, as far as a movie about giant alien robots can be anyway. And I'd dare to say that by winning the battle he was honored in the greatest way.
Some people do believe there's a reason to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Duty.
I know about Black Hawk Down, or Battle at Mogadishu by some. All I am saying is that there could have been something at the end, like there was for Jazz in Transformers 1. Is it really so much to ask? We got some sort of grief for Jazz, Optimus when he died in ROTF, Q in this very movie, but not Ironhide.................Unless the old warhorse's spark is still ticking away some where in some military bunker, which is why nobody acknowledged his death. One can dream, especially in a fictional movie like this, right?
That's true John, but obviously the Transformers aren't realistic war movies, but are very melodramatic (things like Optimus and Sentinel talking to each other while ripping their limbs off), and there's plenty of time for a scene of the Autobots paying their respect to Ironhide before they prepare to head off and board the shuttle. It's like Ironhide got forgotten so the plot could move along, and some of the fans were obviously upset about that, feeling cheated.
By the way, a lot of this thread has been devoted to Ironhide's death, what about how Megatron and Sentinel Prime's death were handled?
Unfortunately, I think DOTM makes the same mistake that ROTF did by dragging out the ending sequence too long, so by the time we get the the climatic robot fight, it gets shafted. I would have loved to have seen a three way fight between Optimus, Megatron, and SP while Cybertron is destroyed above them. It would have been epic and symbolic, with the three major leaders of the transformers wrestling over their destiny. Not only would it have been more emotionally satisfying for Megatron's character, but it would have been more satisfying to see Optimus defeat them in a fair fight. As it is, it's more like, well it's time for the movie to end so Optimus has to kill them both. The End.
I think what Optimus did kinda out of his character to Sentinel and Megatron at the end was clearly showing the depth of grief over his very old friend's death. Apparently it even beat the gleam of hope on brotherhood and master-and-pupil relationship Optimus had held. Ironhide was a born soldier, so defeating foe by all means must be the best way to offer him tributes.
Epps mentioned of the loss of his friend (certainly Ironhide), too. I agree about the part that it would've been better if there was a direct reference to his death, though.
A few thoughts...
I thought the movie was amazing! I've already seen it twice, and hope to find time for a third viewing.
I think Rosie Huntington-Whiteley does pretty well, considering it's her acting debut. Frances McDormand and Patrick Dempsey were good in their respective roles, and I liked the humourous moments with John Malkovich, Alan Tudyk, and Ken Jeong.
I liked Megatron's new look - I wasn't sure how the cloak would 'work' on-screen after seeing the Voyager toy, but it just works somehow.
Laserbeak speaking, while unexpected (I thought he'd be non-speaking, like Ravage or Scorponok), makes him creepier, in my opinion.
Leonard Nimoy was excellent as Sentinel Prime, and I liked watching his exchanges with Optimus. His betrayal really came out of nowhere, especially after the freeway chase (which was awesome) and the standoff between Ironhide, Sideswipe and the Dreads.
The scene with Sam's parents after Sentinel's betrayal, while jarring in tone, was necessary in my opinion, because it establishes that Sam really does care about Carly enough to go to great lengths to get her back, and so it explains why he reluctantly goes along with Dylan's instructions, and his decision to go to Chicago.
After the arrival in Chicago... Wow. Non-stop action.
Overall, the pacing was great - this movie doesn't feel like it's 'dragging on' or slow, which can happen with 2hr+ movies - I find I start to 'feel' the movie's length after a while. Not so, in this instance.
Steve Jablonsky's score was excellent - I was able to appreciate it more the second time around.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Bay and to everyone else involved with making this amazing movie!
I couldn't agree more.... I felt like when Prime killed them both it was like "f you both"
I just hope one of the "rumored" deleted scenes is Prime mourning Ironhide.
I have seen the film 4 times and am still wondering where Prime was during that whole highway chase scene and why he wasn't at the NEST base..... I'm just saying if hes not on base or on mission where was he?

One plot point I didn't get: at the beginning of DOTM the autobots are seen raiding a nuclear facility "in the Middle East", and clearly shooting at people. Doesn't that break two codes of the autobots: that they don't kill people, and they don't involve themselves in human conflicts. OP clearly says in part 2 that considering humans' potential for war, their weapons technology cannot be shared.
My wife's favorite part was the shot of Megatron walking across the desert with his face covered.
what's the problem with you american's. crying about that the story isn't that good. with all do respect, when i watch a porn movie i want to see some action not a story. this is the same with this movie. i wan't to see some action not some kind of dumb love story. i've you whant to see such kind of movie i can advise some other movies. but in this genre this is the best you will ever get!!!!!!!
I watched it last night again, this time in imax 3d. First time we watched in regular 3d.
I enjoyed it 10x more this time around. And I absolutely loved it the first time around.
If u haven't seen in imax 3d, go do it!!!!!
The 3d is sooo much better, the sound is phenomenal. There were so many details I caught that there was no way I could have noticed last time. I want to watch it 10 more times now.
I'm amazed at how much detail went into this film. Again, awesome job mr bay.
That chase scene with the suburbans, I gotta say is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The wing suits were amazing, it felt like I was right there.
Can't wait to see it again.

Isn't it obvious why he killed Ironhide?Originally Posted by SDL

I would have liked a quick line from OP, but his display while being asked for a truce pretty much showed he was a little upset over the situation.
I thought he said something like 'We've had a good run' to Sam.
