After the way that was handled (very poorly I might add, at least Jazz had something in the end) I sat back hoping my second favorite character will have some bad ass moves like he had in ROTF, Sideswipe. But nope, you blinked, you'd miss him. Too many fucking humans, way too many. The space race in the beginning was too long, should have used the time to see some interaction with the Autobots like they had in the first Transformers movie. Too much shit around Sam's work that also could have been used for more autobot screen time. Where were the infamous slow motion battle scenes we saw in the first two movies?

You want shock and awe, I still think they could have gotten it by just keeping Mikaela in here and having her killed by Sentinel Prime, maybe either Lennox or Epps too, and maybe Sam's parents. Ironhide was just a fucking waste and makes me never want to see this movie again. Maybe if Sideswipe had a more bigger role, it would have been better, or maybe if Ironhide had at least survived long enough to get a chance to use his massive cannons in the big battle, I wouldn't be so pissed. And, I was totally hoping for the Megatron and Optimus Prime to commence a truce and rebuild Cybertron, but that went out the window, didn't it.

Transformers is long from a dead franchise. There are still several options open.
    1-reboot
2-(for me) reason why the Autobots didn't mourn Ironhide is maybe the acid gun just pulverized his metal, but not his spark, and he can still be re-ignited into a new shell. Don't forget, half if not most of his body was used parts to begin with.
3-Optimus Prime wakes up all the way back in the first film and realizes the last two were just a nightmare.

Sorry guys. You know damn well I am not a hater and I am not a troll. I'm just pissed that this movie didn't turn out at all the way I thought it would, and not for the better.
Solid points, and appreciated that not everyone liked the film.

Did you guys not think that the Autobots had much time to stop and grieve for Ironhide? (Apologize for my upcoming crude analogy) They were basically in the middle of a situation and had little time for being sentimental - imagine our troops out in the middle East, a shoot out occurs and one of the soldiers suffers a fatality - the rest of the squad can't afford to stop in the moment, they have to concentrate on the mission in hand - that's the way I saw it, Optimus had to find Sentinel at all costs. Sure, there was room after the danger had passed, but I guess it's just one of those things.

I only had issue with the other elongated human scenes in DOTM. Alot could have been left out to give room for more character development/interaction between the Auto's And Decepticons. No need for the Russian bar scene, Sam's parents shouldn't have been in it at all. Completely unnecessary parts with Sam's boss and Bumblebee. Trim all that off and you've got more screen time for the bots.

Watched it again last night and I must say, I really loved Sentinel Prime in this movie. His character stands out, really good job with him and the voicing was perfect.

I perfectly understand the whole thing about not agonizing Ironhide during the situation. Like in From Dusk till Dawn, "Fight Now, Cry Later". But the crying never happened. I also think there should have been a strong emotional response in the end by at least Lennox. Ironhide was his best friend out of all the Autobots, and at the end, he could have finally broke down or something, maybe run to his wife and daughter and hug them in tears???? This is why I am hoping that perhaps the reason why there was no official grieving point, is because Ironhide, in some slim chance, really isn't dead? His body may have wilted, but his spark is still in tact some how.

Yep. I went with a large party, and about the time when the guys were jumping out of the plane, people in my party were starting to get edgy about the lack of good quality Autobot vs Decpticon time, and way too many human crap. Like the college crap in the first movie, the job scenes were totally irrelevant and not interesting to the plot. It broke the flow of things? Does that make sense????

I'm afraid.. i choose ROTF over DOTM .. when i'm in need of some transformers mayhem.
The Devastator transformation is ten times way cooler than shokwave's pet driller.
    and i don't care about skids/Mudflap.

I prefer the scene where they(twins) are in the hangar when SP going berserk over that awful toitlet scene with deep wang. yakes...hopes paramount is smart for releasing a special transformers DOTM edition with the twins and leaving that other shit out !!

    i know i know..it will never happen

I loved the sniper thing, actualy makes sence. Assuming they can't simply repair themselves whenever they want, it's a good way to beat them

I definitely need to see this one again. ( and I will ) But this is what I take away from my first viewing.

The only thing I'm iffy one is John Malkovich's role. In fact I think I may have "accepted" the character better if it were not him & was cast as a no-name. Maybe he'll grow on me in that role, but I was expecting a much bigger part in the storyline when I saw him on screen.

He didn't seem to really have a chance to shine as an actor. I really wanted him to end up being one of the villains who knew more then he was letting on. Almost like Patrick Dempsey & Malkovich should effectively swap roles in a way. ( with modifications if course, IE, the whole steal-your-girl storyline staying with Dempsey somehow. )

But that's my only iffy thing. The rest, especially the cinematography, was everything I love about a Michael Bay film. No one, but no one can shoot like Michael. A true artist in every sense despite what the general movie going public seems to conclude.

A Michael Bay film is not for everyone. But neither is Picasso. Enough people appreciate Picasso's work to make him stand out amongst the crowd. Love it or hate it. And I am definitely a fan of Michael Bay's work.

    I agree with you completely.

The one scene that resonated with me more than many others was when Sentinel Prime and Optimus Prime were driving through a valley, reflecting on Cybertron and Prime's role as leader. That scene only lasted a few seconds, while the ridiculous and dopey comic relief received more screen time. THAT,... RIGHT THERE,... is the problem. Bay invested waaaaaay too much time on trying to make us laugh than actually spending time on explaining who these bots are. MAKING US CARE a little.

Ironhide dies,... poignant moment in the movie which is followed by... DOPEY comedy,... again. WWWHHAA??? :wtf

There is a GREAT TRANSFORMERS STORY yet to be told.

OPPORTUNITIES LOST. in all three films. Unbelievable.

The first scene with Sam and Carly was awkward to me. I love Bays movies, but don't enjoy his scenes that he plays songs with words in the background. It's very distracting.

And as for people saying the Megatron and Sentinel deal didn't make sense time wise, it possibly could. What if during the last days of Cybertron they made a deal to meet up on earth knowing that the Allspark was here.

First of all, this movie is great. the action, the 3D, the comedy, the actors, the plot!

Now I will go into detail on the things I did not like :P

    John Turturro (Simmons)
Should have been used way more! instead of breaking his legs he should have been brought into Chicago. It would have been so epic if he ran of to die for his country again! Though I loved the scenes he was inn! he helps this movie score one more point from me

    The Army.
The Army vs Alien concept was the reason why I loved Transformers 1 & 2. I was kinda sad when they only got shot down in Chicago. We had a few men on the ground, but what was really awesome about the two first movies was the air-support. (the AC 130 from the first film and the aircraft carriers from the second one.) Ground units are cool as well but I enjoyed the machinery in the first two parts more.

    the secret robots.
In the first two movies Sam tried to hide his alien friends. this made the movies very interesting. Like Leo's reaction when the aliens hunted him down in ROTF.

Last I want to add that the wing-suit shots were AMAZING! Great job Michael and good luck in the box office!

Just to pull this bit out of the post....I get the feeling the lack of military here was because they'd had it so much in the last two...

What's wrong with making us laugh? To me that is part of the summer movie equation.

And lots of people in my theater did care, because they cheered and gasped at the right moments. I'm sure that lots of people in other theaters cared as well. The audience "report cards" and box office on various sites bear this out. They enjoyed the hell out of this movie, and although many would try to argue that this result is not in conflict with their personal disliking of the movie, the simple fact is that people like things that they connect to, whether they are movies, books, sports teams, or jello... okay, maybe not jello.

The point is that just because you weren't pleased (and that's perfectly fine), doesn't mean that the filmmaking decisions were wrong (in the objective sense).

This is the same issue I have with the film critics. They think, "I didn't like X, Y, or Z, and because I'm a critic, I know what makes a movie "good", therefore this movie objectively CAN NOT be enjoyable by anyone else. Nope. Can't do it. Impossible That's a fact."

Uhh, film critics, check the scoreboard. Almost $400 million in five days.

Saw it again this afternoon and I gotta say that DOTM is even better the 2nd time around.

There's so much going on (especially in Chicago) that I was able to look at different parts of the screen and see new things.

Trust me, I want to laugh,... if it's funny. There were definite moments of "funny" in the movie. All I'm saying among many, many others is,... it's appropriate to insert comedy when it's warranted. Not when let's say a MAJOR CHARACTER DIES, among a few others. I mean it is a TRANSFORMERS movie after all yes?

And one other point,... it's my opinion. Like so many others here have opinions. It's a message board for f's sake.: rol It would be rather disturbing if you saw clone post after clone post :dhpraising the movie with no differing opinion.

Totally agree. Your opinion is welcome here as far as I'm concerned and I enjoy the conversation. However, let's keep it as a conversation of opinions and not stray into the danger zone of trying to construe our opinions of an artistic endeavour into an objective definition of what makes art "good." We will get nowhere with that.

As for the specific moment I think you're referring to (Ironhide, I assume?), I actually have to say that I didn't personally notice the abruptness of the movie's change in tone. It wasn't until afterwards when I saw it mentioned here that I started thinking back to it. I have to admit, I'll have to see the movie again to see if it "bothers" me, but I'm inclined to think it won't, because it didn't at the time.

Yes, the Ironhide scene was a powerful one. That's why it lost some of its impact when the scene cut to Sam and his flaky parents after the kill. Ironhide was a major player, he wasn't some clone drone bot. So, it was unfortunate to see so many other "unnecessary" scenes get more screen time like comic bits than focus more on the actual Transformers. It's almost like Bay got into a moment in the movie where there is a battle sequence, a dramatic scene and then he'll worry more and spend more time on a joke than what's really going on at the time. Confusing.
