The Official DOTM Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

I saw TF3 last night and felt that this is the worst in all 3 movies..
TF1 - 9.5/10
TF2 - 7.5/10
TF3 - 6.0/10
They are couple things i really want to talk about this movie,
1. The story are just ok, i meant they just don't add any space race for US and Russia is better because this will add the story a bit complicated..let the Sentinel spaceship crash in Africa better and Autobots go find out..
2. This is the last episode already why don't let every autobot got his own battle sequences with one to one with decepticon like the 1st TF movie?Audience will much accept that way
3. Show more decepticons scenes time rather than just the major villains...We like to see Long Haul, Sideways, Barricade, Desert Brawl fight one to one with Autobots...This will makes us satisfied, just don't show Bumblebee and Optimus self action only.

I saw DOTM in IMAX 3D on WEdnesday @ 9pm but I am just getting a chance to post here. I've read all the comments. I am not going to give a detailed review (I need to see it again) but I would like to address somethings.

Opening montage of the race to the moon: excellent. Well placed current and archival footage.

Rosie's @$$ shot in the beginning. WHOA, MIke!!! I knew you had some moments but DAYUM! BTW, the interaction between Rosie and Shia-- not bad. Not terribly good but not bad. Some moments were better than others.

Dylan as the human antagonist. VERY good. Patrick Dempsey plays a great bad guy.

Laserbeak = brutal. Am I the only who was EXTREMELY pleased that Laserbeak not only spoke in this film but that he was as evil as he was always meant to be??

Soundwave = underused. The way he executed Que didn't surprise me from him (Soundwave is cold) but still it was very jarring. I knew he wasn't going to kill Bee from the TV spots (you can clearly see Bee in that shot where Prime flies in and levels the 'Cons).

Prime. GREAT, GREAT characterization. Still noble, still wise, still honorable but as said he was FED UP with everything. He'd been deceived and betrayed by humans, his mentor, A PRIME at that, had killed one of his oldest and best friends and weapons specialist. Not to mention, in the previous two movies he lost Jazz, possibly Chromia/Arcee, and if you read the prequel books, the twins and a host of other Autobots. He'd had enough. Their planet was dead. And he was sick and damn tired of Megs tyrnanny. That's why he went off the way he did at the end.

Bumblebee: AWESOME. Really, AWESOME.

Dreads: Did anyone notice how fast these guys were. They turned into Suburbans but in robot and beast mode, they QUICK.

Loved the banter between Ironhide and Sideswipe in the Mexican standoff. One of my favorite scenes.

The Wreckers: great characters, way underused. And not really addressed as the commandos they are. You get a hint of that when they rip the Decepticon drone to shreds. These guys are the Marines of the Autobots. When all else fails, they don't.

Sentinel Prime: okay, I was MAD shocked by his betrayal and I gasped out loud when he killed Ironhide. After the Dreads battle, I expected 'Hide to live.
On that note, some have said his death was not properly addressed by the Autobots. Well, if we remember the scene, Sentinel blast Ironhide in cold blood and then takes aim at Bee who keeps running and ducking for cover while returning fire. It isn't until Sentinel gets the rods and leaves that things start calming down. That's when Optimus arrives and if you look at his facial expression, it says everything. Ironhide's death, Sentinel's betrayal. The weight on his face is massive.

Rosie's best part was when she went to Megatron and played on his ego calling him Sentinel's b*tch. That was hilarious. Sentinel Prime would killed Optimus if ti weren't for Megs.

I agree the ending felt rushed and empty but in the context of the movie, I did get a sense of finality.

Props to Bay for using the Challenger footage for Starscream's destruction of the of the shuttle. Nice touch.

Chicago battle scene. Intense. Shockwave, underused. Driller-- GREAT. There's so much more but... I'm tired and sleepy. I guess I'll post later.

After ROTF I figured Mr. Bay would learn his lesson. I GUESSED WRONG.

My goodness. This movie had the potential to be so f**ing epic and he ruined it. Ruined its potential to be awesome. STILL WITH THE GAGS??? : rol: rol:head:head:lmao:wtf. They were a complete waste of time,... and just awkward all around. WTF??? Mr. Bay is awesome with action,... a genius. But the human acting,... MY GOD. Mr. Wang taking out his pistols...and acting like a damn fool... Sam's boss boxing Bee...the unnecessary comments said when there is high tension happening: "I'm so fired",.. "The Decepticons always get the good stuff"..NOT NECESSARY SIR.

The movie was pretty much not what I expected... honestly.
It was better.

I could gripe about a few small things, but really this was a good closure to Michaels Trilogy (unless he opens up to a 4th? :P)

The 3D was pretty amazing. It didnt have the shiny wow factor that Avatar had, but it was thorough and visually impressive. The jokes were raised from before... none of that toiletry humor was a bonus. The audience laughed at some of the greater jokes, like when Sam was freaking out after being thrown out of Bee then grabbed and placed back in, it was an all out lol moment. The build up was great. The plot twist had me unexpecting it. I thought the story was about as decent you could get for a giant robots movie. Simply great job... to hell with anyone who pisses and moans.

There are some more bits, but a think those are the more clear ones.


And now about the message:

The previous movie already have some neocon ideology on it, but this time we have two moments that I really think are extremely out of place.

First one is the "hunting Arabs" shot at the beginning. WTF? That was a complete rolleyes moment.

And then the "we need your leaders to see what happened without us to make them know we can't leave" line. WTF? So they let thousands of people die to show people must let them live in earth? I found that quite evil.

It's not the concept of the twist, but the particular sentence. Wouldn't it be better to replace that sentence with just a "Sorry I have to lie you and your people, but we are on inferiority against the cons and we needed the surprise factor" or something like that? It would have a really different meaning.


Then I think the ending was a bit abrupt. After the fight ended it would be nice to have 3-4 minutes of what happens next (If it where my movie it would have been about Sam, Carly, Lennox, Epps, ... helping the survivors of Chicago, making tent hospitals, Sam parents coming -no jokes, just reunion-, the bots helping finding people between the ruins, etc...). And Optimus speech would have been longer and a bit more optimist (yet sad about what happened to cybertron and his broters).

I don't think its a continuity issue. to me its on of two things, or both: either the run time was so long that those had to be cut, or they are saving them for an extended director's cut for blu ray (hope so!)

i watched the movie yesterday..
firstly,ı have to say.ı have been waiting for this movie for over A YEAR,i was countin days,i tried to see first trailers once they were unleashed like other fans in here,
that means;

1-cybertron&moon shots were good and mixing old scenes were ok.
2-after turned present time,problems are coming..
3-switching scenes are completely separated not like TF&ROTF.story was like,wants to tell something but couldnt as it was planned.
4-we all were informed that main villain will be SHOCKWAVE.ım laughin to that F... !!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao

The news about the main villain being shockwave was misinformation intended to keep Sentinels Betrayal a secret. i think it was perfect. i would have loved to see more shockwave but i totally agreed it was the right thing to do.

I've been reading these forums for years, now is a better time than any to join and add my two cents about this film.

If I could meet Michael Bay, I'd shake his hand and thank him. Thank him for reviving my childhood memories and bringing my hero's to the big screen.

I could never have envisioned such a fantastic trilogy, capturing the hearts and minds of most Transformers fans across the globe, I, for one, am touched that Bay put so much work into putting Transformers back on the map, and having the balls to do it 'His way'.............................................. ...........

Wow, where to start with DOTM....

Firstly, being a naysayer and firm believer that 3D is nothing but a 'gimmick' - I was completely blown away by the visual effects of this film. The 3D was absolutely amazing, I can honestly say, my cinema (Vue) did this film justice in its presentation. Bay has proven to me, that 3D, when done correctly, is a thing of beauty.

The plot - Again, Wow! As a G1 fan, I was stoked to see the story take some turns towards loosely following some of the cartoons, (The Ultimate Doom, Megatron's master plan) The film itself definitely had a darker tone to it, almost leaning on despair when Sentinel turned on the Autobots and it was revealed what his true intentions were. I could almost feel the frustration and anguish on Optimus' part, you could really sense he thought the autobots had their back against the wall, and had no other option but to fight back, with force, to finally rid the Earth of the menace, for good.

I though Sam had developed well as a character, and felt more connected with him this time around - I had absolutely no issues whatsoever with Carly, I thought she did an amazing job taking over from Mikaela, for all the hoopla surrounding this change, I really don't see what the fuss was about.

Optimus was flat out amazing again. His character has developed and shone so brightly over the three films, there's nothing to nit pick at. Seeing him with his trailer was definitely fan boy glee for me, coupled with his complete decimation of the Decepticon forces, including Shockwave, Prime was all about business as usual.

Sadly, Shockwave, for all the hype, was painfully under used, understandably, after the film began to unfold, we were aware he was not the main villain, as most had dubbed him. Great design, and he legitimately looked like he could really make some rumbles in the final battles (Although watching Prime take him out was brilliant!) but came up short.

Megatron was fantastic, loved this version of him perhaps more than his look in the previous two films. He had a primal, grimy, nasty feel to him - was probably the teeth! I felt Megs was sadly under used also, but, it fit in perfectly with the plot and was understandable that Megatron wanted to lay low whilst his plan unfurled and his troops did his bidding for him.

Sentinel....what can I say. Nimoy did him justice. What a character. The final battle with Optimus was amazing, Prime against Prime, quite easily one of the best scenes out of the three films for me.

Problem is, there's too much to really talk about. There's too many things I loved about this flick. I have a heavy heart knowing this will be the last Transformers film, with all these years of TF history through the cartoons and comics, I'm sure there are plenty more avenues to be explored, it's just a damn shame Bay won't be driving the bus for the next ride.

Mr Bay, I commend you for one of the greatest movies and trilogies ever made, and thank you dearly for the memories.

Holy Shit, i TOTALLY enjoyed this movie in cinema!!!!!!! Thank you Michael Bay, you created a great movie man!!!!! Action sequences are totally awesome!!! Of course, i wanted shockwave to get on some more, and not be killed by humans, but thas small thing, cuzthe action made up for it!!!! Story line wasn't that bad either, definitely better than part 2!
The 3D was mindblowing too, loved it!!! Saw this on opening day, the whole cinema was totally loving this movie!! I fully appreciated the CGI n this movie, it is unlike any other!!

Overall, this was one Sweeeeet bad a$$ movie, i am surely going to see this again in cinema!!! Loved this movie!!

From Trinidad and Tobago, we were fully entertained!!!!! Thank you!!!! it was epic!

Nelson, what happened with the duo of Brains & Wheelie? Cuz their ending in the movie was left quite open...The ship crashed, but it stayed intact.... so it's logical to think they survived... but then they aren't seen again...

I don't know if people have pointed out this already or not, but one case is clear.
The very cool highway scene wasn't that original after all. If you can't wait for the DOTM DVD / Blu-ray to come out. You can watch almost the same highway scene in the Island cause Michael ripped of his own movie.

I'm pretty sure he used that sequence due to the accident in the set which left a woman really badly injured, so the shooting couldn't be finished.

The chase is not like the one from the Island, just used some bits (and made up the situation to make those clips work).
