Me and all my brother have too. I know a lot of the movie fans are just that and its hard for them to understand where us G-1ers are coming from, at least with the name thing. I love the change in alt modes and colors and all that in the movie but the names are really rubbing a lot of earlier generation fans the wrong way.
They call me Ratchet Girl for a reason. Sometimes Skids girl.
Yeah, I'm a girl...SO FREAKING WHAT????
http://www.youtube.com/user/Taybrian1 I'm a Youtube star! (Not really, I just get bored.)
Que doesn't really bother me. Yes, it's sort of a weird name for a transformers but w/e?
"My story is of many thousands, and the world will not suffer if it ends too soon."
It originated from there (this whole Transformers thing) yes. But even the original materials didn't have any Japanese car in it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll cite a few examples from the original... Bumblebee was a VW Beetle, Jazz was a Porsche Sports car, Starscream was an American F-16...
I remember watching the original cartoons and didn't once remember seeing any Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru, Mazda, or Suzuki in any of them.
And FYI they did use a Japanese machine (in the Bayverse) already. One of the Autobot motorcycles in ROTF was a modified Suzuki sports bike.
???
I don't know if this was mentioned somewhere but here it goes.
Do you remember guys that a few months ago Nelson posted a picture with the blue Mercedes and the picture's name was "Q". Then everybody though that this is the robot's real name. and people asked Nelson if this is true. Then he was very persuasive that this is not true. And now suddenly it turns out that it's true. So either there was a misinformation campaign that he is not Q or now there is a misinformation campaign that he is Q. Either way there is a misinformation campaign going on and I think that that's great and is for the better of us fans.
Another thing - do you guys really think that a German car which robot mode looks exactly like Einstein (again German) will give a name of a British spy??? Just doesn't make sense, especially if Mercedes have something to say about it.
[off topic]
For example..
G1 Ironhide - Nissan Onebox Cherry Vanette
G1 Ratchet - Nissan Onebox Vanette Ambulance
G1 Prowl - Nissan Fairlady Z / Datsun 280ZX
G1 Bluestreak - Nissan Fairlady Z / Datsun 280ZX
G1 Smokescreen - Nissan Fairlady Z / Datsun 280ZX
G1 Skids - Honda City Turbo
Armada Red Alert - Nissan patrol rescue SUV
Alternator Optimus Prime - Nissan GT-R
Alternator Megatron - Nissan Fairlady Z / Z34
Alternator Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp - Mitsuoka Orochi
It would've been nice if some of them (at least one) were in the movie universe.

I think feels like it's more of a case of them using Q as a temporary name when that first image was leaked, with the HOPE that they would be able to name it Wheeljack, hoping that the manufacturer/license etc worked out. Now the reason for announcing these two names like this is because they never did manage to get the permission to name them how they wanted, and wanted to get the alternate names out there so that people were able to get their disappointment out of the way prior to the movie launch. So by the time the movie comes, we know the names will be different, so our expectations will be more realistic and our experience won't be as tarnished.
LOL, and that's me reading WAY too far into it. Sorry Nelson, I'm sure this isn't the case, but heck everyone else speculates I may as well too!?
I'm sure the real reason is that they just wanted these names. Same reason Bee isn't a VW. They needed to be in-line with today's society/culture etc.
My opinion... the name Que fits more than Wheeljack, based on the car. It just seems more sophisticated. I mean really? A Benz named Wheeljack?
totally agree with u buddy. names are absolute shockers....
i can live with that
Thx Nelson for the info and hard work putting up with all of us.
I see these names and as I was alive and kicking in G1 time frame, it bothers me a little but not enough not to see the movie. But I laugh as I apparently think so outside the box from the the people here on the forums ^.^ .. I heard about Dino.. and first thought was.. why the heck did they name it after Fred Flinstone's pet dinosaur? and then now Q.. and my first thought was what does John Delancie (as Q from star trek) have to do with anything transformers???
oh well.. going off to laugh at myself now.. LOL Thx again Nelson for the info
:head:wtf:lmao
"to punish and enslave..." :lmao
Sophisticated? Are you kidding me? So calling a Camero Bumblebee or A Truck Optimus Prime is any more sophisticated? It has nothing to do with what model or make the transformer is. Most of the Transformers names convey what they are all about. Bumblebee (even tho he is yellow) he is quick like a bee, hes one of the first to get into the fight just as a soldier bee should. Ironhide coveys that he is a brawler and has the iron hide of a tank, of a soldier. Ratchet says it all, he is a a fixer, a tool of sorts, the best tool to have on the battlefield, a medic. Optimus Prime, Optimus is a great Roman name. Enough said on that.
The name has more to do with the make and model of the vehicle than you think.. The names convey what they're about, but the type of car they are is also a part of that... Yes, Ironhide's name fits him, but he's also a BIG ASS FUKKIN' PICKUP TRUCK right? And isn't Ratchet a fukkin' Emergency vehicle?? OF COURSE HE IS. IT FITS. A Mercedes E550 is a top of the line luxury car. To me, the name Wheeljack does not fit that vehicle (ESPECIALLY with who he resembles in robot mode) and is more suited for a sports car.
benz named que, rari named dino!
"you lie to us, you've made a grave mistake" *optimus voice*
i know what you mean i too am a G1 fan since i first seen transformers in the 80's
i still think even with these names the film will be the best of the 3. however if it turns out that apart from the names they are mirage and wheeljack (traits, personality) it will spoil the film a bit for me
