Trailbreaker, I usually agree with your comments, but what about "Wheeljack" do you think the general audience wouldn't get? They got Bumblebee. They got Optimus Prime. They'll get Sentinel Prime. They got Jazz. They got Ironhide. They got Ratchet. They got Megatron. They got Starscream. They got Soundwave. They'll get Shockwave. They got Sideswipe. They got Arcee. There is nothing about names that people won't get. Gwyneth Paltrow named her kid "Apple." I don't get that, but I don't think there is any justification for saying, "Wheeljack? Im not saying this to be an ass or anything but you know, if Bay and or anyone involved with what car companies are involved and or what names are attached to them in the movies really wanted to give Homage to any cars and or to anyone in these movie, they really should have asked a Japanese car company or two to have a few of their nicer cars in the movies as TFs. That to me is an homage to everything TFs. Im sure the Japanese auto makers would not have a problem with a few of their vehicles being TFs in the movies as its origins are from there. Just my two cents.

The point wasn't to pay homage to everything Transformers. The point was to pay homage to things decidely not Transformers. Homage was paid to Transfomers, most critically in that it is a movie about Transformers.

So why the difference in names between the all the pre-movie material, novelizations, etc. And what's actually in the movie? If I read the novel of the movie, how am I to connect the charatcters in there with the characters on the screen if they're not named the same? It doesn't really make sense to call them Wheeljack and Mirage in the novel, and something different on screen.
