    Default Something about the 3d

I notice this at the Narnia movie and at the Pirates trailer.

When there are candle lights (and other fire lights), the light doest "dissipate" naturaly, instead you see this kind of rings, like you would have on a low res .PNG image.

    you see something like this:

And also, sometimes the objects look like 2D objects in a 3D world!!! Looks realy weird

Were you watching the movies using RealD? If yes, then it's because those glasses use circular polarization lenses...

I seriously hate 3D with a passion. I hate it on every imaginable level in all discovered and undiscovered points of space and time. I don't want to go to the movies and put on glasses, ever, for the rest of all time... ever. I'm sure Bay did a kicka$$ job, but it's so unbelievably gimmicky to me. I'm sure it helps ticket sales but I'm also sure that one of the reasons it started being used again is because people were pirating movies instead of going to theaters and 3D made having to go to the theatre instead of watching a pirated movie on a desktop a necessity again. Watching pirated movies on a computer = fail. Paying extra cash to wear glasses in a theatre for 4 minutes of 3D = fail. Good old fashioned big screens and new fangled IMAX = win. As always, just my opinions.

First off, you are wrong about RealD, Secondly find out if the movie was converted or actually Shot in 3D. If it was a conversion with I think Narnia was, some scenes may look like a cardboard cut out if they did not do it properly.

Pirates on the Other hand was shot in 3d.

While I'm not as angry with 3D as you are, I agree for the most part. I hate 3D do believe it is a gimmick. I appreciate what some people are trying to do with the technology but it doesn't add to my movie going experience. However, this is personal opinion and I know some that love 3D.

Exactly why I chose not to see Voyage of the Yawn Treader in 3D. Saw the trailer in 3D and and the 3D looked baaaaaad.

    I don't like the idea of post-processed 3D.
    Or fast action in 3D.

I watched Priest last night in 3D and the first half was good, but after you just get used to it and forget it's in 3D.

The best scenes are panoramic shots, slow motion scenes, scenes where there's barely any action/movement and scenes shot in 3D and not post-processed.

After an hour it loses its spark and looks less dynamically 3D.
The end credits are dynamically 3D... since it's all CG.

The thing with 3D is that your angles and frame composition have to be shot with 3D in mind. Anything else is just pure crap.

Question: is aliasing inherent to certain images in S3D? (which is what, I think, the OP is trying to point out in that flame example image)

    I will ask.

But from what I know, 3D cameras aren't all that with low light.

Yes, but not necessarily because of the camera. The human eye processes images more slowly when there is less light.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulfrich_effect

The Pulfrich effect has been used to create 3D based on one eye being darkened while the other is not. Because the eye that is darkened processes images at a different rate, objects that are moving laterally from left to right appear to be at a different depth than objects that are not moving. The wiki site explains it better.

So if both eyes are seeing things too dark, then it would mess up your eye's timing and reduce the depth that you are intended to see on screen.

First off, I agree about the people who watch the pirated movies as the reason why ticket prices are so high. I can understand some drama or chick flick, but not some action packed blockbuster that was meant to be seen in all it's glory on the big screen. I've got a cousin who just loves to watch pirated movies, even movies she's planned on seeing in the theater anyway, and I have to punch her to stop her from giving away the ending.

As for the 3D, it is definitely a gimmick, but as long as 2D is also allowed, I don't mind the experimentation. My first 3D movie was Avatar, which I thought was beautiful. I then seen Alice in Wonderland and recently Thor, both movies OK, but IMHO, not worthy of 3D prices.

But, I'll say this, I would love to have seen some true 3D shots in the first Transformers. Especially the scene where Ironhide transforms when dodging missiles from Devastator, and when Megatron and Prime were crashing through the building.

One other movie I would also have loved to see would have been Independence Day. The ships merging out of the clouds would have been epic.

It's not my fault the editor's got lazy. I'm going with what I saw in the movie.

You still got people fighting and arguing about who got out of the pool. Some say it was Prime, while me and others are going to lean towards Ironhide.

People are arguing who got out of the pool?

It's clear it's Ironhide as they show him transforming into the truck outside the house.

Prime crashed in the field and took the mode of the truck passing on the road.

I always thought it was prime in the pool. I remember seeing an animatic in the extras on the DVD. I think it showed prime jumping out of the yard and watching the truck drive by.
Plus he seemed alot taller than ironhide when he was hiding behind the trees. I may have to watch it again, but to me it seems like Ironhide transforms outside of a dealer.

I know, I know, you're talking to the choir here. Ironhide just looked huge because he was next to the little girl. The same trees he was hiding behind, you would see again behind the Topkick he transforms into. Plus, the movie adaptation novel pretty much cements it that it is Ironhide. I think it was the appearance that he was really tall, the epic music and the faceplate you see when he's climbing out of the pool, people mistaken for Prime. I think all the Autobots had some sort of protective faceplate on them in their protoforms.

Too bad man. Do you wear glasses? If not, maybe you should go and check your eyes at an optician and check your eye sight. That could be a reason.
I saw Pirates 4 last night with the DOTM 3D trailer before the movie and trust me when I say, you do NOT wanna see this in only 2D! As Michael Bay has said himself, this movie is supposed to be seen in 3D and after seeing the trailer I trust him 100%!!!
Seeing the movie in 2D is just a waste of money and time!
I saw Pirates 4 with Real 3D glasses and it has good 3D all the way through the whole movie.
But the DOTM 3D trailer before the movie just CRUSHED!! Pirates 4!!
Even when ILM has had a hand in Pirates 4 as well...
