Default Stephen King's The Dark Tower!

So with the "At the Mountains of Madness" being postponed indefinitely, the most anticipated movie for me in the future years (together with Prometheus and The Hobbit) is the adaptation of Stephen King's great novels - The Dark Tower.
This will be a huge project which will feature 3 movies and several TV seasons. I've heard from some friends of mine that they are putting a huge effort about the visuals of the movie which will be supported by a big budged.
These will be the movies to watch out in the next years. If done right this trilogy can be a milestone in the movie making. The fact that Ron Howard is directing and Goldsman is writer is really promising. King's books are outstanding and they are a must read for all sci - fi fans. Some consider them very strange but I love them. It'll be very interesting to see them on the big screen.

Here is an article about the project from last year:

Sounds fantastic, i've been a King fan all my life since i was a kid and even saw Silver Bullet, Pet Sematary, Sleepwalkers, Creepshow 2 and others in theaters as a kid as now i'm looking forward to this adaptation.

Looks like Javier Bardem is getting closer to the role of Roland Deschain. Although I'm not a big fan of his, I think he is a good match with the character.

    "The Dark Tower in trouble?"

Please not again. First Guilermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness and now this.

I really hope this project won't be dropped.

Well the ambitious project had been canceled. First At the Mountains of Madness and now this. All projects that I like are doomed.

Now they're cutting down the budget and the project will definitely happen. Great!

    A new sparkle of hope:

When Universal Pictures said no to making three feature films and two limited-run TV series from Stephen King’s mammoth post-apocalyptic Western The Dark Tower, the partners in the film all pledged they were going to find a way to get a movie made. Well, I hear that Warner Bros is now very close to a deal that will give Ron Howard the chance to direct at least the first feature, potentially with Javier Bardem starring as gunslinger Roland Deschain. And Akiva Goldsman (who wrote the script) is producing with Brian Grazer and the author.

    And even more hope.

    Ron Howard:

“Spent day today in a story session on…Dark Tower Terrific meeting w/ Akiva Goldsman & Erica Huggins No timetables but very positive.”
I really hope to see these genuine books on the big screen. It'll be hard but it's worth it. Hollywood needs something unconventional like this.

According to Deadline the destiny of this ambitious project (3 feature films + 2 TV seasons) will be clear in 2 weeks time. Right now they're getting a new script and Javier Bardem is no longer attached to the project. Instead they want to get Russell Crowe for the lead. I definitely prefer him. He fits the character just fine. I just don't know if he wants to invest so much of his time on 3 movies + 2 TV seasons. Fingers crossed for positive news in the next 2 weeks. If you haven't read the book you have to know that it's really something .... new.

So first Universal passed on the project and now Warner.
But now there's a new player wanting to get the rights. It's the company that financed Ted and Neill Blomkamp's new movie Elysium. I don't see how they could find so much money for such CG demanding trilogy and TV series but let's hope they pull it off. They just have to trust Stephen King on this. Here is his words about the project:

The Dark Tower, to me, and I’m not unbiased because I’m the writer on this thing, but to me it looks like gold on the ground waiting to be picked up.”
