Color does and doesn't matter. It depends on how major the character is or if their name has a connection with their color (i.e. Bumblebee, HotRod, and Silverbolt) They have iconic colors that are pretty much a must to have. Can you picture bumblebee being blue? Or SILVERbolt being green? So it really just depends.

This article that you refer to was a mess. The writers got it all wrong. Michael was talking about the SUVs (the Dreads) and said that he calls them Dreadbox and they are D-cons. He was not talking about the Ferrari.

Out of the two twin brothers, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, Sideswipe was more well known and seen quite a bit more in the cartoons so to me that would make Sideswipe a bit more iconic than his brother, yet Bay completely changed Sidwswipe's look and cooler. Therefor just because Sunstreaker was yellow, i dont feel him being called that would influence Bay enough to keep him yellow... besides, we already have BB in yellow and to have Sunny in yellow with as much as the red Ferrari is seen with BB on many many sets, would make for a whole lot of un-necessary yellow driving around.

As for this... in this article Bay was mis-quoted. He Was calling the DREADBOTS D-cons and the writer quoted Bay as calling the Ferrari DREADBOX. This is not his name. If you read this same article youll see that Bay was also quoted as saying the Dreadbot name is what he calls the SUVs on set but does not know what Hasbro will name the SUV toys.
