Default this is why i don't own a wii

CINCINNATI -- The Nintendo Wii might seem like a great way to get the family together and have some fun.

But one local doctor says it can be downright dangerous.

Complaints of muscle soreness and injuries from playing the game are piling up.So fast, there are Web sites out there showing injuries gamers have gotten -- a black eye, a bloody hand, a knot on the knee, and arms in slings.

"Those type of injuries you wouldn't expect from indoor play with a video game," Dr. Bret Bruder said. "The popularity of it, the explosion of this has been unexpected and amazing."

Bruder, an emergency department doctor, said injuries are adding up as more people get the game.

Unlike previous game systems, the Wii often demands considerable physical motion to play effectively.

And the sheer popularity and fun of the game system doesn’t help matters.

"You get caught up and you don't want to quit and take a break," Matt Vieth said

"Young children through middle-age people being overexuberant, coming in after hours and hours with their arms, shoulders and joints aching," Bruder said.

Zach Martin had problems with his arms after boxing a few rounds on the Wii.

"It kind of stresses out sometimes," he said.

Bruder said a little common sense goes a long way.

"A little bit of stretching if you're going to be doing some of the more vigorous activities like the golf and tennis,” he said. "Don’t play for hours and hours on end. Try to spread it out. We know it's fun, it's addictive, but keep it to a limit."

Every indoor physical activity could cause muscle soreness if people do it too much. Better go easy on it.

Not to mention this is one fat ass country!

Apparently exercise is just as likely to cause a heart attack as cholesterol!
The only thing worse than stupid people are stupid people who bother me...

agreed. agree with raven as well. sounds more like a problem with uncoordinated clutzes that need room to flail the Wii remote than it does with the Wii itself. and those that are getting tired from playing a video game are probably getting more exercise than they would just mashing buttons. (like hiding vegetables in a kid's mac n' cheese) i'm one that has had to eat my words, in that I thought the Wii was just a flash-in-the-pan fad. But if it gets people a little calorie burning in their entertainment, and is bringing people together to play that normally wouldn't as a bi-product, I'm all for it.

I played the wii at a friends house and I got sore arms the next day. I am definitely fit because I do parkour. I prefer the good old xbox ( I haven't got the xbox 360 yet)

Everyone underestimated the Wii. Only reason I thought it wouldn't work is because i felt nintendo had lost a lot of support during the gamecube era. Actually I wanted it to fail cause i had to sell my nintendo stock to support myself when i first moved to chicago. 60 shares man I would have been sitting pretty right now.
