Thread: Music Composer?

  1. #1

    Default Music Composer?

Does anybody want Steve Jablonsky to come back for the sequal?
Personally, I enjoyed his score, Michael chose the right guy for this movie, and I hope he comes back. Steve has been getting alot of praise for his score, so this will really jumpstart his career, much like Bates and what 300 did with him.

If Steve doesn't return, I wouldn't mind seeing Brain Tyler in the mix ( AVP2, John Rambo, War, and others ).

Music is very important for films.

The greatest. John Williams. I hope some day we'll have him in a Bay movie.

Yes, I would like Jablonsky back for the score, but if not possible, I agree with alexsm....John Williams would make a great score out of TF.

he does with any movie he composes the score for.

Agreed, Jablonsky has got to be first choice.

I rly enjoyed the 1st score. It was perfect. If he couldn't come back though, I would choose John Williams or Hans Zimmer.

    You are kidding, right?
John Williams wouldn't fit with a Bay movie at all.
The perfect fits are people like Zimmer and Jablonsky (basically the same). So yeah, obviously Steve is coming back for part 2 (and 3). His score for Transformers couldn't have been better.

[quote=alexsm;9322] I don't think Williams would compose Transformers. Although he may compose some fantastic scores for this film, I really don't think it is up his alley, and his franchise directors, well...aren't directing. I think it was proper to have Steve compose Transformers and let him be the next golden boy story, after Tyler Bates or Klaus Badelt. I Think the serise will be fine without the big name composers because these guys bring fresh and new ideas, and there future relies on these scores.

Yup. He finds his niche with Spielberg....who produces TF.

    See there's a possibility.

I don't get this "Williams wouldn't fit with Bay's style, and he should stick to Zimmer & his guys" - we haven't seen Bay work with other guys so how you tell? I would love to see him work with people like Williams, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore or James Newton Howard. I think it could be very interesting.

Transformers 2, however, belongs to Steve Jablonsky. He's already set up the themes so it would be a little distracting to see some other person come in and do his thing. I hope Jablonsky composes a lot of new stuff though, and not just re-use cues and themes from the first.

Oh wow, Bay with Danny Elfman....imagine the possibilities there!

Elfman in all honesty really and truly goes with Burton.

But Elfman and Bay would be interesting nonetheless.

I personally think jhon williams is to orcastra for the flick and they should stick to the original composer...I do have to admit I listened to some of the old scores of the cartoon movies and some weren't half bad when they were redone.I hated them as a kid to cheesy metal wannabee, but they sounded okay to me a few months back.maby revision them and add some of those.

Hello, this is my first post! I've been watching this form ever since i heard Transformers was in the making. i never really posted here but as a person involved in Music scoring, whenever i see that subject of music....i just have to involve me thoughts!

About Steve Jablonsky's score, I really liked Some parts of it. Specifically the music that was going when Optimus shows us his face for the first time while he Transformers. The other shot when Megatron gets hit by a missile for the first time from a jet fighter at the end of the movie. The choir chord change that was going on was really a bit Russian but awesome and beautiful! The rest of the score was really just a creative touch that was more artistic than serving in my opinion. The one scene that bothers me the most is the first transformers that attacked the Qatar base. That Random Brass theme was not serving the scene at all. and Could've been something a bit scary because he was destroying things out. The music was more heroic instead. The Autobot theme was very good but Its freaking The first introduction of Auto bots Transformers? i thought it should've used more brass in it and it does get to brass when the Autobots starts meeting Shia and the girl. but before that when they descend to earth its into this cello string theme that made it a bit soft. That cello music Would've worked on the Movie 300 instead actually.

I liked the score over all though. I did buy two songs from itunes.

You know what i think transformers needed? and this is really up to Mr Bay for all i know he could've demanded all those themes and music to his movie. He might like it super simple and likes to have sound effects and explosions and dialog(no brainer) to be on top more than the music regardless? it's all up to what the director likes.

Personally I thought David Arnold would've done an interesting take on it. If you guys heard his independence day music(especially the ending credit) or Stargate (Original film) score. he has that out of control huge sound that i think would've done transformers good in scale. Williams is not for Mr bay. Williams is complex in his music and it does need its space in the movie. You have to do things like Steven Spielberg who does take consideration of the music in his process probably as much as the sound effects and the dialog. Mr bay probably has his attention more into the sound effects and dialog.

Well thanks for reading and i look forward to posting more in here!

I wouldnt mind the first guy coming back, would be nice, he did great work. If the film was to take a darker side (for instance) Graeme Revell always did nice work. Dark, but nice. (The Crow for example)

    Steve Jablosnky nailed it

Another composer which knows Bay's style is Trevor Rabin.

They both got a kind of street edginess to them in their scores.

Hans Zimmer is good but I think his compositions are more for something more in the lines of something big, epic and patriotic.

But when you mention names like John Williams, Howard Shore or Danny Elfman, then unless you are just speculating, I know you are just randomly throwing out names without understanding Michael Bay's style.

Just because you like those artists doesn't mean it would work in Bay's films.

Listen to what Trevor Rabin does in Con Air and Gone in 60 Seconds and what Steve Jablosnky does in The Island. Its gritty and has a very hard edged feel that has a heightened sense of testosterone in it.

Danny Elfman?? What are we watching??? The first Michael Bay fantasy fairy tale?? Yeah...right.

    Yes, good choice.
Another person, if given a shot would be Kaveh Cohen. He is on of the two music composers for Groove Addicts- Full Tilt serise, enjoy his wonderful orchestrated scores very much. Also, the brilliant Michael Nielsen.

Lets not forget upcoming hot shot Paul Dinletir, who worked with X-ray Dog music company for numerous years and is responsible for that "secret" trailer piece in POTC 3 when Jack and Jones were fighting ontop of the sail.
Danny Elfman is more of a superhero themed guy, i.e Spiderman and Batman.

James Dooley??? Nope, but he is also one to watch for.

Steve Jobo did a fantastic job, on a blockbuster high budget motion picture? You know how much pressure must've been riding on him and his career? He pulled it off. I truly loved his Decepticons score, and much more. He did a great job with the choir and did alot of experimenting with them. Which a few composers don't do, they settle with on melody and mix it up with that...Klause Badelt* Cough *.

I personally invited Steve Jablonsky to come over to the forums and engage in discussion about his wonderful score, hopefully he'll accept the invite.
