So... we all know that Discovery will launch on Nov 1st and Bay is now or should be now shooting in other locations around the world. Who all here thinks like I do and thinks Bay should make a trip back to Florida on the 1st and get a real launch of the Discovery to have in the movie? It would not only look bad ass in the movie but its history that would lend itself well to the plot of the movie as its the last launch for this program.

If the shuttle will get a regular launch in TF3 (NASA way) then they definitely need to come back on Nov. 1st to shoot there. It'll save them some money on CGI.
We know for sure that they are not going back there so maybe the role of the shuttle is different (not just a regular launch).
And by the way, I don't believe they are doing international filming now. We should have heard something (some airport clips, casting calls etc.). I think the movie is unofficially in post production. I hope I'm wrong. I would love to see some real action in Russia as it was announced a few months ago.

I think M.B woulnt miss it because he knows every second of CGI in the movie costs him around $100.000 something like that... anyways, he's gonna be there ofcourse but not next to the normal person watching the launch.

Shuttle launch is a rare occasion. Michael Bay will be there.

Not neccissarily. There is LOTS of stock footage of the shuttles launching. . . NASA can get him a ton of other visuals if needed. And as someone else said, thats what second units are for.

I agree and it's very possible that Bay would do that.

im pretty sure he'll use stock footage, i mean theres alot of footage already of the shuttle launch. The money saved doing that can be used towards the CG ^^

The problem with shooting a shuttle launch is that you have to stand back quite a distance away from it while it launches...like a mile...or two...or something like that. With that in mind I can't see them getting any good shots from such a distance.

Then again, if they can film the effing Great Pyramid, then they can film a shuttle launch as well.

They did film the launch close up for Armageddon; even had cameras on the launch tower. From what I remember they had to do quite a bit to make sure the cameras were seriously locked down on the launch pad.

Your should really listen to the Director's & Director of Photography's commentaries on the Armageddon Criterion DVD.

Filming the shuttle was the easy part on Armageddon.

Oh. Damn, my lack of pre-TF Bay knowledge is coming back to haunt me.

So yeah! Why not film the shuttle blasting off?! I mean, if it's called for in the script that is.

I still think it would be cool to have the real blastoff in the movie if Bay plans on having the Shuttle in the movie as far as Space scenes. And well... Nelson neither confirmed or said it wouldnt happen so lets hope it does.

They MUST do it! This will be their only chance to film the launch of a space shuttle. And in 3D too!
