That would be my order too there ladiesman!

Speaking of scores, I was watching Fox and Friends this morning (hey, it was on) and they were doing a highlight of the important sports stories of 2007. You know what music they were playing the video to?

Jablonsky's Transformers score!! It was quite lovely.

The Rock score is easily the best, that seems obvious to me. It's still used in trailers and i think i've heard marching bands perform it at college football games. Though Zimmer pretty re-did the Crimson Tide score and tweaked it up a lil and used it for the Rock, but i can't honestly say i even recall the other scores, i can hum the entire Rock score and have been able to since the day the film opened.

    But what's the most "quoted"?

I've heard snippets of The Island (the theme used at the end when the clones are climbing out of the Merrick facility) used in a variety of movie trailers and most recently, in an interstitial on PBS (!).

Armageddon score is awesome! It's a shame Trevor Rabin hasn't really done a decent score since then. The Bad Boys 2 score was appalling!

Transformers was ok, can't really see what the fuss is about. The Island was good apart from all the cliched techno sounds. The Rock was wicked, Bad Boys was sweet!
I've always defended Michael Bay against attacks that his films are full of stupid explosions, girls in underwear and mindless characters... but then he made Transformers 2 and I conceded...

While almost all the scores of Bay movies are awesome (except BB, still good though), by far the best is obviously Armageddon. It's not just the best "Bay score", but one of the best scores ever. The Rock comes close.

The Island followed by Transformers, for me.

Transformers then The Island have the best scores.

    Let's talk about them...

Bad Boys: very good score, Mancina's main theme is absolutely amazing. Dramatic themes are not so good as comedy themes. 7/10

The Rock: On of the Greatest all time. Awesome. 9/10

Armageddon: Freakin great. Great, dramatic, epic, fast and long, very long... pure adrenaline rush. Love/soft themes are also great. Lot's of great music. Lacks of sound quality. 8/10

Pearl Harbor: Beautiful music. The CD edition is ridicoulously short (as happened in Armageddon). Some of the best Zimmer's themes are here. A 9/10 score.

Bad Boys 2: Works fine in the movie but it's quite boring to hear it apart from it. 4/10

The Island: Some great themes, some awful themes. Jablonsky's good themes are amazing, but the others are pure noise. 6/10

Transformers: Jablonsky copies lots of soundtracks. Here we have fragments of Armageddon, Batman Begins, Terminator, King Arthur... But really ¿who cares? Maybe the most spectacular and addictive score i've ever heard. 9/10

Hmm, good post, but I find it hard to answer. I love a lot of movie scores, and own a LOT of them. But come to Michael Bay films and I seriously can't remember any. When I watch his films there is so much shit happening and I'm TOTALLY engrossed in the movie I honestly don't notice.

Michael Bay's movies just need music cues... I seem to recall Nelson saying something like that.

Yknow, i agree, except that The Rock's score is the one film score i can still listen to to this day as though it's just it's own entity. I mean that soundtrack just gives me chills. But you're right. I don't remember ANY of the other scores, from Bad Boys 1 to Trans, i just don't remember any of the melodies. I just remember leaving the theatre after Rock and humming the theme.

I don't really buy many scores anymore, well i'm lying. I haven't bought any in a LONG time, but recently i bought Batman Returns & Begins, T2, and i'm always looking for Aliens. I just don't find myself that involved in score-cd's anymore. Can we all agree that Braveheart is the GREATEST OST <orginial s'track> of all time? Oh speaking of, i also got the Last of the Mohicans OST recently. Hehehe, but i swear not since HS <i graduated in 00> have i gotten so many OST's.

    Okay, I'm frustrated.

I've searched for the orchestral score to The Rock in iTunes and cannot find it!

I think Transformers score is the best, but the Island is right behind it.

Just a little side note. I really used to like Hans Zimmer, but listen to The Rock and the Pirates of the Carribean. After closely listening to both soundtracks I lost a liking for his music because its all very much the same thing. Sorry Hans!

The same could be said for every composer. That's called style.

I understand that style in any type of music can determine the general sound created. But to me Hans sounds very much the same over and over. Really if you don't believe me sit down and watch both movies and you will see what I mean. John Williams has his own style too but if you play the theme from Star Wars versus the theme from E.T. you can tell the immediate difference. With Hans if you threw Pirates and The Rock at me and didn't tell me which one is which I would have a much harder time figuring it out. Thats when I think it has less to do with style and more to do with originality.

Pirates sounds way more like the battle piece from Gladiator than it does anything from The Rock. One have to keep in mind that the composer only gives the filmmakers what they want. The producer in that case was Jerry Bruckheimer. I doubt Jerry is one who sais "Oh, compose whatever you want Hans" - when Hans did Crimson Tide there was apparently big discussions over Hans using a male choir for example. So when Bruckheimer hires Hans he obviously wants a big, bombastic action score. Hans has scored a lot of movies and how versatile and original can one be with composing that big, bombastic action theme. Of course you'll start borrowing from your back catalogue. Any composer does that.

Yes, but you agree with me that they sound the same!? And thats why I don't like him as much anymore. I understand that the composer doesn't have complete control, but I personnally have more respect for the composers who can do that better. I don't hate him I just don't like him as much as I used to.
