I think both Transformers and Avatar are the best Sci-fi action movies on the market, it's amazing that some people called Cameron a genius and Bay a hack. Besides Cameron is working on his live-action adaptation of Battle Angel Alita as well as Avatar 2 & 3 at the same time. But they are different movies you know.
Someone made a very convincing argument for why "Aliens" and "Avatar" are the same movie.
Seriously though, this subject again? There are a lot of things synonymous with Transformers, and Bay has made a couple of good, exciting TF movies, and I look forward to the 3rd. But if he has, and he has said so, that he has other projects he really wants to do, and if he wants to explore other creative endeavors, than he has every right to do. I don't like the wording that's implied with him "abandoning" Transformers- he's done his service, he's done it well, he worked very hard, and he owes it nothing. If he wants to do non-TF stuff, that's great! If he decides he wants to do more TF movies, as long as he doesn't get burnt out- he's proven he can do a good job. But criticizing him for wanting to further exercise his creative muscles is ridiculous and not anyone's place.

I think Michael Bay should be given a lot of credit for the success of both TF1 and TF2. Studios companies know that sequels after sequel generally don't do well. There is a point where a series just runs out of steam. It is not fair to compare Avator to TF nor to Star Wars. We must remember that TF is based on already existing cartoons and comics, similiar to Spider Man. TF has surpassed all financial expectations. I think it means a lot when a studio approaches MB and basically begs him to make a third installment and what should be considered a short window. Remember he's spent probably the last 4-5 years dedicated to TF, the man at least deserves a break.
Director Michael Bay did say that they would do a Transformers 4 if the public welcome the previous movies. Transformers 3 started to filming heavily as we speaking and as we all know . But I can bet that they're already planning the movie Transformers 4 and even 5 , 6 . It does make financial sense for the studios after all : the Transformers movie franchise is like a goose laying golden eggs! Besides the public does not want the Transformers movies to come to an end, nope, we all want more and more but with quality storyline 3D or NOT 3D ! So we can be pretty sure that Transformers 4 will be developed sooner or later.
But when can we expect the movie Transformers to be released? We have to keep in mind that Director Michael Bay wanted to have a break following Revenge of the Fallen, but that he had to cancel his plan because the studios were pushing for Transformers 3 to be released in 2011. I guess he won't agree to renounce to his break following the third movie. Which probably means that we will have to wait longer... But considering that the studios would want badly to see a new Transformers sequel, we can fairly bet that Transformers 4 would be released no later than 2014.
I think we'll have more information about the movie Transformers 4 next year from Bay when the third film will hit theaters and the tickets spoken in millions or Billion ))) .
This was a synoptic story from people who was there and heard Bay told that TF4 will happens if we support TF3 eventually and we will do !!!
Do we ??? ))))) !!!!
I heard...and this is NOT something I know..that Hasbro and (Bay?) signed up for 2 more movies after this one. But as said...I don't know if it's true so don't cheer yet.
