Not a good idea to post your schedule on a public forum. You never know who is crazy out there.

Good on you for taking a transition course. It's hard out there for a freshman. I dealt with a lot of kids in my building that were practically traumatized by it.

What? Any college could have those classes. It looks anonymous to me.

Today was...oh boy, today was interesting. I'm not sure what to think about it. I'll probably have loads of fun but right now I feel alienated without seeing all of my friends I practically grew up with in school.

Today's lesson: Never store important documents in a pocket folder separate from your binder. You may just inadvertently loose it. But thanks to the power of a good samaritan professor and the school email server, I got it back. I was almost in a panic today.

Okay guys, I'm about to throw a major curve ball here...

So today went better, but tonight...not so much. In fact, I freakin' cried my eyes out. If you don't think it's possible for one to change their mind about everything in one night...think again. Plattsburgh finally told me who I am. I'm a highly introverted country boy who loves the great outdoors and prefers to keep to himself. This basically stands against everything SUNY Plattsburgh is about. It's a city college with a diverse and cosmopolitan and ultra-social lifestyle and quite frankly...I don't feel comfortable at all. I hardly see anybody I know there too, save for like 4 kids from school, but they're not really close friends. I feel so intimidated by all of these strangers. Also, I don't think this major is really what I want. I just wanna stay here in the Adirondacks. I'm too attached to this place. I know it sounds disappointing because I've been going around saying how I wanna become this big filmmaker and what not. But seriously, if I can't take such an overwhelming environment like Plattsburgh, then how am I going to survive in the film industry?

With that in mind, I'm going to find a way tomorrow to transfer over to the other local college around here, Clinton Community. They are part of the SUNY system Plattsburgh is, but it's a very different environment. It's a junior college that offers only associates degrees. But there's this one degree in particular that interests me. It's a wind energy and turbine technology degree. What I find so appealing about this is that I like to get my hands dirty, and love this kind of technology. Plus there are a lot of cool courses associated with it. Also, we have brand spankin' new wind farms operating up here, so I might be able to find a well paying local job one day. Plus, I'll be out in the field in the nice countryside.

Another thing about Clinton is the fact that like 80% of my high school senior classmates are currently attending this college, and most of my close friends are there. So yeah, it would be a more comfortable environment. Plus, it's out of town, and sits on top of a hill overlooking Lake Champlain, so it's also pretty up there!

So yeah, there you have it. I had a major revelation today and now I'm just going to stick to my roots. I'm just too attached to my home region. I guess I learned something from college after all, who I really am.

Trail, I would take some time to think about things. You have been there what 3 days or so? And yes it is a very major change. And that may make it a bot (or a lot) uncomfortable, even to the point of being panic inducing. So, take a moment to step back and think long term. You will adjust and make new friends, you will become used to the different environment. My vet would say it just needs "tincture of time." Give it a semester at least. Classes transfer, and many things can transfer to GE credits.

No, the big move begins TOMORROW. Mom and I already decided this and we're going to get it done while there's still time. It's doable, and I could probably be taking classes in Clinton by next week if it works out. I went too far ahead of myself with Plattsburgh.

Practice. I wanted to be a marine biologist, totally fucking failed at chemistry, gave up, switched over to English (all Washington Irving's fault), got two degrees in English, one focused on how technology has altered literacy and the other a Masters in creative writing and and in the middle I went to culinary school and became a pastry chef. Now, I work in industrial security in the finance department of a tech company. The point being: nothing ever works out the way you think it will and there is nothing wrong with that.

You're making choices for yourself and that's a great thing. And honestly, I spent 3 years in junior college and have nothing but good things to say about it. (I have a lot of personal life pressures on me that cause me to bounce around a lot, yeah) Some of the best instructors I ever had were at my local community college which is, today, double the size and quite an institution! In California, where I live, there's an entire system designed to move people from community to UC and Cal state schools so you may have every opportunity to transfer back to the big campus and pursure your big dream in the future. (I'm studying marine biology for my novel, volunteered in an aquarium for a while and am getting ready for SCUBA training! at 29!)

There's no shame in taking small, thoughful steps and I wish you the very best.

I went to Clinton's website and they have a map of the college. It's just three large buildings! One is the main building which is is five floors of everything including classrooms (it used to be a big hotel back in the old days), one is the science and technology building with all the workshops and labs and stuff, and the other is the athletic department. It doesn't get any more simple than that and it greatly relieves myself of constant walking back and fourth around a sprawling campus.

What I feel bad about right now is the fact that I basically shunned this college when I was applying for colleges last year. I thought, "oh, well they don't have BA's here, and they sorta take anybody so it must not be for 'teh smart kidz.'" I used to think community colleges weren't up there with my "standards." What a crazy concept that was. Now, it may be the best college for me. I mean, it's simple, it's local, some of my best friends are attending it as we speak, and my gosh what a great setup!

I just think I should step back a few notches from Plattsburgh because I'm still not ready to face the big world yet. I ought to start out slow.

I think the uncomfortable feeling might be only temporary and you'll be able to get used to the new environment soon..

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with whatever you'll choose to do.

And did I mention that community college is massively MASSIVELY cheaper than university? You're not that kid who fucked away his first year of colllege drinking and being miserable and blowing $30 thousand dollars of his parents money. Good on you!

SUNY colleges aren't that expensive. With out room and board and meal plans your looking at about 6500 a yr. With them its about 16K a year.

Trails if your a local to Plattsburg it really doesn't matter which one you go to especially if you commute to campus. You'd still be able to see your friends often and you would make NEW friends in your classes. Think about it.
If it's a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on.

Yes, but I want to be able to see my friends in school like I always have. I'm just not ready to face the big big world yet. Clinton, which is pretty much one big building, reminds me a lot of high school, so I think it's a great transition school. Plus it's just a nice spot.

And yeah, I know that both colleges are local, but it's Plattsburgh itself I am incompatible with. They're two completely different worlds.
