Looks like the villain will be indeed The Mandarin but he won't be played by an Asian actor because of the good relationship between USA and China. : rol Probably it will be played by Sir Ben Kingsley.

Nice find. Thanks for the article!

I don't mind the Mandarin not being Chinese or Asian. I'm more bothered by the fact that James Rhodes (War Machine) was mentioned among those that will return in IM3 while not making at least a minute appearance in The Avengers movie. I mean, War Machine is/was part of the Avengers in the comic books right??

And now another twist - the villain will be Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian and the Mandarin will be more like a side plot.

    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=90813

And there is another armored character confirmed for the movie - Iron Patriot. Plenty of cyborgs - exactly what most of the people were complaining about in Iron Man 2.
Robots, cyborgs, synthetics..... perfect for me.

Thumbs up Re: Iron Man 3

    Interesting news!!

Though it has to be noted that there were "2" Iron Patriots in the Marvel Universe. One is the villain (Norman Osborne) which the article talked about, and the other was an "alternate reality" hero Marvel experimented with (which was basically an amalgam of Captain America and Iron Man). In fact the hero version had a toy which came out several years before the Iron Patriot villain was introduced.

The 2 Iron Patriots had notable differences. The Iron Patriot villain (that was Norman Osborne) was basically RED just like Iron Man, with Blue undertones. And he had the same weapons as Iron Man. No more and no less.
The Iron Patriot hero on the other hand was primarily BLUE, with Red undertones instead (so it's the opposite). And he had Captain America's shield as a weapon alongside his Iron Man weaponries.

If you look at the article again you can see the two Iron Patriots images posted are not the same. The one shown from the comics is the "villain," while the costume from the set is that of the "hero" variant. It is clear that whoever wrote that article was not very knowlegeable of the 2 Iron Patriots.

Contrary to what most think, I don't think this Iron Patriot that will be in the movie is a villain. And after Captain America and Iron Man's clash in the Avengers movie, I think Marvel just pulled something out of the bag again -- making an amalgamation of Cap and Iron Man (just like they experimented before, only this time they'be brought it into the Movieverse).

^ Sounds very interesting and really makes sense. We have to wait and see.

By the way Marvel officially announced that the movie is in production now. First photo from set:

If this question is for me:
On the picture the first four armors are from Iron Man (Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and Mark IV). The next two from Iron Man 2 (Mark V and Mark VI). And the last one is from The Avengers (Mark VII). So I can't wait for his new armor in Iron Man 3 (Mark VIII). Maybe there will be more than one.

    Possible trailer description:

It opens with a voice over of Tony Stark talking about how the events of New York (I’m assuming the Avenger Movie) changed him, and how he’s just not “into it” anymore. First scene is Iron Man with battle damage, laying down amid rubble and taking of his faceplate to show a bleeding Stark. Scenes of him arguing with Pepper Potts in the armory (cool shots of alternative Iron Man suits including the red white and blue one we’ve seen on your site already), press conferences, Tony looking solemn, Tony talking with someone who looks like a psychiatrist, and a short shot of Don Cheadle in military uniform (no War Machine in the preview). Also one scene of who I presume is the Mandarin, forcefully landing and cracking the ground. However, it looked like a silver Iron Man. I was unable to tell in the brief view who it was (maybe due to unfinished CGI). We then get a voice over from Ben Kingsley, talking about how there there are no heroes and how he will teach everyone, especially Stark, a lesson. This is over scenes of the alternative Suits getting blown up, Stark going into surgery, and a fleet of helicopters launching missiles which blow Stark’s home up and apart (the CGI looked nearly finished) and sending Stark and Pepper into the sea below. Then a close up of Kingsley with no helmet in the Mandarin armor.
It ends with Iron man underwater swimming towards what looks like his “heart reactor thing”. Then the logo, then stark walking in the snow dragging a large bag, then the logo again.
All and all, a somber trailer, dark and humorless, which seemed more in tone with The Dark Knight Rises than with any of the other Iron Man movies or the Avengers.

Robert Downey Jr. injured his ankle doing a stunt when he was filming Iron Man 3.
Aaah, that got to hurt. Now the production is on hold till Downey Jr. has made a full recovery from his injuries.

    SPOILERS

The Extremis-enhanced bad guys under direction of Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin villain are going to be too much for Tony to handle on his own, so he thinks ahead, thinks big and has a plan. Tony’s about to go out and fight some bad guys when he mentions the Mark XLVII to Pepper Potts. Pepper asks what happened to the other forty and Tony just smiles.
From the cockpit of Mark XLVII Tony is able to control multiple armors in battle. We over here at LR have been vaguely aware of an action scene where Tony was going to control multiple Iron Man suits (presumably they look similar to distract his enemies as to the location of kill-able Iron Man Prime), but the number 40 seems…awesome. 40 Iron Men.

    SPOILERS

    Sounds great!

I like the look of the new Mark XLVII but the Iron Patriot looks too much like Captain America. He's too colorful. I hope the rumor that Iron Patriot is actually War Machine is not true. War Machine looked 100 times better.

i had thought of that. i mean, if the armour increases the natural strength of its user, why not just make one for every avenger. the thing is, Cap America is like 12 inches taller that Tony Stark, so in armour, he would be taller than ironman, not the same size.

I haven't seen Captain America yet or The Evengers but i will when i get the chance though.
I don't think this is Cap. America he has the Airforce written all over it and that big star on his chest is like the star you put on a tank.

Yep, Norman Osborne took the armor and became Iron Patriot. I more think of the Iron Patriot as only the suit. Whoever takes this suit from Tony Stark in Iron Man 3 will become the Iron Patriot. The rumors so far are that this is Rhodey Rhodes.

P.S. And still let's not forget that although Spiderman is Marvel property, the movies aren't. So the continuity might be different.

On-set images of filming for the 2013 film Iron Man 3 shows actor James Badge Dale, as Eric Savin, wearing a battlesuit similar to the Iron Patriot armour

    ^^ Any truth to that?

Something to note: The Oscorp Tower WAS going to be in The Avengers, both studios wanted it to appear in NY's skyline. But when the Tower's design was finished, the NY digital skyline was finished and couldn't be added. So, they're in the same universe's continuity thingy.

If they could just lend Spider-man's right for one Avengers film, they'd gained everything spent in all four Spidey films
