That people want all these characters to be in the film and everyone of them thinks each character is deserving of a meaty part. In all honesty there were only four transformers that had real roles in the cartoon and that was Prime megatron, Starscream, and bumblebee. Jazz, Ratchet and soundwave came in second to that group. Shockwave is the only really notable Decepticon after that. Mirage, Hound and the dinobots are the last autobots in my opinion who had developed characters. Explain to me what would make this next movie good if all of them were in it. What to all of you would be the perfect scenario? how would the transformers behave within their factions? What on earth could make this be a good transformers story? action and good cgi is a given i am talking purely character and story here

I'm with you there on this one. If you were to bring in all these characters
into the movie it would destroy it. It would turn the film more into the G1 cartoon sereis.

It would make way to many side storys and more than likely destory the story line. But if you bring in one or two new Autobots or Decepticon each side just to replace the one's that got destroyed in the first TF movie.

I belive that you should stick with the main characters.

I think the only other Autobot that had any real roles in the cartoon was HOTROD in the TF cartoon movie and into sires 3 & 4 of the cartoon.
I know thay touched a story line with Jetfire and starscream but realy there is not much of a storyline outside the main characters.

    Certainly, (Screen) time is short.
All characters could be in if it were TV serial with several seasons, but this is a film.
I know everyone hopes to see their favorite character on screen wholeheartedly but it seems to be difficult to bring so many characters in it.

Im not sure if any of us want ALL of the transformers in the film do we..?

We are just discussing concepts 99.9% of the time lol. You are right about the main robots..

IT wouldnt make the movie great if they were all in it - exept for the fact that it would make us relive the old days, thats it. in my opinion, uve jus taken our posts the wrong way lol.

Too many robots may be a problem yes. I believe most of the users know that there is only place for a few robots in the movie. reading the posts here in the forum gives me the idea that people are fighting for the right of their own favourite robot to make an appearance in the movie.

I think the the thing to keep in mind is the cost of CGI for the film... ILM & DD are not cheap.

I too want "more" robots onscreen but it will spiral out of hand and cost too much $$ like Spider-Man 3, which I thought was terrible and the CGI was worse than the first 2 films...!

For me personally I was very pleased with the Transformers, except that they blinked...? If the second film carried on in the same way I would be happy. Let's face it I have never seen a film where convincing robots fight each other! (Except T2: Judgement Day but they are robots yes, but were in makeup and not really "true" robots in a purist form...)

You don't have to develop all the characters, just make them recognizable. short clips of an autobot stopping an armed robbery in NewYork, and another winning a street race would be more than ample.......The rest of the crew could be cast for a huge battle. Let's face it, America's finest did a lot of damage to only a handful of decepticon's. Humans alone could have dealt with the cons if not for the allspark quest.

The cons need to present more of a challenge that is worldwide

Its completely redundant to create a character and have them do nothing, coughcoughJazzcoughcough. Develop a few characters in greater detail to get more of a background/understanding of each personality would be better I think. But then again, the art of creating characters audiences love has died

I felt that the first one dealt more with the human characters more than the Transformers. And i hope now that those characters have been introduced, they will go further into the history of the Transformers (eg the roles they had before the war, relationships between them etc).

Re watching the G1 cartoons, i see that most of them had interesting personalities. Though yes most of them didnt have a fleshed out background. However i hope Bay recreates them all based on their personalities.

Wanting to see characters with different attitudes and behaviors is all i'm interested as far as being a fan of the movie made by Michael Bay.Of course Barricade the mustang was not in the G-1 series.I loved this character, even though he had a short life in the movie.Figure out why and you are officially a gum shoe.....Although as a fan,of the G-1 series,I feel there is always going to be a link between the G-1 series and the NAME transformers. For me.All respect is given to the man for his outstanding work on the movie.I think that any one else woulda probably made a cartoonish movie.Resembling the G-1 series. He did a great job.I think when I suggest for other characters,OLD G-1 names come to mind when i see new vehicles.Kinda like looking at a Lambo......what name would you give this character? If a Lambo were in the movie.I think there is kinda a childhood instinct to name them after G-1 series transformers.I could care less about all the original characters being there. Most of them bore me......Especially the laser gun. What is he goin' to do?Remove unwanted facial hair? Tell the story.Keep doin' what you guys do best and don't look back.!!!As a matter of fact,i'm gonna watch TRANSFORMERS now!!

I think they could do a great movie using only Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Starscream. A small cast means more screen time, more lines, more development, better one-on-one combat.

There should be more characters then just these four. Of course, it could work, if they give a lot of screen time to humans. but i hope it's the other way around in the next movie. less human to human or human to robot relations, and more autobot to autobot, decepticon to decepticon and autobot to decepticon action

    I totally agree!

But they needed to have more humans int he first movie, With the whole "introduction" to the robots, and to set the story, and of coruse the human-robot relationships formed at the end.

I also liked the way they purposely cut some of the decepticon scenes out to keep them more Mysterious, but with the sequel they can now have more robot-to-robot, which would be totally RAD!

I like the Old names,But would like to see them on new vehicles. As far as attitudes go,make them your own and new.As a fan of the movie,I think thats what worked out with the movie. The 80's were the 80's.If you woulda did the 80's movie again,It would have been a long boring movie for the ones who remember the cartoon movie. It would have been interesting to see the movie re-done.Just boring after the first few scenes.Trust me. My son has the movie and by the time the cartoon gets to the fishing scene...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...then..** what? ***Huh?...You got the touch!...Dun,dunnnn,....dunnnn,dun ,dun! You got the powerrrrr!........Yeah!! I wake-up.Keep the Bay movies his own.Its great.I didn't know what to expect throughout the movie.I hadn't read the book and still haven't.I need too though. But the new ideas work better!!please dont listen to anyone about the G-1 series....If i have to dress like Marty McFly again I'm gonna kill myself.Bring back the flock of seagulls haircut though, and i'm in.

LMAO....Marty McFly...thank God Bay didn't have the power to choose Michael J. Fox as the voice of Bumblebee.

Well first off jazz, was ripped in half and bay could use a replacement character there. Secondly I agree about mirage hound and dinobots being...lol,I'm mistaken go to utube jazz, hound and cliffjumper are in episode 1. thirdly whoever said bays movie was based soley on g1 cartoon, I Heard he was seriously considering putting arcee,in tf 1. Hasbro even made a toy of her. a pink ninja crotchrocket.but alot of you male testostrone driven fanboys on this forum and don murphies made a big stink about a female autobot so he removed her from the final version of script. fourthly,If bay is also taking in consideration of the 80's movie. the dinos were fully developed and were devoped fully in g1 cartoon.

micheal j fox voice woul fit bee's. did you ever watch the cartoon man. and their was alotta itroductions and relationships in tf1,part 2 I say make it just as long or longer push for 4 hrs mike set a new bar for the industy.just make it exciting and no one will notice or care.

I agree with the comment you made about arcee. In fact I started my own thread on arcee and it got hijacked by the jacked up testosterone driven nuts. I mean for f#@k sake she was going to be a motorbike and then they had to go and throw transformers having sex etc into their posts. You have probably read it already by now rad so you know what I am talking about.

As far as what TF's should or shouldn't get screen time is really silly. Think about tf1 for a minute here....which TF did we all see first? Blackout. Who had the most screen time of any of the TF's? Bubblebee. He also didn't speak until the end. So Bay kept us guessing until the end. He also kept the script simple so we could all understand what was going on. If he had more dialect between the robots it would have confused the plot and most of us would have been lost in what they were saying rather than concentrating on what they are doing.

Let us imagine if Peter Jackson did TF, it would take an hour just for one character intro...lol. If PJ had done this film everyone would have walked out in the 2nd hour. Now you add into that mix 12 or so transformers and you have a big puddle of god-knows-what. I think that the director and his team would go through the process of choosing who is going to be in the film and also who is going to say what and when.

Take LOTR for example I got that confused at one point because there were that many location changes, for example they would go from the hobbits, to Gandalf then to Aragorn, Legolas etc that I was sitting there thinking ok so what does Frodo do again? Oh that's right he is the ring bearer, for a minute I thought he was Gimli.

PJ should stick to Middle Earth. LOL

And yes, I agree with the different locations making it confusing. Same with the books. I got so confused I had to go back and re-read some parts.

But, with the sequel, we don't need as much intro time. That's what makes sequels better (in most cases).

I don't remember where I read it but the idea about arcee had something to do with the quintisons making female robots to sell to other planets that weren't soley male driven society.

When I suggested a movie with only four TFs, I certainly didn't mean to suggest more human screen time! In the first movie, I'm pretty sure we didn't see any robot-robot conversations last more than 15 seconds. I want to see long dramatic robot conversations and long dynamic robot duels. As few flesh piles as possible. Bumblebee would be comedic. Starscream would be vicious. Prime and Megatron would be epic. Toss in Shia for a few extra laughs and Megan for her, you know, other assets, and you've got a perfect movie.

long time no talk to friend.I couldn't agree more with your concept...to an extent, lol.I thought for the most part bay did a decent job on character development; considering he had to introduce the audience to sam and bumblee while having to add mikaela. I thought the decepticons were lacking these character development key points.starscream enters to find megatron; who has just left the erea where the all spark is,but asks starscream do you have the spark? when he says no the fleshbags have moved it.He says you have failed me once again, starscream! but in the visuals there is no referenc let alone a visual of scream. there is of frenzy and megatron, never established a relation ship...you me and us fans know starscream and megatrons relationship, but for the non-fan being introduced to the genre like my girl, and sister in law. they were like whats he talking about failing him again, josh?

I think the whole opening sequence with Blackout in Qatar should have been done with Starscream. He'd be perfect for picking a one-sided fight against a bunch of puny humans. And he could have been yelling and taunting them, "Pathetic fools, there's no escape!" And he could have mumbled something to Scorponok as he dropped him off about how "this should finally make Megatron happy" to help set the tone of their relationship.

Well siwel blackout was one of the biggest and I think bay wanted to say "hey check out this" and then BOOM! Starscream would have been way to small and even though he is quick he is far better in the air. If they had done the dogfight sequence with starscream and the other f-22's at the qatar base it would have been a bit like watching topgun with raptors add on top of this most of the audience would have gotten confused when he transfomed back and forth because of the number of f-22's in the air.

The pavelow was the right way to go as you can clearly see the difference and their is no mistake who the badass was/is.

I think it could have played out exactly the same with Starscream. He flies in, lands, transforms, and starts shooting. He would have been plenty bigger than the little humans running away. No dogfight, no confusion.
