"Upstate", because I only consider a certain part of NY upstate, simply put:

Thanks! I have a mountain view right out of my bedroom window, but it's nowhere near as impressive as what you see in the pic. You have to go for a drive to see the big stuff. The problem is is that everybody wants to see it so it gets pretty busy in those parts.

Still, having the fresh air and a mountain view from your window is awesome.

Manhattan is a borough within New York City, which is within New York state.

    Just go to Google Maps!

Yeah, I know that NYC is not all of NY state! :-) I was referring to the frequent misunderstanding that NYC is ALL of the state!

So, Trail, I thought you were in the Upstate portion. Am I confused???

I guess Oswego could be considered upstate, after all that map "upstate vs. not upstate" drew the line a little too high.

A bourough. NYC is made up of 5 bouroughs (sp?). Manhattan is considered the "heart" of NYC by many, because it is what most people think of when they think of NYC. That's where Central Park, the Empire State Building, etc., are located (along with many other landmarks!). Did I get that right, Trail?

    Yes.

The other Boroughs are the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. All boroughs act the same way as counties too.

Wiki's got an article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borough...w_York_City%29

Friggen' scholarship essays. I don't even know what to write.

Question: "Write a short summary of your career goals on a separate piece of paper."

    Me: "........................"
Me: "Mom, what would you consider a 'short summary?'"
    Mom: "Three paragraphs."
    Me: "On what?"
Mom: "What your goals are, why you want to pursue them, and what you hope to achieve."
Me: "I can sum that up in three friggen' sentences!"

I want to be a filmmaker, because I love movies and the film industry. I hope to achieve great success from it.

    Two sentences!

For enhancement: Why do you love movies? Do you have a "defining moment" that made you realize how much you love them? (Scholarships and colleges LOVE defining moments!) And define "success". What will success mean for you, and how will you know when you have achieved it?

Okay, I got the first paragraph done. Basically it summarizes film as an art form and a form of communication and how a competitive industry formed from it and how I believe it's time for me to get involved and in this art form/form of communication.

Basically I'm saying "This is such an awesome industry as it does really awesome things for society, so wouldn't it be AWESOME if you guys gave me an AWESOME scholarship to help me pay for my AWESOME college so I can get an AWESOME career in this AWESOME industry and do amazing and AWESOME things? You guys will be heroes...and AWESOME."
