Watched the Crazies last night, not bad but I thought it was a zombie slasher movie... (it's about a biological warfare toxin that get's "accidentally" released in a small town)

Going on a date this Friday night and we're planning to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I'll will her over by pointing out who I know in the credits from the WETA Digital team lol.

btw is it just me or does Tmothy Olyphant look like Josh Duhamel?

Which Crazies? the 1973 obscure George Romero movie or 2010's remake?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Brilliant reboot of the franchise and i adore the POTA series, the mocap was awesome on Caesar and gave expression plus emotion like WETA did with Avatar.

Audition was horrifying, Ichi The Killer and Imprint were worse.

Didn't buy Jesse Eisenberg as a pizza boy. (just too neurotic to play a stoner I guess, which works for Social Network or his character in Zombieland) But the movie is funny (warning: blue, sometimes raunchy, non-pc funny). If guys like McBride, Ansari, and Swardson aren't your cup of tea, then this one won't be winning you over.

The 2010 version. But he isn't the one that steals the show. It's his deputy, Russel, played by Joe Anderson, that was just fantastic in the movie. I can't believe he's from across the pond!!!!!!

Last movie, I saw Rise of the Apes again last night. This time I dragged my aunt and a cousin that really didn't want to see it, but once Caesar starts to run around the house, she got hooked. The theater was really full too. I swore it was more full this week than it was last week when I went. And it held up well during the second viewing. This is a definite must have once it comes out on DVD! I just love this movie!

    Revenge of the Fallen

Ok, the movie is full of dumb over the top jokes, but it's really frantic and the most exciting one of the trilogy.

+ Looks AWESOME in Full HD.

The Thing from another world (1951) ~http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thi..._Another_World

I had heard and even read at that wiki page that John Carpenter's 1982 version called The Thing is a remake of this film. I will say not so.

In this we see the beginning when the ship is found in the ice. We even see them digging the ice to get the body out ,pulling the block of ice into the camp and the ice ends up melting allowing the thing to do it's bidding. Even tho' this has a definite ending to it, Carpenter looked at it as if it didn't and then continued the story in The Thing ('82).

Eventually we can say the the '82 version is a sort of continuation of the '51 Thing. Thus with this new Thing coming out this October that shows them locating the ship and body, hauling the block of ice back to camp and the ice melting, I would say this Thing (2011) is actually basically a remake of the '51 Thing.

I re-watched the '82 Thing last week to refresh my memories to notice stuff.

Hardkore, The 1982 Thing is NOT a sequel nor remake to the 1951 movie! It was a faithful readaptation of the novel "Who Goes There" and is NOT related to 1951's version because they are two separate and very different movies, 1951's movie was good but a piss-poor adaptation of the novella because they didn't have the technology or the time to do the monster justice as the shapeshifter in the original novel as instead they had a guy in a frankenstein carrot man outfit. Carpenter's movie was more truthful to the novella since the creature is a shapeshifter that can imitate anyone.

The new one will be a prequel to Carpenter's re-adaptation. Read "Who Goes There" by John Campbell online and you'll be surprised by that novella.

First off I never said it was a sequel, just a sort of continuation of the '51 version as if the '51 never truely ended.

Second, I said i read at the wiki page it says the '82 version was a remake of the '51 version. Plus You said it yourself too in the other thread.

Carpenter grew up with the original movie when he was a kid as it's one of his fave movies and grew up with the novel "Who goes there" which inspired the 1951 Howard Hawks movie, Carpenter made a movie that was better than the original.
I will agree that Carpenter's version was faithful mainly cuz they probably just didn't have the resources to do the creature back in '51.

Plus ,yes, the '82 was faithful to the novella in general. They both had the shapeshifter, The names of the characters are the same and the outcome the same. Yet the '82 version skipped the part of them finding and bringing back the creature and made the story to as if another camp did that instead. I do think this helped make the movie more tense.

They actually are related in Carpenter's words.

Sorry Alexism, but like i said they are two separate movies and different adaptations of that novella, read it online and you'll find it an amazing influential novella that spawned both versions.

Fright Night (1985): Classic vampire movie, i saw this in theaters when i was 4 2 times and loved it.
Fright Night part 2: underrated sequel, just as fun as the original.
Fright Night 2011: Excellent remake of the 1985 classic has great fun and pokes fun at modern vampire stuff like the original did.

The fact that you see the Norwegians following the storyline of the 1951 movie (video tapes and that stuff) is not casual.

that was just a homage to 1951's movie including the opening and 1982's movie was more truthful to John Campbell's vision as it had the proper technology to make it a shapeshifter instead of a killer vegetable, they are two different versions and 1982's version is the best because of the faithfulness to the novel.
