Default What Movies Have You Seen Lately? (Part 2)

Since I'm getting a database error for the first one and since that one is getting really long let's start another.

Sherlock Holmes - Okay, so critics were complaining that Guy Ritchie was trying to lean away from the typical Sherlock Holmes style to make the movie cool for today's audiences? Well ya know what? It was very damn cool and I liked it a lot. And Robert Downey, Jr., he was born to play Sherlock Holmes.

9 - Okay. Great premise and all but the whole movie was a lame borefest. If I let myself I would have fallen asleep through it. And ending...ugh, don't get me started on that.

The original short film wasn't any better, it didn't even establish what the heck was going on. Okay so a robot rag doll...thing...is running away from a robot...thing...with an animal skull. Kills it, then uses this...thing...to make his buddies' spirits come out and go to some...place...okay.

A couple things I did like about the movie was the big evil machine and the chicken walkers, they remind me of tripods. Oh and 7, because I'm a fan of badass female robot warriors. (yeah she's a robot, isn't she?)

Saw Sherlock Holmes today. I liked it a lot. I love literary Holmes and this version actually came very close to Conan Doyle's vision. I liked the look of the film, the historical accuracy was decent, a couple minor misssteps to that, but done for stylistic purposes, and for the most part not blatantly out of period, so forgivable.

My one minor beef? As much as I like Rachel McAdams in general, and love that Irene Adler, in the stories, gnawed on Holmes' mind, I found her character totally unneccessary to the story. She seemed just to be there to give some curves to the movie.

I'm very bewildered with that comment. Funny People, despite it's name, and actors, was more along the lines of a drama, and laughs were few and far between. I think the most funny moment was when Laura mocked Clarke (Bana).

The Hangover was silly, outrageous and funny as hell.

Watched the first 25 minutes (that was torture enough) of Final Destination 4. My God what a horrible movie. Bad acting (except for Mykelti Williamson), horrific cgi, terrible story line, the works. They should have left it with 2.

Last movie watched was My Name Is Bruce. Really enjoyed it (plot was predictable, but I didn't keep watching for that...kept watching for the funny stuffz ). If you liked Army of Darkness, you'll enjoy this one (not as good as AoD, but still enjoyable). Watched it on Netflix (their streaming service online...PC one, not any of the console ones). Hopefully I'll be able to find it in a store around here sometime and buy it. Maybe Best Buy near my sister will have it ^_^

I happen to like the Final Destination movies, i think they are great gory fun of a horror franchise besides the Saw series.

I watched David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises" on Blu-Ray, spectacular and thrilling psychological thriller from one of my favorite directors. The guy who did "The Fly", "Videodrome", "Scanners", "History of Violence" and many more.

As far as The Book of Eli, anything with Denzel Washington is going to be awesome. Speaking of Denzel I just watched one of his classics "Ricochet". He and John Lithgow (huge fan) were great together.

Oh, I remember my dad taking me to see that when I was 12. I remember Robocop being in it also. I haven't seen it since then. Lithgow is great. The things he is able to do with his voice is amazing. I would like to see one of his Broadway plays.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day, special edition.

Epic awesomeness on unimaginable levels. And the extra footage really added a lot more to it too. It made me wonder why it was never put in the original theatrical version.

That may have been my favorite one. But I loved the 1st 3, so I really don't know which is my favorite one. I am so confused.

I didn't realize how sad that voice over was. Wow. That is pretty deep TB. But, what about T3. He was a good guy. I also think he was a little more humorous in that one.

Well I think they were milking the franchise a bit with T3. Sure, he was a little more humorous in T3, but there wasn't a "friendship" between him and John Connor like there was in T2.

T3 also makes the whole timeline paradox thing even more confusing. I feel more comfortable with T2.

The whole time travel issue with movies has always been an issue for me, because I always lived with the notion that you could never go to the past and actually change things. Instead, you simply become a part of the past and fulfill your role in history. In fact, one book/movie that goes with this concept is...believe it or not...Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. If anybody has seen this, [SPOILERS] Harry almost gets killed by Dementors until he is supposedly saved by his father, or so he thinks. So he travels back in time with Hermione, and he had to end up saving himself. So it was himself that saved him, not his daddy. This shows how you simply fulfill your role in history when you travel back in time. [END SPOILERS]

Then I read into the whole time travel thing on the Terminator Wiki a little more, and they solve the issue with the concept of alternate timelines, or the formation of parallel universes when a Terminator or whoever (Kyle Reese for example) gets sent back. So basically a universe where the Terminator never went to the past exists, and runs parallel to the one where it did happen.

Sure, this clears things up a bit, but the whole continuous loop of Kyle Reese going to the past, fathering John Connor, and being born again in the future, only to go to the past to father John Connor, the process repeats over and over again. You end up with an infinite number of parallel universes forming. It's very brain wracking.

T3 makes the issue even more confusing. Because now you got a universe where Judgment Day was only postponed, and now T-X going to the past and speeding up Skynet's process. Right there, she just created a universe where Skynet advances much faster, resulting in the T-800 being created in 2018 rather than 2029, aka...Terminator Salvation.

So to conclude this, even though I'm a big trilogy guy, I feel comfortable with two Terminator movies. Also, without sounding like a JC zealot, T3 would have been a hell of a lot better if James Cameron was in the director's chair.

That is what I thought about as I was watching Terminator: Salvation. Esp. when John Connor met Kyle Reese. If something were to happen to Reese, would Connor just cease to exist, or since Connor is already existing would he continue to exist even though the father who was supposed to go back in time in the future is now dead and unable to father John. It didn't dawn on me until T4 and I began asking myself those questions while watching it. It's not like Back to the Future where it is straight forward. Marty messed up when he met his mom, now he has to make mom fall in love with dad all over again or else the McFly children would cease to exist.

I wanna retract my statement about them milking the franchise. I would actually love to see another Terminator movie, except It should follow the classic Terminator formula where you have one sent to the past to kill someone while you have another sent to protect them. This time, I'd like to see it be about one of John Connor's top generals or maybe his successor/parent of his successor. I mean after all, there's no way John Connor would be the only one on Skynet's most wanted list. I'd also love to see a good female Terminator, heck throw Arnie in the mix too, they have the technology to recreate his face after all. Just imagine two good Terminators working together!

Oh, you can't get out that way. Gotta go forward to go back. Better press on.
