    Cool Re: Predators

Well ,only 3 weeks to go now. The release date is July 9th.

The director of the movie,Nimrod Antal, is pretty good. The other day I saw one of his movies ,Armored, which also featured Laurence Fishburne.

Seeing some of his work makes me feel really good to be looking forward to Predators.

You should give Antal's Vacancy a shot as well, HK. (if you haven't seen it already)

For those interested, they are also re-releasing the original Predator on BD. With a remastered picture. (and movie money to see this new film). Hopefully this new transfer will prove to be an improvement over the previous BD release.

    Wrt Armoured - erm....don't.
    Really.

It's actually pretty lame. If you have a film where the first act promises action and conflict, then I expect that film to deliver. This one didn't. And if not on the action, then at least let me feel like the lead is being challenged in some way.
Armoured had a great cast but that's about it.

It's the one reason I'm in doubt over Predators. If it wasn't for RR's involvement as writer/producer, I'd write it off entirely.

    IMO, Armoured - Lame.

I probably should have mentioned it but I didn't since I hadn't seen it yet. I've heard all kinds of good things about it but keep forgetting to put it on my Netflix queue. I think I'll go do that right now.

***OK,done. I even went ahead and added his debut called Kontroll.

    Thumbs up Re: Predators

How come this thread has died so fast? I watched it few nights ago and thought it was an absolute surprise.

They succeeded - in the vein of a Predator movie, they just did.

This reboot/remake/sequel (? - we just don't know anymore. I mean they do mention the event of the first film, so that makes it a sequel. Yet, this one is so similar to the original that it feels more like a remake. But according to today standards, you should consider it a reboot) works just like Batman Begins or Terminator Salvation did : It's seriously made and makes you forget whatever is in between this one and the original.

As a kid, even though it was common knowledge that Predator was the better movie, I remember thinking that Predator 2 was the coolest. I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, but I watched it again last month : Some scenes actually really suck, and Glover just doesn't cut it. So if you worry about Brody : he does the job.

Obviously, there are few weak cgi details, but it is still a treat to enjoy, especially if you saw the original.

It was a great comeback for everyone's favorite dreadlocked fish-face from space.

Blasphemy! j/k I still love Predator 2. For it's change-of-pace switch to the urban jungle, Bill Paxton movie monster hat trick (T-800, Alien, Predator), Gary Busey antics and all.

For me this new one is a welcome addition, in line as pt.3. Even though it fails to consider the second one as canon.

It needed more Larry and I loathe Adrian Brody, but I really did enjoy the film. Great return to the universe. One of the most frustrating thing about the film industry is that it really sucks at maintaining truly cohesive film universes. (Star Wars doesn't count - George is an independent filmmaker!)

That's why I thought it was the coolest.

That's why I only mentioned Glover.

Yeah I know, I should have been more specific : Predator 2's first scene is lame, as it is overplayed by every single actor. On the other hand, the ending, when Glover is being handed the gun as a reward/trophy, is still the coolest of all the predator's movies

Although I love the esthetic of this movie, its script did not allow any room for that "huit-clos" feeling you get from the first one. It is obviously on purpose, but it lacks the atmosphere that made me love the first one.

Regarding Glover, I will mention Switchback or Silverado as a reference. I will not forget about Murtaugh - including his cameo in Marverick. But as a cool though guy? Nah, he's too old for this shit!
