Default What's Up With The Politics?

I was under the impression that this forum was about MB and his movies, not political leanings. Why in the hell would you ban someone over something like this? I do hope this goes both ways, ie, if Bush or Cheney pass away in the near future, that you demand the same respect for them as you did Senator Kennedy.

    Am I missing something?

I'm new here, so I'm just guessing, but as an admin in another forum it may have to do more with overall posting quality than a political statement, if the situation you're referring to correct. Click "find all posts by member" and have a glance. I don't usually notice who is posting, I just read posts, but I was surprised at the hostility when I had them all in a row...

I mean, the "Michael Bay made Megan Fox wash Ferrari..."thread probably didn't go over well... LOL!

Still, maybe the ban is temporary and since he was here since 2007, I'm sure he made good contributions... so maybe this'll blow over.

The guy that got banned had it coming for a long time, Nelson was more than patient with him, I may not post a lot, but I follow the discussions, I for one, am glad he wont post here anymore.

I actually gotta give props to Nelson for letting politics run pretty much free here..hell I am surprised at some of the content that he lets people talk about freely. As I know many of us do not see eye to eye on many ideas about this political structure in our country..

Just like Nelson throwing in a line about the Bush admin just as he closes the thread..but hey..I wont get into it here..but whatever..

Was Ted K. a good person?? im many respects yes. He did a lot of good.as with all politicians or just people in general he had his dark side and being a Kennedy that side was shown more..

but to say mean and hateful remarks out of line..then yes thats a ban issue..

Look you can have your opinions on here..like said Nelson and I would never be in agreement on much on here in that topic but I can give him credit for letting it be said on here in a debate..

something many boards lack..and one reason is some people can not have a bedate without being like BJ was.

Drake, For what it's worth, I thought we were having a fair debate in that thread. I thought it was unfair for the thread to be closed simply because one poster couldn't argue his point without resorting to vulgar insults towards just about everyone who disagrees with his views. But I'm not an admin. And the admin did what he thought was necessary before anything got out of hand.

I love a good debate every now and then. Especially when the arguments presented are justified from the opposing point of view. Again, for what it's worth, Drake I felt you're arguments were genuinely justified from your point of view. Unlike Beetlejuice, you are able to argue your point while still being respectful. And I can understand where you are coming from on those views. I would say you have nothing to worry about if you are afraid of being banned for your opinions.

As for BJ getting banned, he's been hostile & vile towards most everything and everyone opposing him. And sometimes for no real reason at all. At least I can speak for the times where've I've seen him post. He couldn't make an argument on anything without directly insulting someone on the board or making radically slimy or slanderous style statements. Completely unjustified. Many times it seemed that he just thrived on directly insulting everyone and that was the only fuel to anything he said. He enjoyed pissing as many people off as he could. I've "clashed" with him before, and I'm actually surprised he lasted this long.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Though the general demographic here on the boards isn't in BeetleJuice's favor, we all debated as respectfully as possible, which, like Z28 said, is definitely a treat, as many boards forbid it (such as TFW2005). Beetlejuice just couldn't do that, and was the prime example of why other forums forbid political talk. Anybody who he disliked, or couldn't agree with was an idiot to him. Sure, he was definitely a smart guy, his knowledge of politics is vast, but he was very condescending to anybody who wasn't on his side. He labeled me a communist. Now I have no idea what he said to everybody else, but I'm sure it was hurtful, and sometimes just down right unwarranted. And what he said about wishing the late senator a painful death was hurtful to me, because I went through the same experience the Kennedy family is facing right now. I was shocked to see that Senator Kennedy had passed. In fact, seeing the thread title in the Misc. section was how I learned of it. But when I saw Beetle's name in the "last post" section, I knew right away this wasn't going to end well. It didn't, for Beetle mostly. I won't miss him, I got more important things to do than have Beetle on my mind.

Same. I did not know he passed away until I looked in there.

I think political discussions will be fine. Most discussions are fairly levelheaded on here and require no intervention (even some that got a bit passionate were still left alone). Nelson has even joined in some of these discussions. As Dynasty pointed out, this was more of a posting history thing, with the Senator Kennedy thread being the last straw.

If BJ was a repeat offender, then that's fine. I wasn't really tracking the guy, so I don't know his history. It just looked like he was banned over that one thread, and the Bush parting line from Nelson made me all :wtf.

But, like I said... I may have missed something that led to his banning.

Oh, Nelson was just throwing in his two cents, lol. He's known to participate frequently in these little political debates we have on here.

Sometimes in a heated thread, someone will crack... but that's not the same as a pattern of posting.

    WHAT? Somebody got Banned? Who?

    (Reads Further)

    Oh him.....

Well, I can't say I'll miss him. I could say some joke about mentioning his name three times but that would be inapropreate.

I agree. I love a good debate so long as it doesn't get to the point where you're insulting anyone. I have'nt read any of BJ's posts but If he couldn't debate without resorting to insults than he's not the kind of person I would want to debate with.
