    Default IMAX Opinion

Went to see the movie in IMAX that apparently has the 3rd largest screen in the world. As soon as i entered the massive room the first thought that occured to me was, ''im gunna get tennis neck in here''.

Its really nice and all how big it is, but i personally dont see the need for something that big. In order to see the entire screen i either have to crane my neck back and forth, up and down, or take a seat at the far back. The latter contradicts the whole point of IMAX.

So to put a fine point on it, if the whole movie was IMAX, i can see the point in having a screen designed that way, but since only the big fight scenes were IMAX, its a little bit of a waste. I can understand that apparently the film is substantially more expensive so i wont rally to have a whole movie in that format.

The only thing i can think of is that the purpose of IMAX is to satisfy those ultra high def. freaks out there that simply refuse to watch something (even a trailer) unless its in the biggest format, biggest screen and loudest sound possible in their house.

All things being considered, i will probably go back and watch other movies there, though only big blockbuster action movies.

Now I have never seen a feature length film in an IMAX before (the only thing I have seen was the Space Station documentary) but I find seeing a movie at a conventional theater quite satisfying enough, that takes up the whole viewing area in front of me as it is (depending on how close I would sit). I may have to see a film in IMAX one day to see what all the fuss is about. (they're too damn far away!)

I'm going to the biggest IMAX screen in the world.
I gotta get the back row....

But, yeah, why is IMAX so friggin' huge?

It does make a (big) difference, but it's hard to explain.

You don't sit too close, because if you do you'll suffer from the whole "viewer fatigue" thing. But you could just as easily get that with a normal-size screen anyway.

So even though the screen is bigger, you sit further back than you would with a normal screen, so that it's about the same size as the normal one would be. Except that the scope of what you're watching is that much bigger, your eyes can tell the difference.

As I said, it's really hard to explain. You really do just have to experience it for yourself to understand.

I have actually been to the Sydney IMAX a few times when I was a little kid but I don't really remember what it was like seeing a screen that big. I'll know in Tuesday.

    Sorry to bump this thread.

I saw it opening night on the mini Imax and was floored. I saw it tonight at the huge Imax and was kind of bummed. I guess I thought getting there a half hour early was enough for a week old movie but we had to sit middle/middle. It was rough. Too much for the eyes. Almost gave me a headache and all the transformation/explosion scenes were garbbled. The smaller screen was far superior. I'm glad I got the see the forest scene that large and it was the easiest scene to have a visual handle on, but that's about it.

Indeed, it's more of a brag factor than a visual experience

    You know what that means?

When somebody comes up to me and says "HA! I saw the movie in IMAX! In yo face!" I'm gonna say to them "HA! I saw the movie in a conventional theater and I could tell what was going on! In yo face!"

I mean, the day before I saw Star Trek in a rather small theater room that probably only held like a little over 50 people and and I found it rather comfortable in that place. I was sitting in the very back actually and didn't mind the film reel clicking behind me.

    It was AWESOME!!!!

Mine was a Min-IMAX but still, the picture was huge and it takes a little bit for your eyes to adjust but eventually gets used to it

The forest fight really is the highlight of the IMAX version. The black bars that make the screen wide dissappear and it takes up the entire screen which is AWESOME and HUGE!

The picture quality is just crystal clear like watching a Blu-Ray on the big screen. I was in absolute awe when I saw it.

I'm surprised how some people cannot tell the difference. You can tell right away when you see it switch between standard definition and IMAX resolution.

And all the scenes with Devastator also take up the entire screen

I need to watch it in IMAX again before it comes off the theater for Harry Potter

Can someone please name all the scenes that are in IMAX?

I know of the forest fight and Devastator.
What else? The tomb of the Primes?

It's just to give people a different experience....Next time dont go to the "3rd Largest IMAX Theater" then if you're going to complain about how uncomfortable it was...

I've seen ROTF twice now - once in IMAX and once in a regular theatre. I noticed a distinct difference in clarity of picture, colour, and sound. The difference in sound was much bigger than I was expecting.

As far as visuals go... the best example I can think of is watching a Hockey game in regular definition, and then switching to Hi-Definition. Difference in quality is quite apparent.

    Just my two cents...

    MInus Tomb of Primes

Why is that a shame? The Devastator scenes look GRAND! And the Forest Fight in IMAX was worth the price of admission alone

I only wished the entire dessert sequence and shanghai opening was like that

there was an extra like 2 or 3 seconds in the forest fight it was when the decepticons started to beat up optimus right before megatron blasted him into the air.

Michael Bay said it was 1 additional minute of robot footage

I think it is a bunch of extended shots which are a few seconds longer along with some 3 or 4 second additional shots which when totaled up equal to 1 minute

It will be hard to catch
