Question Whats Up With The Beginning?

I've been forgetting to ask this for a while now--

Whats up with the beginning of the movie? Blackout was completely annihilating the Qatar base sending forth tanks, flying left and right, killing countless with his shock waves.

    THEN

All the transformers become weak and scrappy in comparison. Its like they forget they have all sorts of technology at their disposal. Even when blackout was in the city, he didn't cause anywhere near that kind of Havoc ever again.

So whats up with this? I loved the movie but its like they made this scene then realized "oh they are too strong lets dim their skills by 50%."

Anyone else notice that? Or is this all old news and I just missed its headline...

i think everyone noticed it but it wasn't really an issue to be completely honest

Blackout was the first encounter and the military was not prepared for what they were about to be up against. They weren't ready for that surprise attack.

Sure the military did what they were trained to do but it wasn't enough

At the finale, they sneaked up on Blackout and took him out by surprise with the right weapons and also the firepower from air support which was more than what Blackout was expecting. He wasn't ready for it since he was probably thinking his weapons were far superior than the humans

I think one has to realize that the bad guys believe they now have the upper hand once they are at Mission City. From Frenzy uploading the widespread virus to the unthawing of their leader.

Their arrogance in believing that obtaining the Allspark was just a matter of time at that point combined with the rest of darthrage's post above probably led to their guard (read: capability for destruction) being down. They didn't even realize (or didn't care) that they were the remaining half (4) left.

Point being: they got messy and couldn't close at crunch time.

Two words impacted the beginning attack on the Qatar base:

NO AUTOBOTS. The Autobots were not on earth yet, and no one was anticipating that attack on the base. No warning was given, unlike the downtown battle, where Sam was able to explain everything OP told him to the military guys.

    'nuff said 'bout that.

And another thing could be that the Decepticons got sloppy because they were focused on getting the All Spark.

    Thanks,

That makes a bit of sense due to their carelessness, I just never grasped that aspect while watching.

But what about the shockwaves? he was melting planes in the first scene, and in the end fight when sam was running towards him I assumed he would just smelt the kid and grab the allspark but then he took off.

Shockwave wasn't in the movie. I think you mean Blackout (the helicopter) and the scene where he lands on the street and chops up a taxi. I doubt he'd risk damaging the Allspark by firing at Sam while he's holding it and Ironhide and Ratchet where running behind Sam so Blackout would have to take off or he'd probably be toast.

He means the SHOCKWAVES or the Electric Magnetic pulse that blackout used which basically wiped out half the air base during the beginning of the movie.

Doh! Well at least this time I can't blame it on alcohol

Anyway.. I think that the total destruction of the base in the beginning was more of mood-setter. We simply didn't stand a fracking chance against Blackout and Bay wanted to give that impression. These Transformers are badass!
