Default transformers and beast wars....whats the connection??

I've been going around various forums looking for some answers to this...this may be a dumb question but i can't for the life of me understand the transformer/beast wars
connection. Is it a paralell universe? seperate universe or what? Is there no connection at all in the storyline and just two separate shows or is there mythology to it

sorry to sound horribly ignorant but, i just can't figure it out
    thanks

A little rusty on this. But it's basically just a continuation of the story set a few thousand years in the future from the original series. It was meant to be a seperate universe originally but as the series went on the writers found ways to add more, and more ties to G1.

    Basically here it is.

The Maximals and Predacons (future autobots and decepticons)

are somehow lost on earth back in time when the Ark crash landed on earth (G1). They are from the far future and they are built alot smaller than their ancestors.

They dont know what planet they are on until they find the ark. (I think)

Then they have to prevent the Predacons from destroying Optimus Prime and the rest of the G1 autobots. The Predacons believe if they destroy the G1 autobots, they can change the future in which they live. So the Maximals create a fort at the entrance to the ark.

During the run of these episodes, different protoforms land on earth and whichever sanction gets to them first can add another member. So the cast on both sides continues to grow.

And Optimus Primal also continues to evolve. The last episode involves Ravage from G1.

Im sure there is someone out there who can rock this answer better then me.

Autobot pretty much hit the Spark notes. Nice.

    Either Way:

The Maximals are future versions of the Autobots. They are transporting their protoforms through space when they are Attack by Future version of G1 Megatron's Name sake.

The robot transformers crash to earth, and to avoid damage to protoforms they release them within orbit. (Which is why some randomly crash to earth)

On landing the Maximals and Preds both realize that the planet is too rich in Energon to sustain a robot mode so they choose to go with beasts.

As the series progresses more protoforms crash to earth. Megatron is after a message from the Origional Megs that was encoded on the golden disk sent forth on the Voyager space craft. It's destroyed all but a fragment. Throughout the first season you See Unicron (Who is actually the second moon that is orbiting earth)

Long story short, Megs decides to kill off early humans, and also finds the resting place of the Origional ark which he says will have the Autobots awaken in "1984". Along the same timeline is a line from RatTrap that says "Diecasting, It's a lost art".

Megs decideds to Resurect the Nemisis, but is stopped. Then Megs finds the Ark. Destroys Prime. Optimus Primal has to take on the Spark of Prime and changes majorly. Megatron gets a cute Idea to do the same with Megatron.

In the end the take a Shuttle from the Ark back to Cybertron, after repairing Optimus Prime, and the Beast Machines series begins.

Coolest moment is the G1 Ravage. They talk about how he is one of the last surviving cons from the great war. He's been reformatted, but is still is a cassette.

But it's basically a sequel to Transformers, but has it's ties to the first series.

    OOOOh that one. Naa dude.

They re did everything in that one.

They go from the "Great War" to, "hey guys, Sentinel Prime is a dork"

They recreated the whole thing, picking up pieces along the way and re-writing alot of crap.

CB, she's 14 years old. No wonder general audiences in younger generation don't know about BW. Besides, she didn't say she's a true Transfan, she just said she's a Bay fan.
