Default The making of a good sequel

I usually am very apprehensive about movie sequels as they more often then not are always awful.

But it seems there is a longstanding trend, especially recently with comic book movies that when the original director stays on board its almost always of equal or better quality.

    Examples
    Godfather
    Tim Burton's batman
    Spiderman
    x-men
    C. Nolan's Batman

Typically with a director switch mid series, it totally ruins the franchise. (Ahem Batman Forever, jaws )

This leads me to believe Transformer's 2 under the control of Mr. Bay is going to be rad as hell. That and the trailers look amazing and devastator.

    Anyone else notice this?

I believe that 99.99% are with you on this. Trailer upon trailer has shown nothing but pure awesomeness, and devs has been the talk of the world since his first photo was leaked months ago.

If you read a little further into the posts, you'll see that ALOT of people think this movie is gonna be rad as hell.

less than 2 weeks left, and we'll see

Can I take this opportunity to say I saw Terminator last night and it was nowhere near as good as that McG (what the hell is his damn name anyway?) made it out to be.

His robots sucked ass. And the plot made sense while I was there, but as I thought about it more it came apart one thread at a time.

Terminator ONE AND TWO are good films, and this is applicable to your recurring director thingy.

Transformers will be good because the source material is good, the writers are great, the director is awesome at this kind of film and the actors suit the roles.

Never say that your never going to see a movie, be it crap or not. Who knows, you might enjoy it while it lasts. I loved Terminator Salvation because it gave me what I wanted: Cool looking robots blowin' s**t up. I know MCG isn't a great director but he's getting better. At least the movie is a huge improvement over those stupid Charlie's Angels movies.

I think wolverine exemplifies how awful a sequel by an unknown can be.

I know some people liked it but i thought it was fucking terrible

Since we are discussing sequels - some movies that were terrible come to mind:

-The first Transporter was great (all of them thrived on action), and then the past 2 felt much to be desired.

-I liked the first Kill Bill alot, action driven movie. The conclusion sequel was terrible.

Then there are sequels where they are just as good or if not better than the prequel:

IMHO the Back to the Future movies were one of the bigest examples of this, Pirates of the Carribean movies, the Star Wars movies were long lasting, etc.

I think as long as they strengthen their weak points and build/keep their strong points, I think it will deliver big time. Only time will tell.

Just for the record. Both Kill Bill 1 & 2 were directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to filmmaking and movie discussion?

I know that, I may have drifted a tad off-topic. I was comparing sequels that haven't lived up to expectations from the prequels, and sequels that matched or surpassed expections.

pearlharbour... I gotta say I actually enjoyed Wolverine. I'm not exactly sure I'd call it a "sequel" though. Did you watch the shitty leaked version or see it in theater?
