avatar had nice spaceships, the spaceships made the movie watchable. i didn't like the dancing with smurfs storyline and the ferngully setting.

I suppose that is what he meant. It needs another $29 million domestically which shouldn't be a problem.

Numbers have been updated and it is now #2 in the all time box office.

Great achievement by James, but so many more deserve credit, the SFX team is the real heros behind this movie.

Ok saw it today. The visual are stunning. IMO, the visual - Pandora, forest, creature - is better than ROTF. The are some scenes that makes my heart beat. There are also sad/emotional moment like when the marines shooting the big tree, Zoe character's mother help Jake and Grace escape and ask them to help the Navi if they are really one of them.

So im not sure if I want a repeat viewing like I did with ROTF. But I will sure get the Blurauy on day one when it comes out.

Even though we've seen it here is a very nice "guide" to Pandora, or featurette narrated by Sigourney Weaver in HD. Worth a watch.

Titanic and Avatar of the James Cameron Dynasty are now the King and Queen of the box office.

I predict that this movie is probably gonna remain in theaters for quite awhile. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if it's still playing around March and April. So many of my friends at school have seen it so it's pretty clear to me that it's becoming a sensation.

Afterall Cameron and Mike do have similar movies such as Pearl Harbor and Titanic but i still think Titanic is the better made out of the two, and that was a 90's classic dudes and dudettes. I can't wait for the future of James Cameron such as him doing Battle Angel Alita and a couple of segments for the upcoming multi-animated Heavy Metal movie.

But the only director comparable to Cameron is basically Peter Jackson. And who else thought Zoe's alien chick character is smokin' hot? i mean nothing beats alien beauties from space no matter what they look like not even cat-like Nightcrawler-lookalike smurf people.
Smurf people sounds like such a derogatory term.

And let's not forget that "Avatar" was nominated for 4 Golden Globes before its worldwide release!

    Why?

Simple - because it's James Cameron and most critics are willing to close their eyes and ignore the "bad things" just because it's James "King of the World" Cameron. It's a totally different story when it comes to a Michael Bay film.

But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, because personally I like both Bay and Cameron so it's a win-win situation for me.

    By the way - http://movie-critics.ew.com/2009/12/...-story-matter/
This kind of pissed me off, especially when I think District 9, which had a similar story, deserved that honor more.

Look at the special effects at the oscars for 2007. You know damn well that Transformers had the best visual between all of the nominees, but the pompous oscar committee wasn't about to award no movie with Michael Bay's impact on it.

In addition to which, I have never seen anything quite like the Na'vi before. I thought the concept of an integrated natural network where the inhabitants literally 'plugged in' with their own bodies was fascinating and VERY original. Again, if this has been done verbatim (as some would have you believe), then please, by all means, POINT IT OUT TO ME!

I honestly don't know where everyone saw this same movie previously. I've seen my fair share of flicks and this particularly story was fresh to me.
Actually, now that you sum it that way, Avatar is alot like Aliens in terms of plot, and nearly identical in characters and their relation to eachother as Pocahontas.

The film started it's fourth week on the Thursday just gone and Friday it made $13,275,000 domestically beating newcomer Daybreakers, another great weekend it looks like. So it's still doing incredibly well. I think it's about $667 million behind Titantic. Quite excited following it's progression.
