That is the only reason why a movie like Avatar got some high numbers there. It's all a marketing trick.
Avatar sucks. 3D wise it's pathetic (where the heck is 3D effect? More realistic what? Cartoonish as much as useless!). The CGI is just barely average for a console game, absolutely cartoonish, poor rendering, mechanical models just silly, people on green and blue screen easily spotted. If it wasn't for the huge psuedo-ambientalistic marketing campaign millions of adults worldwide wouldn't have spent a fortune to watch it in theaters first and DVD/Blu-Ray later.
Do you really know so many people that think Avatar sucks?
I don't. I really don't know anyone; some think "not so good", some "just average", but no one who said "Crap".
People went to see it several times, and Marketing can't achieve that.

And, if Marketing can do that, why don't they do it every year? Marketing is powerful, but not so much.

CGI average? for god's sake, CGI was awesome. One of the most impressive works I've seen in my life (most impressive is still Jurassic Park).

3D Pathetic? What do you wanted? stupid stuff jumping to the audience every 3 minutes like some kind of theme park attraction? Resident Evil 4 does that, and the trailers already look ridiculous.

You know, even Bay praised it LoL

And studios really have to make lots of fake accounts, because it has high rates in every website where movies can be rated. Even the Spanish ones (with reviews written in perfect Spanish). I suppose that users of music/sports/off-topic boards with thousands of messages who also praised it where also studio employees. Maybe my friends and family are too.

And why didn't the employees of other studios voted against Avatar? You know, with their own thousands of fake accounts.

People liked Avatar, just assume it.

It's because too many people respond to the marketing machine as sheeps, that is what really worked with Avatar.
The majority of adults really don't like it BUT they will tell you that it's the best movie ever and they will spend money on it more and more just because others do that and it's cool to do it. It's just a fashion thing now caused by the marketing machine and they act like sheeps.
They don't think with their own brains anymore. Otherwise they wouldn't be such a hypocrites then telling that Transformers movies would be for children, little kids... then they shouldn't be praising and watching and buying Avatar because that is really kindergarten type stuff.

    Scary, isn't it?

Even an Avatar hater would consider that undeserved.

Why would those teens be dumb enough not to have Avatar or Harry Potter as best movie at the MTV Awards? They use to be cool as now Twilight has taken over.

Do Navi sparkle or Jake glitters?

Any who, did Avatar had that Dune feel to anyone? anyone read the Dune novels or seen the movies of Dune? James Cameron is a huge fan of the Frank Herbert masterpiece Sci-fi novels. You can tell some similarities such as a valuable space substance (Spice to Ubtorium), a race of aliens like Navi and Freman, Jake being an outcast like the Prince, the general being greedy like Baron Harkonen, both prince Paul Artedis and Jake join rebels to stop the prevention of selling the substances in wars and that sort of thing.
