That sounds about right for this kind of movie. I actually thought it'd be more ($300 million), but I guess advancements in CGI are helping to bring down the cost...or maybe I'm just overestimating the budget of this movie.

Actually. I could care less about Titanic. It's just that I really despise the word "fag." And no, I'm not gay. I just really hate that word. I would say "f*ck" 200 times before I say "fag" in it's derogatory context once.

True, but I didn't use it in it's derogatory context.

And nope, I didn't get high speed. But thanks for the b-day wishes anyways.

    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/154...iler-confirmed

20th Century Fox has confirmed that the next full-length trailer for James Cameron's "Avatar" will kick off in theatres this Friday (Oct 23rd).

The good news? The trailer runs three minutes and thirty seconds, giving away a lot more details about the film's story.

The bad news? The trailer won't officially be available online until a week later, October 29th. Expect a few bootleg quality copies before then.

Awesome. I hope it'll be a thousand times more epic than the first trailer.

Some of the trailer music might sound familiar to some here....

And to answer your question, yes it is more epic than the first trailer.

Cameron and Weta have some pretty nice algorithms.*

But...ILM has some really good algorithms too, likewise "Digital Domain".

    Just saw the trailer...

Yes, the music is indeed from a Michael Bay film, Steve Jablonsky's My Name is Lincoln from "The Island".

One thing that was very interesting and weird at the same time - why they pretty much showed the entire James Cameron filmography, "From the Director of Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, True Lies and Titanic"

Would have been enough to just put "From Director James Cameron". They act like people don't know who this guy is and they leave an impression of a desperate promotional campaign. I don't know about you, but personally I thought it was weird and unnecessary.

Overall, it was a very good trailer and I'm sure it'll be a great action film. Even though it'll take some time for me to accept the look of these creatures. It's like I'm watching a CG version of Hugo Weaving :lol

I'm guessing it's because they are not leaving anything to chance seeing that it's been 12 years, from an advertising standpoint. Ask yourself, "How many people within an arm's reach can tell me who Jim Cameron (the name) is?" and I think it becomes apparent, IMO.

    Good point.

But I always thought that most people know the name James Cameron, especially after "Titanic". Well, obviously I was wrong.

They did the exact same with Disney's A Christmas Carol trailers & teasers. In my opinion if I like the look of a film I go see it, I couldn't care less about the directors past films, doesn't mean its going to be a good film it could be awfully written etc. I just honestly do not see the point in doing it. People watch films based on what they like, not a follower of a certain director. Meaning if they looked into who wrote, directed, produced etc they would instantly say " I have to go see this film because of ... "

Again, you have to look at it from the marketing side of it. Who is to say other people don't make associations with previous movies (be it a feeling, certain familiar notes that movies may hit, or yes, even a filmmaker) when deciding whether they are going to be interested? Like it or not, name dropping his previous heavies for something as potentially high concept as this can make all the difference to Joe Moviegoer with said associations.

I should be excited for this (love The Terminator and Aliens; by far Cameron's best work) but I'm not on board yet.

Sure, it is a plus having Sigourney Weaver on board but the digital FX look like one expense virtual reality game.

I'll probably see it on a slow winter afternoon when I'm off work.

After watching the bootleg version I'm not really bothered about seeing this one.

Seriously, both of the trailers doesn't do the film justice. You really had to experience the 15 minute Avatar footage to really appreciate what Jim Cameron is trying to show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vd4WJBavvk

That guy in the video was talking about the CGI and 3D, I made my judgement based on the storyline which we now have an idea about thanks to the new trailer. To me it seems similar to the Battle for Terra storyline.

To be honest, I don't really care about the storyline. I know it's not gonna be something exceptional, so that's why I just want to see a good action film with beautiful CGI. And when it comes to that, Cameron is one of the best.

    Hear, hear!

I'm almost certain it's going to touch on familiar ground thematically. And I really can't relate to the misplaced cynicism (anymore), as if the story's underlying premise was supposed to be groundbreaking. We can break pretty much anything down to a fundamental level and say it's been done before. Unfortunately, I also think the advent of a lot of stuff (be it better quality in video games, similar looking movies, etc.) in Cameron's absence has dulled some of the impact this movie may have to some.* We'll find out soon enough.

*not referring to those that simply don't like any of his movies, or not feeling this one altogether.

You mean you didn't like "the greatest movie of all time"?
