My dad is such a JERK!

Okay, so I'm watching "Marley and Me" with my parents. It's almost the end and I'm already choked up. Then my dad had to say it. "You know, that's us pretty soon." He was talking about our dog, who is 16 or 17 right now. I broke down and sobbed. My parents told me to knock it off and except it. My mom was crying, but she doesn't bawl like I do about animals. I never even cry during movies, but he pushed me over the edge.

Dads suck sometimes. They really do.

I hate to say it but 17 years of dog age is really long , most dogs have to let live go at the age of 14 or 15 orso. My dog died @ the age of 13 and i was pissed too but then again that's the way how life goes.

i got my L 7 months ago. today i forgot to put on my seatbelt right away, because the seat was covered w/ papers, so i ended up puting it on like..2 min. late

therefore, i can't drive for another 2 1/2 months...and then something else stoopid like the time i forgot to put a basketball away will happen and it will probably end up me never driving.

i hate my parents, i live in emotional abuse, and i can't move out

The way he said it was like I wasn't aware of the situation. Oh, I'm very much aware of it. I just don't like to think about it when I'm watching a sad scene in a movie!

Aw, that does suck that he just walked in and said that. I mean yeah, it's part of life, but sometimes you don't want to think about it that way (like my 12yr. cat, don't know how I'll handle that when the time comes). Your story reminds me of the one about my brother actually, shortly after he got his puppy, in like 2nd grade or something, the school made a bunch of the classes sit down and watch Old Yeller... needless to say he was not a happy camper.

I cried at the Fire scene in Bolt, and at many other films; take my word for it I'm 100% dude. I guarantee that every other guy on here too does the same thing. (Admit it dudes we all need to watch a sad movie to "let it out at times") Films are moving, and people like your Dad probably watch a scene and say something they believe is "manly" to avoid true emotions they themselves actually feel.

That's the magic of cinema, just let yourself go. Your Dog is still around though; your dad probably was trying to tell you to enjoy him in his own way.

I've just found out my parents have been lying to me for 10 yrs now!
I always looked up to my cousin Mark and always loved to stay at his place when I was little but then my parents wouldn't let me see him for 10 yrs and I just found out he died in a car accident!
I've threw the biggest spazz attack ever!
why didn't you tell me?
why didn't I get to go to the funeral?
and so many more questions!
I'm going out of the area to the cemetery to see his grave by myself.
I just hope the zombies don't get me!

My dog is old and he is going to die one of these days. It sucks, but I realize it's going to happen and I have accepted it (I just want him to not suffer when he goes...maybe go in his sleep). I had a hamster. Got him September 2007. Right around Xmas this past year, he got an eye infection and died. I was upset and depressed after he died, but I got over it (he died in my hands).

Since I was little I've had pets that have died (cat that got sick, a few dogs hit by cars, etc). Maybe that's why I can deal with it better (that and went through some tough times back when I was 23...that made me a hella stronger person).

I keep in mind that yes today sucks...and tomorrow might suck, but it's not going to last. I'm going to have a good day again and as simple as that sounds, works great for me.

Dad's can suck, but you can't change the fact that they are your dad. Vent, get your anger out, and then get on with stuff. That's baggage not worth carrying around

PS My dad once bawled me out because he told me to watch his draft horse (in full harness) that was tied to a pole...well that horse didn't want to stay there, either, and so he got loose and ran for it. My dad was very unhappy with me, but I was between 10 and 13...like I'm going to tell a big draft horse what to do! I was upset then, but I laugh now, because I see now how ridiculous the whole thing was.

Anyways, now I will actually end my post and be quiet (and stop rambling). Laters

My Dad pretty much raised me because my mother was always working and going to school when I was little. He was a very strong presence in my life, and not always in a good way. He downright abusive shithead when I was a kid. We still fight now and then, but at the same time we're extremely close and we've both grown so much that we realize how badly we used to treat one another and we treat each other very differently now.

All I can say is that there's no manual for how to be a dad and men just lose their shit sometimes and say/do really awful stuff. I had to realize that he was going through his own problems and didn't really know how to raise me correctly (I'm a GIRL for one thing!). He had very little patience. I think a lot of Dads are like that, and that if you wait awhile, he'll come around to you and not be such a jerk. Eventually, you'll grow up and leave and the two of you will switch places in terms of strength. Things change.

I know it's a different scenario... but my father had the ability to walk into a room at the PRECISE moment a rude word was spoken or something smutty appeared when we were kids.

It didn't matter when in the show/movie it was.... he'd appear JUST in time to see/hear it and then he'd ALWAYS make us turn the thing off.
