Thread: Seriously... what's the deal with "Armageddon" Blu-Ray?

  1. #1

Default Seriously... what's the deal with "Armageddon" Blu-Ray?

We know a long while back hearing of the fire that damaged the master HD of the film, but the film isn't destroyed.

This is one of Bay's biggest money makers he's ever done and on my list of best action movies, but we still have yet to hear of any news on the remaster of the film and its journey to HD Blu-Ray. After nearly 11 years... what's the deal?!

I was hoping it would hit last year as a 10th anniversary edition, but nothing.

Does anyone know what's going on with this film? No DVD edition of this film was ever released in anamorphic widescreen and as Harry Stamper would say, "Piss poor."

Does anyone know anything on plans for release on this film? I must be checking like every week for the last 2 years and never hear a peep about it!

    :wtf:wtf:wtf

I imagine it's probably difficult to restore the master. I'm sure they would've released something by now if it wasn't.

What I heard was that the master that goes in vaults got burnt. They might have to splice and dice all the negatives again.

So while tedious and time intensive, not completely impossible? It's a strong selling Buena Vista catalogue title that (I assume) would be worth the trouble. Is it that the ROI to upgrade it isn't there?

I too, express a quiet anticipation for Armageddon on BD (as well as the remainder of Bay's films not yet on BD).

Since Bay supervises editing and color timing, I think that's not an option right now since he is busy with ROTF.

Don't get me wrong, I want Armageddon and the Rock on BD, but priorities first.

For ages alot of stores in the UK had Armageddon down for a feb 2nd release. Obviously that never happened, shame to hear about the problems they're having.

I'm prepared to wait for the best qaulity release though.

Yes, The Rock is available on Blu-Ray. I own that title already.

I really hope something is in the process for Armageddon soon though. It's a much needed title for the format and deserves the treatment. Hell... it never even saw anamorphic DVD which is a crime in itself!

What about the Criterion Collection of Armageddon? While not BD, isn't it suppose to the best version of the film out there? I have a copy, but it's at home and I have not watched it in years.

    hey guys!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes Armageddon! have you all noticed that it has been playing on Starz and Encore a lot lately?

I've DVR'ed it on HD, but it's horrible that it's not REAL HD, I can't help but to see that all they did was zoom in?

also, I know I'm shooting in the dark here, and I will probably NEVER be able to find out, but does anyone know who that NASA chick is that was strapping Rockhound down in the shuttle?

She's the one that Rockhound said she could get a job at Helga's house of pain...LOL...

I don't know, I'm sure she was just an extra and I even looked up the uncredited actors and she's just not listed...would be nice to know though...

I was under the impression that the US did not get an anamorphic transfer of Armageddon on DVD. The Buena Vista, and the Criterion collection edition, are both non anamorphic.

Have you guys noticed that Armageddon has been getting a lot of play time on Starz/Encore?

it's been showing a lot on the HD channels here.

Do you guys know if the movie has been upconverted to HD for Starz/Encore?

Does yours have the extra scenes from the Criterion edition?

I haven't seen the CE edition, I probably won't get it, now that the BR version is going to come out soon, I hope they have the deleted scenes from the CE in it....

I really don't understand Encore/Starz, for the first 5 minutes, they show the widescreen, then during the NYC scene, they go back to normal full screen.
