I just watched War Inc., which is supposed to be the unofficial sequel to Grosse Pointe Blank, a movie I really adore. I've had a copy of this movie for a while, but just never got around to watching it until tonight and I'm a bit sad that I didn't watch it before, as it's pretty hilarious. The comedy can be a little stupid at times (like the escort to the Vice Roy's little chamber's under Popeye's), but otherwise, it was a pretty cool movie. Part of the plot was predictable (there was something I didn't see coming that was a pretty good twist).

Overall, pretty entertaining for being a movie not from a big studio.

Yesterday I saw The Informant!, 9, Sorority Row and Bright Star.

The Informant! was quirky and funny. Matt Damon gave a charming performance for which I'm sure he'll collect a few awards. I was no idea people were still living in the 70s, though. That was odd.

9 was cute. The universe was well-realized and the animation was very crisp. My favorite thing about it was that it was quite thrilling. The action sequences were gripping. My only complaint is that it was light on story. It was ultimately not clear what the situation really means for the future - if each doll represents a part of the inventor than what does it mean for the future when several of them are, well, you know. Also, the bit with the dead woman holding her child was a bit much.

Sorority Row - I really dug this movie. Yeah, it's a remake of a classic and it riffs all a lot of recent horror flicks, but I still dug it. Great jumps, great kills. The characters were fairly well-developed, which is uncommon for the genre and it had a strong point to it (message is the wrong word, but it hangs together).

Last I saw Bright Star after dinner and... wow. My heart absolutely broke watching this film. Campion's work has this sinister stillness to it. It's lovely, but it's so loaded with mood. Crazy stuff, great performances here, too. There was not a dry eye in the house (men included) and the house was *packed*.

OMG :lol seriously how many more movies are their going to be about psychotic creatures of the deep? We got rabid prehistoric sharks, man eating gators, overly hormonal giant squids, pissed off whales, devouring piranhas and oh giant anacondas!

    "Jennifer's Body"

Way better than I expected, and in my opinion a good performance by Megan Fox.

And I loved the exchange between Fox and Seyfried:

Fox: I'm having the best day since like Jesus invented the calendar.

Seyfried: Jesus didn't invent the calendar!

    Fox: Umm, whatever...

Finally got to watch I Am Legend all the way through- liked it quite a bit, even tho parts of it made me sad. (I usually avoid sad movies like the plague.)

Also so Hot Rod, which is ridiculous.

I watched The Matrix today. Love that movie! Pity the 2nd and 3rd ones of the trilogy weren't as good. The funny part was the choices used to clean up the language on A&E channel. The funniest ones were "Shucks" for "sh*t" and "Jeepers Creepers" for "Jesus Christ!" Hi-larious given the tone of the movie.:lol

Yesterday I had looked Dark city. The film was really dark and made good very much. To see interesting as far a person his imagination around his surroundings can change. lol

It was really shot, but effective. The movie never really stopped once it got started. They didn't over do anything, and kept stuff in a good perspective. Definitely worth watching in theaters.

    Jennifer's Body (Minor spoilers)

    I liked this movie
A solid "Not scary" but horror flick about a paranormal happening. A fair pace with some good story tie ins as the movie progresses. Good characters and actors for the main two girls (Jennifer and "needy"). And they explain whats happening very quickly and effectively without drowning you in details.
    (4 of 5)

    The Bad: (Spoilers in here)
    - Jennifer seemed extremely clueless, careless, and like a robot in the beginning. Especially going in to the van. They didn't illustrate her as being drunk or having any drinks so... what was up with that.

    The Good:
    - They didn't play it out as too psychotic... not as many people were killed as I thought there would be.
    - Solid portrayal of strength and weakness throughout the demonic possession.
    - You could somewhat understand the characters and how they felt about things, given their childhood history.

I saw 9 a few weeks ago and loved it. It was deliciously dark and just fantastic. Easily in my top 5 movies of the year.

    Agora:
The Biggest movie of the spanish cinema ever unfortunately is not the greatest. Too disjointed and lacks lots of emotion.

Seems that we don't know how to make this type of movies. The first time we tried Alatriste (36M $) the movie was really bad, and now (73M$) the movie is just Ok.

At least I hope it runs well outside spain, just because our internal top gross ever is something like 30M$.

"The Quiet" with Camilla Belle, Elisha Cuthbert, Edie Falco, Martin Donovan and Shawn Ashmore.

I absolutely loved the movie and I can honestly say that it's officially one of my personal favorites. Solid cast, interesting story, beautiful cinematography and a very powerful score. Good enough for me.

It kinda reminds me of "American Beauty" and maybe that's why I liked it so much.

    Highly recommended.
