Inglourious Basterds
It rocked. I love Tarantino. It was bloody, of course. Christopher Waltz was great. If he doesn't get a Best Supporting nom, the Acadamy is screwed up. (Well, ok, we know it is, but. . .)

I saw Gamer yesterday. I walked away disappointed. The trailers painted a different aspect than what I ended up watching. Liked the hand to hand combat scenes, and I thought Gerard Butler was awesome as hell. But I could have done without all of the sex whoring around crap.
Granted, that kid in there has the potential to be the next big thing if he chooses his roles carefully. He was pretty good in 3:10 to Yuma. Also, when are they going to make an action film where it's Gerard Butler against Russell Crowe. Now that would be sweet. (Russell would have to play the bad guy though, he's done some pretty good villains in the past, like in Romper Stomper and Virtuality!
Over the past few weeks:
Dr. Strangelove - Kubrick & Peter Sellers = Win. Hadn't seen it in a while, still makes me laugh.
Dog Day Afternoon - classic Pacino.
Gamer - Movie was ok (weak ending though), a little more satirical than the trailer lets on, but next time I suggest they leave the editing to actual people and not woodpeckers.
Braveheart - Just picked it up in Blu-Ray.![]()
Jaws: The Revenge: Strange mix betwen a family drama and a Superhero movie with lots of "movie inside a movie" details.
And sometimes we see a shark doing things.
1/10
Yeah, is that. Also the shark blows up for no reason and have some weird mental powers.
I love that movie. Michael Caine appears to be intoxicated the entire time! :lol
"When you make something no one hates, no one loves it." - Tibor Kalman
And what about the awesome and evil wooden log? During the first 20 minutes I thought the log was the real bad guy.
But in fact the bad guys where the writter, the director and everyone who allowed this to be named Jaws.
hi, new to the forums, so i'm not about to start attacking people's opinions just yet but i must disagree with you on the note of Bay's love stories. The love stories are almost always worked in as add-ons to the main storyline. They distract from the plot instead of enriching it. Did we ever really care about Sam and Mikaela's love story - or was it the most obvious foregone conclusion since Pearl Harbour being bombed by the Japanese? Sure Megan Fox has a nice ass but that doesn't really enrich the story - just the pictures.
If we look at the great love stories of action movies - Die Hard, Gladiator, Lethal Weapon - they all added to the emotional subtext of the movie rather than putting someone in a tight top and hoping that was enough.
Michael Bay's movies are purely about the wham bam thank you ma'am - ironic since that is all his female characters are ever portrayed as. As for connecting with any of Michael Bay's characters (and I say this being a fan of the Transformers movies) - I connected more with Megatron than I did any of the humans.
Michael Bay - action genius - certainly, Michael Bay - emotional daring - don't think so......
"Freeway" with Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer Sutherland, Brittany Murphy and Brooke Shields.
What a sick, sick movie. Really violent and somewhat nasty, but it's produced by Oliver Stone so it's not really a surprise. Personally, I liked the movie even though I'm not really a fan of these types of films.
I think it's all because of the great performance by Witherspoon and the rest of the cast. So if you're a fan of movies like "Natural Born Killers" or "Reservoir Dogs", you can be sure about one thing - you'll love "Freeway".![]()
Of course you have the right to disagree with me, just like I have the right to disagree with you.
What I said was nothing more than my own personal opinon and my own personal observation. And the truth is that people see what they want to see in his films - some see nothing but action, others see nothing but CGI...I see likeable characters, action, comedy, drama and that's the reason why I love his movies.
so we agree to disagree. well played, my good sir, well played.
one note though, must agree, the pearl harbour attack sequence IS one of the best i've ever scene. that high angle pov of the missile dropping - AWESOME!
and this movie is one of the reasons that world war two fighter planes are still one of my favourite things to see on screen.
Wargames is the coolest film i'e seen lately. stars matthew broderick as a teenager who accidentally hacks into Norad and brings the world to the brink of WW3. The computers do date the film somewhat (given that it was made in 1983) but it's still a ridiculously entertaining film. even if you have to excuse obvious plot contrivances such as tour groups inside Norad.
Varsity Blues
Entertaining melodrama with some decent performances from James Van Der Beek and the rest of the cast.
However, Jon Voight steals the show in my opinion playing an %#%@$@$ of the head football coach.
The Final Destination
Good 3D.... dire.... short.... pretty sure I saw exactly the same film 3 times somewhere else....
The Fog ~the original with Jamie Lee Curtis. Not quite what I expected but it works.
Earth Girls are Easy~ I had seen bits of it thru the years but this was the first time straight thru. I didn't even realize it was a musical. Features Jim Carrey in one of his early roles. I think this was done back around the time he was on In Living Colour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Living_Color ,http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xwo...ing-colors_fun ,http://www.spike.com/video/in-living-color/268199.

District 9 - Great movie.
"The Grudge: Old Lady in White"
It definitely exceeded my expectations. Scary and extremely creepy.
And it's only 60 minutes long.
I enjoyed the movie. Obviously not the greatest thing I've seen but it was pretty fun.
Wasn't annoying in the TV edit how they edited out the moaning and screaming of the Persians in the scene where the Spartans are stabbing the remaining survivors lying around? Was that necessary? It totally ruined it for me.

The Mist starring Tom Jane (great actor by the way).
It was a great but tragic movie. Coming from an expert director and writer (Frank Darabont) and the ending sticks with you.
