funny story, my dad walks in the room demanding things from me the moment the spot came on, so when I look up to the TV, I see Shia's face and then a cut to a mess of darkness and then the next ad is on. I went online and had to watch it 3 times before I could tell what was going on in that last shot (at first, all I could see was Optimus and a massive explosion, then I got some sense of scale, then I was like "whoa, what IS that?!"). It's a very dark (low-light) trailer which makes me fear that the movie is going to be likewise 'under-exposed'.
** I hope the whole movie isn't as dark as the trailer because there's nothing I hate more than an action scene in darkness where you can't see anything at all (ahem, batman). What's the point spending millions of dollars on VFX if you're going to hide the effects in darkness? ** (the same is true when the shots are too tight (zoomed in))
Other than that I think it was sufficiently ambiguous.
Okay, honestly, I don't know how it will fare with people who weren't looking out for this ad, because it was so brief and a lot of the shots were really dark (esp on your basic CRT monitor - with some real contrast), BUT perhaps all you needed was a reminder. My friend didn't want to see the first movie thinking: "It's a movie about the toys? Come on." (Even I didn't want to see it, but I knew it would be good because it's Michael Bay.) After his friends raved about for like ten months, he finally saw it and was blown away. I think this teaser (with its similarities to that of the first) will yield the same reaction - indifference. But that's only if you haven't seen the first movie! If you HAVE seen the first, you'll be like "Oh my God! YES!! ANOTHER Transformers movie! and WHOA! What was THAT!"
I just felt like voicing an opinion that wasn't as adoring as the other ones here.
P.S. How did you get permission to blow up an air-craft carrier? Isn't that taboo?
P.P.S. That shot where Shia is pinned: Wasn't that like straight out of the first movie? It felt like deja vu. Obviously there were subtle differences, but those two shots (profile and crane) kinda made me feel like: "Wait, what's new here? I'm not gonna get a mirror copy of the first, am I?" But you're probably going for the echo effect rather than the copy effect. OK.![]()
