Horror remakes & Platinum Dunes

Now, please, don't judge this thread by the title.

First off, let me get this out of the way before I say anything else: I think PD has done a fantastic job with the remakes it's produced so far. The two "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies were great, "Amityville" was great; to me PD is the one group of people that actually care about the films they're remaking. One of the reasons I'm incredibly psyched about the new F13 is how close they've stuck to the first four films of the franchise (the best ones IMO).

Now, after F13, Dunes is going to Elm Street. I'm pretty curious about what will happen with that one, but I do hope that they at least bring Freddy back to his roots with the first two films, making him a very frightening, evil figure, and not Eddie Murphy with claws. Sure, he needs a sense of humor to be Freddy, but the audience shouldn't laugh along with him.

All that being said, I'm curious to see what they'll do next after ANOES. What horror films would you guys like to see them tackle? Myself, I think "The Burning" would be great, though it may be a little too close to F13 for some tastes. Phantasm is another one I'd like to see brought back from the dead, since Phantasm V is not looking very likely at this point. Although, personally, I'd really like to see what could be done with the classic classics. Dracula, Frankenstein, characters like them really need a modern upgrade, because so far, the only thing this decade has to offer toward such franchises are bad TV pilots, DTV garbage, and Dracula 2000, which can only be 'okay' at it's highest points. The gothic horror of the 30's and 40's could really bring a breath of fresh air. With a certain Wolf Man howling at the moon this November, now is a good time to consider that sort of thing.

I'm never one for remakes to be honest...

however I would LOVE to see a remake of Fire In The Sky! I first saw it when I was 9 years old and still haven't recovered!

a good remake of War of the Worlds..the old one was so much better in scope of how it felt..the new one became to overgrown..

The TCM remake was actually instrumental in me coming over to being a hard core Michael Bay fan. I was a long term horror fan and the TCM remake just blew me away. I was impressed with Bay's involvement and giving guys like Nispel a break, and not interfering and trying to turn them into PG13 holiday fare. Hard core. And TCM Beginning was utterly devastatingly hardcore. I find it uncomfortable to watch parts. R Lee Ermy rocks hard.

I thought the Hitcher remake was awesome also, but haven't seen Amytiville (wasn't much into the original either, but I keep meaning to give it a go. Maybe if it turns up on blu ray now...)

And I love Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Utterly love it. It is a non cliched invasion film. It isn't a remake as much as a film set in the same set of events as the originals. It is a film in my top 5.

Here's some advice on the Amityville movie. When/if you do see it, don't watch it as a representation as the true story or the book, because at that, it fails miserably. Don't watch it as a remake of the first film, as it takes more than enough liberties. Watch it as a haunted house movie, which it succeeds at tremendously. I'd have to say the same for "War of the Worlds" as well. It's okay as a remake of the film, horrible as an adaptation of the novel, but as a film on it's own, I thought it was great.

Whoa hard to believe...but I actually agree with almost everything you said...I would love to see a phantasm remake...evildead if it wasn't all corny like part two,though the lines are what gave it cult status....but I loved the scariness of the first one...

On a phantasm note, back in the early 90's me and my mom were crusing down the street, and a herse pulled up along side of us I liked the car. it had an older guy driving he turned and looked right at me, I bullsh&^%t you not the guy was the spitting image of the mortuary guy from phantasm I was like mom check it out its the dude from phantasm, she just chuckled and said trip out. true story.this was in l.a. kinda by hollywood glassel park erea.
