    Movie Ads Permitted During Oscars

Now there's even more to celebrate.

    by Matt Fowler

US, October 9, 2008 - Next year, when you bring the bagel chips and Corona Light to your respective Oscar viewing party, make sure you bring your love for movies. Movies being advertised. That's right, starting in '09 the film studios will be able to bombard you with flashy images for their upcoming movies during the commercial breaks.

Even though the voting process is over long before the Oscar telecast hits the air, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science had always deemed movie commercials to be "inappropriate" to run during the actual broadcast. It seemed to run the risk of making it look like, as The Hollywood Reporter put it, "studios were influencing the outcome of the awards." And even though there are still plenty of restrictions involved with being able to place ads for specific movies, The Academy now sees it as a way, as spokeswoman Leslie Unger puts it "to celebrate the movies, which is what the show is all about."

There are a few catches however. No ads for nominated movies, duh. And no prequels or sequels to nominated films either. That's right, there will be no commercials for Revolutionary Road 2: Nerds in Paradise. The spots also have to be for future releases, and not for movies that would be showing in theaters at the time. Each distributor gets one ad spot.

    - Warner Brothers
    "Heath better win, dammit."
The opportunity involved in advertising highlighted projects or upcoming summer blockbusters to the cinema-phile crowd, however diminishing, that tunes in every year to watch the fanfare is a very attractive proposition for studios.

Variety speculates that "we might see some next year's tentpoles like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe and Terminator Salvation." Now even if your favorite movie got snubbed, you can probably still watch The Oscar Ceremony and see some cool footage from the cinematic juggernauts of Summer '09.

    i got this from IGN

I heard about this. Tranformers isn't going to be nominated this year since it was up for best sound, editing, and such last year. (I can't remember if they got one.) This might not be such a bad rumor.
They call me Ratchet Girl for a reason. Sometimes Skids girl.
    Yeah, I'm a girl...SO FREAKING WHAT????

One hell of a combo eh?
ya it would be but they have already shown full trailers for all these movie but TFs so why would they re-show all of them with the bond movie? Im no saying they wont but I find that hard to believe.

My favorite rumor so far is that Optimus Prime is going to join together with Jetfire during a fight, that would be badass!
