Synopsis:
The documentary RELIGULOUS follows political humorist and author Bill Maher (“Real Time With Bill Maher,” “Politically Incorrect”) as he travels around the globe interviewing people about God and religion. Known for his astute analytical skills, irreverent wit and commitment to never pulling a punch, Maher brings his characteristic honesty to an unusual spiritual journey. Directed by Larry Charles (BORAT: CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA FOR MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION OF KAZAKHSTAN, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), RELIGULOUS will mark Charles’ first feature project since the critically acclaimed, wildly successful BORAT. Jonah Smith and Palmer West of Thousand Words (A SCANNER DARKLY, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) and Bill Maher are producing.
well that's a one sided view on all religions.
I give it one star, which is the bare minimum for existing.
"...my heart is turned to stone; I strike it, and it hurts my hand..."
Have you seen it?
I've always defended Michael Bay against attacks that his films are full of stupid explosions, girls in underwear and mindless characters... but then he made Transformers 2 and I conceded...
Just in the past we are often hearing of religious nuts complaining over films they haven't seen. Like Kevin Smith getting hate mail and death threats over Dogma by people who hadn't even seen it. Or like this publisher in the UK last Monday who had his house torched because he published a fictional book about the prophet Mohammad. I listened to a radio show where a religious leader was defending the culprits even when he admitted he never read the boo.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian and this film does seem a bit disturbing. But I won't bash it until I've seen it.
Just read this back and this message seems a bit aggressive towards you. Sorry if it comes across that way dood.

So a movie questioning religion (albeit in a humorous way) is a bad thing? As bad as giant bugs from Kendathu?
Bill Maher on CBS
Bill Maher on Larry King
Bill Maher on The View
You're making feel guilty about not watching Dragon Wars.
anyways, I have no interested in seeing someone use faith and sarcasm on a select few stereotypes to bad mouth God or any other deity or religion for that matter. By the way, I may sound like a hypocrite but I'm a Catholic and I loved Dogma.

you know, I think I am coming off as a zealot, and I'm not meaning to be. Hell, I like many of the Atheist I know, and I really don't believe they are going to hell.
But this movie just seems a little to much like punching the retard kid. Maybe that says something about religion. all I know, is there are so many beautiful beliefs out there about the world on the otherside. I really don't want to watch a movie parades that around like a freak show.
granted watching those clips, it doesn't seem as harsh as the trailor makes it out to be, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I just don't find it funny, which is a shame, because I think he makes some really good points.
oh, and I loved the first Starship troopers.

While I am comfortable questioning many things...I will never question someone's religious beliefs.
My only comment on this subject is a clarification of Maher's beliefs. He has routinely mentioned that he is NOT an Athiest. He cleary states that he does not know what does/does not exist. It is the establishments of God (religion) that he does not believe in. I have never heard him say that he does not believe in God. In his words, declaring himself as an athiest is stating that there is proof God does not exist...and thus creating a religion.
Holy shit, agreeing with a liberal!!? I need a doctor.
Seriously you're right, some conservatives see religion as a family tradition. It keeps the family together, and strong.
Not all of us believe in it though, or agree with it. In an ideal world people would be smart enough to see through the lies, unfortunately that isn't the case.
Religion has caused more wars, genocide, murder than any other force in the history of mankind.
If the film is questioning organized religion, like Nelson says, then I'm all for it. I find it destructive, hypocritical and dangerous.
But if the film is attacking someone with faith, then to me that's nasty and pointless.
I may check it out though if that's whats Nelson is saying.

I never question religion directly, more like how it is interoperated by it's followers. Some people think of it as a way to peacefully keep the family together, while other's see it as an excuse to murder, kill, bomb, invade, etc.
