Which band should be tapped to do the Transformers theme song?
They had one in the first movie, and it did it's part, but I think the second one should contain a definitive version that could unseat the classic rock theme.
Even though it's impossible I think they should try to get g&r to do it!
Or at least get slash to do blowout tf solo!

Lol literally the next web page I go to after posting the above message announced that g&r has a song on the new Ridley Scott/Leo Dicaprio movie! So the band IS open to movie soundtracks. Rock on!

The music in the first movie was very distinctive. It worked for them. While of course they'll need to use new songs for TF2, I think they should stick to the same sort of theme that they used in the first movie but make it a little darker.Just my opinion, anyway.

I stick with my original thoughts.
System of a Down = The Touch
Alterbridge = Transformers Theme
Breaking Benjamin = original song.
If any of those were true, I would have to hunt Bay down and give him a kiss.

hahaha actually I support all three of those ideas.
But I'd rather keep the movie all instrumental again. In fact I'd prefer all orchestral rather than rock thrown in like the two Bumblebee scenes. The music was good but completely ripped me out of the movie both times. Just seemed so out of place.

Just because the movie stays instrumental for the most part doesn't mean there's no room for some kick ass rock songs...for the title screens, credits, and even incorporated into a movie as a character listens (Terminator 2).
Also, one of the reasons I picked that band is because of the audience.
The fact is a ton of people went to see the first movie because they grew up with the Transformers, either G1 or Beast Wars...and in the early 90s that was the biggest band in the world.
Mr. Bay is our generation too, he probably might have some of their albums as well.

no bands. No offence but it ends up being a product to promote the band via the movie, instead of a great piece of music.
What they should do is get Jablonsky to write some rock stuff and get in some key session guys (zimmer and jeff beck on days of thunder for example). They did that on mortal kombat and last action hero too (buckethead).
If i was a somebody or famous i'd throw in my resume.

i couldn't disagree with you guys more. Transformers needs rock music to complete the feel. at least that's the way I see it.

Amen. Any rock or other contemporary sounding music would just date the film more. Jablonsky's score is amazing. It's enough for me.
And when is the last time you listened to Lion's version of the theme song? Does that really sound classic to you?

Because the cars won't date it at all. Oh and I don't really listen to the them song, but I do still listen to "Instruments of Destruction," which is what was playing during the shuttle take over.... Oh, and "Dare to be stupid.

This is just a short list, but I defy you not to find at least 3 movies in there that that rocked and had an awesome soundtrack.

Well, I don't think what I said contradicts that. I did say date it "more".
Instruments of Destruction kicks balls, but when you hear it, you hear 1986 too. Same can be said for Dare. I love those songs, but they're period music, and although I guess you could update them and somewhat contemporize them, I don't want to necessarily hear 2009 when I watch the movie in 20 years. I'll already be seeing it to a degree.
That being said, some aspects of rock music don't come off as dated as others. When I say that, I mean the necessary components that comprise rock's core - bass, drums, loud electric guitar. And that is why "Pretty Handsome Awkward" rocks mightily when the Bumblebee/Barricade chase insues in the movie.

86 aside. too bad the only Disturbed track wasnt even in the 07 movie. I've always liked their style, they could make a really good theme, or bring it back with a monster cover.

I think it'll fit well in the 2nd movie..just an opinion though..
