But the reality for Mr. Biden is that while running mates are second-fiddlers by definition, the phenomenon of Ms. Palin has rendered him something of a fourth or fifth fiddle. It is not like last month, when reporters swarmed Mr. Biden’s Delaware home and delegates swooned at the Democratic convention. He is now trailed by just a few national reporters, and struggling to break through in a race marked by historic firsts, political celebrities and charismatic newcomers — none named Joe Biden.

And people if you want to participate in this thread please don't go off saying "Obama sucks" or "McCain is a dumbass". You are welcome to intelligent and open debate, but no offensive or insulting stuff about the candidates AND the supporters.

I found this interesting quiz online: http://www.votebyissue.org/election2008/

You have to be very careful on this one. They display a quote that each candidate says without telling who said it and you must check whether you agree, disagree, or both for each quote. You might be surprised by your results.

no, seriously I should know my politics...

An interesting site people, if Alaska is "unknown' to you, try this: http://www.ktuu.com/

    Biggest news story

    South Anchorage beaver will live

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A busy beaver in South Anchorage will live to build another dam, the Department of Fish and Game says.
Thursday morning, Fish and Game said that the flooding in Meadow Park near 68th Avenue and Brayton Drive was actually caused by a collapsed culvert, and not the lone beaver who calls the area's wetlands home.
Fish and Game originally said the beaver would likely have to be killed, because relocating the rodents often leads to starvation.
But for now there are plans to fix the crushed culvert and allow the beaver to stay.

That quiz means nothing to me though. Some of those quotes could be easily mistaken for coming from the wrong person. One would really have to watch the news constantly to know exactly who said those quotes.

On the quiz, it says I support Obama. It also says I agree with Obama and McCain on some issues, and for one issue it says I was against Obama. In reality, I support Obama on practically every issue. The quiz is really more or less a test to see how well one knows their politicians.

that's the point. If you are trying to figure out who said what, you are missing the entire purpose of the the quiz

What is everyone's opinion on McCain's request to postpone the debate?

Wouldn't it make since to hold a debate during the most challenging financial period our generations have experienced?

I'm going with Obama on this one that a president can work on several subjects at the same time and, i think, that he must be immune to stress!
Let see if he can achieve that. :lol

I have no favorite between the two

I have to add that if you do post articles you should have an equal amount of both positive and negative for each candidate.

I just finished watching the debate. Wow! Why isn't Palin speaking during the follow up? Biden is there to represent his running mate. That really concerns me.

And can Guliani open a conversation without laughing. Seriously, it will give you more credibility!

Just watched too. Perfectly agree with you. Obviously it is apparent that everything that Obama supports or does seems like a joke to Guliani. Especially the whole "community organizer" thing.

As for the actual debate, I found that Senator McCain seemed too nostalgic on the majority of the issues, always relating to Reagan policies and stuff. I find being nostalgic during a presidential debate a problem because one would lose focus on the issues that are happening now.

Trivia: From watching these guys take notes, they both seemed to be writing left-handed. Also, Senator McCain didn't seem to be wearing an American flag pin and Senator Obama was. Not that that has anything to do with the debate but I found that ironic in the way that Obama was typically criticized for not sporting the American flag pin. :lol

It's amazing what you can learn from this. I am looking forward to the next debate.

And here are a couple more things I want to point out.

Whenever Obama speaks, McCain doesn't even look at him, in fact, he practically looks away. The guy seems like he is irritated whenever Obama speaks. However, when McCain speaks, Obama has his eyes fix right on McCain and is paying very close attention.

McCain also appears to show that he doesn't want Obama to debate with him. Whenever Obama responds or says "that's not true" to some of McCain's comments, he doesn't fire back, he just keeps yammering on as if he were completely ignoring Obama. Doesn't seem very presidential to me.

Phht no wonder McCain wouldn't stop yammering when Obama was trying to tell him something, he was too fixed on reading the TelePrompTer! One question though, why would there be one for a debate? Wouldn't that ruin the whole purpose?

Anyways it's no TelePrompTer. John was just irritated by Obama, and that is very un-presidential to not look at your opponent when he is talking to you. He might as well covered his ears and say "LALALALALALALALALA!!!" while Obama spoke.

They both spent a great deal of time looking to their 'camps' for input and advise. What I found interesting is the intentness on Obama's face. He would look away briefly, and then immediately return to McCain.
Although I am voting Obama/Biden...I like McCain. I always have. But in my book, he was weak on stage. He looked uncomfortable and did a poor job. I am willing to bet that his staff will encourage him to watch Obama the next time they are on stage.
