Nobody wants to become an alcoholic and I hope he does get help before it gets any worse. And I'm not saying this because he's a movie star. This goes for anyone who has an addiction. For any of you who don't know jack shit about addiction I recommend you rent or buy the DVD Jake the Snake Roberts: Pick your Poison. Everything you ever want to know about the subject is there.

How does getting drunk a few times make you an alcoholic?

It's not the getting drunk, it's the inability to stay sober (or at least stop at a decent point).

Isn't the inability of staying sober the same thing as getting drunk?

Seriously, I don't see what the big deal is, haven't we all gotten drunk before?

The big deal is this quote:

"It's not something that is conducive to being a role model — no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that," LaBeouf told Details. "And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink."

The question becomes, when he is drinking, does he reach a point where becomes someone else and totally unreasonable? Was this incident a one-time thing or do people watch him stumble back to his car on a regular basis? It may just be a social habit, rather than dependency. A LOT of it has to do with the company one keeps. Does he hang out with jackasses who shovel it in all night? Or are they human beings who can keep a friend sober? Although, you've be surprised how difficult that actually is.

I was at the Red Lion with my close friends last month and we were just having beers and that's okay. Beer is like food in my stomach, can't shovel that in, and these friends, who I've known *forever* know that liquor could be a problem for me. But, y'know, the one female in the bunch suddenly decides she wants a White Russian and then bam! everyone wants one (and who wouldn't?) and well gosh, then shouldn't I get to have one, too? So I do, one drink leads to several more, another bar, and hours later I'm stumbling over a piece of broken pavement on my way out of the Big Foot Lodge and I end the night in a lot of pain, cradling a sprained wrist. Everyone blames my drunk-assed-ness and not the big hole in the pavement, because people think of me as an alcoholic. How horrible is that? I wouldn't wish that on anyone, including Shia.

I continue to blame the ass-hats who were only too happily to report to the press how Shia stumbled out of the bar that night while THEY STOOD THERE AND DID NOTHING and the fools who allowed the star of Transformers to buy a fucking F-150 (and raise it!). ..

According to an article at Men Style, he got into the acting business cuz he was flat broke. If he bought a Ferrari, he'd be broke again. He's not exactly $25+ million-a-picture-Will-Smith here.

The article also clearly quotes him saying that he's not into all the flash and parties and women around him. He's an actor because its a job.

The author of the article says those who flaunt it are the ones who are really bad at what they do. And those who don't are the ones who do a good job. There's alot of truth to that.

I never said he was. I was referring to alcoholism in general. Also when I posted my comment I was Not Fully Aware Of The Facts. Of course, It's Hard to get the true facts when there are so many so called "Reliable" sources ( Shia needing to get his pinky amputated? Should have known that was Bull Shit).

Personally I don't believe it matters if alcoholism or whatever runs in your family. In the end we all have a choice. You can choose to drink or you can choose to not drink. You can choose to be a drug addict or you can choose to not be so. You can choose whatever you want. It does not choose you. Its just a matter if you want to break the cycle or continue with it.

That is an interesting statement, Hollowed. Speaking from personal experience, I agree that it does not choose you. We all have a choice. However, we will all responded differently to the choices that are before us.

When one grows up with an substance dependant parent, the child will go to one extreme or the other. They won't become a casual drinker. They are accept their experiences as "the way life is"...or "the way life will never be".

Unfortunately, that decision is generally made at an early age, well before we become rational adults.

Although we do not know everything Shia is living with, I really wish him the best. I know a lot about this subject, and he certainly has a major challenge to deal with.

Incidentally, I live on Fountain Avenue now, a little ways from where Shia's truck was turned over. Since I came home this afternoon at 3:30 there have been no less than three car accidents in front of my apartment. People are literally playing crash car derby on Fountain where the road loses a lane. One guy's little red ragtop, and this guy was probably younger than Shia, actually got pushed up onto the sidewalk, practically into a tree and the dude that hit him drove away! The cops came and rescued him and his car had to be towed. The last two were fenderbenders. People came out and helped the guy in the ragtop, though, and the last two dudes to thwack each other actually shook hands.

    ...AND IT'S TUESDAY?!?! WTF???

Well said. The Zen idea is there is no such thing as Starting... only stopping.

This is beyond stupid, people should lay off the guy, hes young, I partied way harder than he did at his age, or at least I think I did, and I'm fine. Theres nothing wrong with him or what hes doing, I'll bet 70% or more of people his age are doing the same social activities. Its laughable listening to people try and sound like alchohol councilers concerning Shias drinking. People are so fucking rightious. Yes my spellings bad.

For starters, it came out that the accident wasn't his fault. It was the driver in the other car. So I don't understand why everyone keeps attacking him about that. There was no charges brought against him. He was a victim in that incident. Of course there was that whole Walgreens thing a while back. But everyone has done something dumb in there lives. Let the poor kid alone. I'm not saying he doesn't have a problem. But who are we to say he does. None of us know him. We just see what is on the news or tabloids. Look at all the stories about his hand. I read so many different stories about what happened and what was going to happen with his hand. it was insane.
