Thumbs up The Rock hits Blu-Ray 1/8

Sorry if any one talked about this before... But The Rock is coming to Blu-Ray on January 8th here in the states. It'll be AWESOME to see this movie in uncompressed sound! The Criterion version had amazing picture quality, so hopefully this is created from the same master. Can't wait!!!

That'd be a no... and the same goes for Bad Boys, Bad Boys II and Armageddon. And as you probably know, Pearl Harbor is already available exclusively on Blu-Ray (with an AWESOME 24-Bit uncompressed audio track).

I didn't know Sony owned all of that. That sucks.

They don't own Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and The Rock - Disney do. Disney, like Sony (Columbia, TriStar + MGM), are Blu-ray exclusive.

Personally, I feel the other way; Paramount can keep their HD DVDs and I'll live with my Blu-rays of most of the rest of MB's films.

You determined that after watching one movie, eh? That's skill. Considering the sales for Transformers on HD-DVD haven't even put HD-DVD over the top of Blu-Ray's sales, I'd say that's grabbing at straws? And have you seen Pearl Harbor on Blu-Ray? It's equally impressive. I'd say it might even be more impressive because there's not the weird jagged lines through sharp curved objects (like grills on cars and such). But that's just me and my view of Transformers on HD-DVD... plus the lack of uncompressed audio (needed or not) is pretty stupid IMO. But you can find all that other info (disc space and bandwidth and such) in other threads. And just to be clear, I don't dislike HD-DVD. I just like Blu-Ray much better.

Actually you can check Amazon.com and DVDEmpire.com sales along with other sales numbers that are up to date. DVDEmpire updates theirs by the hour I believe, and I think Amazon.com might as well.

Tjose numbers are not accurate at all, you're still missing all data from brick and mortar stores.

Yeah I know, those are for their stores. But I figured that since most places have buy one get one free sales going on now for Blu-Ray, I'd pick out some place that doesn't.

I'm guessing they'll be 1080p versions of what was on the 2-disc DVD (your 'Criterion' release). Further to what someone was saying about Disney being Blu-Ray exclusive - over here (England, Region 2) Disney own the home video rights to Die Hard With A Vengeance so we effectively got a 'Criterion' release of that (in all but name). And also, joy of joys, an edited version of the film i like to call The Disney Cut . I think all Trilogy and, now, Quadrilogy box sets for Die Hard are joint Fox/Disney releases - because in those even the DH3 box art is of a different 'style' to the others. Happily, though, I'm a Blu-Ray man (not that I own a player...) so I can get things like The Rock. But no Transformers, I guess.

yea, i'll be a BluRay owner by at least the end of 08. I'm in the process of saving up for a 42" LCD screen, 1080p, THEN i'll get the PS3 <i HATE video games, but it's the best Bluray on the market>. If i get every Bay film sans Trans, i'll still be way to happy. I have no intentions of getting rid of my dvd player. i MAY get one of these new "DVD upconversion" players until i finalize my decision to get the PS3.

when did Pearl Harbor come out on Blu-Ray for Region 1?

And how about the Bad Boys movies since they are owned by Sony?

Can anyone tell me why they dont release on both blu-ray and HD, is there some sort of format choice that they are forced to make (HD or Blu-Ray but not both)

    Thnx

Pearl Harbor has been out for a while (December 2006 it was released). It is not the DC though.

They can - some studios have done this (Warner, for example). But obviously as Sony pioneered the Blu-Ray system, it would be like "giving to the enemy" if they released their films on HD-DVD. I reckon some studios choose to release on only one of the format as it's cheaper, and they want to be backing who think will be the winner of the 'format war'.

I thoroughly agree. The Rock is easily my favorite Bay film, and also my father's. I just PRAY we get some deleted scenes or additional special features not on the Criterion dvd.

I'll be getting this one for sure, Cage, Connerey, and Harris make for a phenomenal cast.
Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson.
    What a team.
Mr. Bay, do you have any projects in the pipeline involving Mr. Bruckheimer again?
