    Default name this film equipment

So I was watching the behind the scenes featurette on the DVD and then there was one scene where Michael Bay was prepping up a shot in the city battle and then you see him kneeling down on one knee and then he looks through a small scope. It almost just looks like a long camera lens but without the camera. Its just the scope/lens part.

He can wear it around his neck.

I suppose it is for him to see what the shot would look like without the use of the camera.

Can someone tell me what that piece of equipment is called?

It's called a viewfinder. it's his trademark accessory and he's had it for a long time. Sure someone will come along with great specifics about it.

Not only that, Nelson's got a cool close up of it lying around somewhere with every movie Michael's done engraved on it.

It's an Alan Gordon Enterprises Mark Vb - with Panavision insignia (something you can't buy).

I have one without the Panavision bit.

It's cool how his movie titles have been engraved onto the Viewfinder.

That's such a cool piece of equipment.

I saw Director's Viewfinder on eBay for between $100 to $250 plus shipping.

I'd like to have one just to feel like a director.

wow that is pretty cool, I bet that when Bay gets done Directing Movies that that one little tool will be worth something, considering he has his name and movies that he has directed engraved onto it.

Wow, that's a pretty cheap panavision viewfinder... (I figured at least $1,000) I so badly want one, and really need one when I start more film work and less digital.

Also, that's a great pic. Nelson, I remember that one pic was posted on here a while ago and was color timed a nice blue with post optical soft focus added to the back round.

    Great stuff!!!

OH man! that is completely awesome! and its mind blowing how much they really cost! but i can understand. Its probably this little thing that gives him the ability to have those awesome shots on his movies. Im still pretty stunned about all his movies engraved on it....now lets see how many he can fit! haha :lol
