Hancock is awesome.
My favorite movie this year so far. It has the heart and emotion Iron Man failed to have.

I, too, saw Hancock and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a little confused as to all the negativity.
:wtf
Definitely recommend this movie to anyone interested in an entertaining night at the movies. Hancock is badass, just don't call him an asshole...
Really? That is surprising. (obviously from reading other reviews)
and that this is like the first movie I've seen you start a thread on in a while.
I was proceeding with caution for tonight's showing.
And Berg? Still "meh" as a director?
:wtf Nelson either you hate RDjr. or you have no idea of who Iron Man and Tony Stark is. Your the only person I have heard give two bad remarks about this movie and actor. Its easy to create a superhero and throw Will Smith in there to create the persona he will have on screen for yet another 4th of July opening. But to put a comic superhero that has 40 plus years of stories into one movie and have an actor portay him spot on? Thats talent thats heart that emotion. Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark come to life. His ego actions and speach were like I was watching the comic on the big screen. And I know I am not the only one.
And the other thing is they did not screw up the origin to fit a movie or screw up the cast behind what makes Iron Man what it is..or most important the suit..everything was just 100% best comic movie to date..
and 300 million plus and the reviews to back it up..hard to say it was not good and Hancock better?
On the Iron Man note, the first time i heard of the plot line, i thought of the Demon in a Bottle storyline from Iron Man, which, based on the success of Hancock, may not become what i feel is the next natural step in the Iron Man film franchise. I wish Hancock well <though i hear it's a bad movie> but i don't want it's success to convince producers to go another route with the Iron Man stories. Not that there's not an abundance of stories to flesh out, but i feel Downey's performance as a struggling drunk could be a very personal way for him to relate deeper to the character, giving us an even better sequel.
My Fav Bay -
1. The Rock
2. Bad Boys 2
3. Transformers
4. Bad Boys
5. The Island
6. Armageddon
7. Pearl Harbor
Sorry dudes, Iron Man was cool but I have to agree with Nelson. I thought the movie would make me a fan of the character but it failed on that part too. I did really enjoy it. It set the mood for the summer movies.
Gonna see Hancock tomorrow or Friday. Looks good to me.
They are leaning in that direction and thats one of the most critically aclaimed stories in comic history. And ripe for a movie plot..heck we saw shades of it in the first movie..With his company, the Avengers Initiative his friends and so on..looks like the stress of being a hero might catch up to him and the next evolution of the movie Iron Man takes place..plus the way to bring many of Iron Mans little "toys" into play. I think we might see a few other "Avengers" in the next movie..Black widow anyone?
Actually, I said that the only reason Iron Man was viewable was because of Robert Downey JR., who happens to be one of my favorite actors.
I could care less if the movie is true to its comic book source, that doesn't make or break it for me. Comic book movies have become very predictable and void of emotion (with the exception of batman Returns). Iron man made me feel nothing.
I totally understand where Nelson is coming from. Iron Man is still kick-ass, but that doesnt mean that every element was reached.

I watched it at the July 1st preview screening and it was just ok to me. I don't know which one I liked more, I Am Legend or Hancock. I felt that both movies suffer from 3rd act failure syndrome. Where the movie is interesting and then at the end, it just falls flat.
In I Am Legend, the movie really grabs my attention until they bring in Alice Braga's character. And then in Hancock, it is full of action and comedy until in the 3rd act it becomes melodramatic.
I like Peter Berg, I like how he directs action. The opening action set piece and the bank heist is very reminiscent of the apartment shootout sequence in The Kingdom. Hancock is very entertaining and enjoyable. I'll watch anything with Will Smith in it as he is my favorite actor but if we're comparing Peter Berg movies, I felt that The Kingdom was a better movie. I'll still pick it up on Blu-Ray though, its got some great action in it. I just thought that final act could've been done better.
Anyone catch the Michael Mann cameo??
:lol Thats how I felt about Batman returns...and Bale is one of my Favs....hmm go figure..
But I guess if your taking a movie for what it is a movie then. And not the source material, yea I guess a clean slate look at it is the way your going to watch it. But with Iron Man its not one of Marvels key hero's and they really could of messed him up..like the Punisher how many times now remade?. But they didn't. If they put something in there that makes the role not Tony Stark it would of failed. Or you get much of what you get when you see a comic to movie. Maybe being a comic fan I look at this more than just it being a movie.

I can't trust anything you say after you dissing the Hulk.
Uhh...*cough* Batman Returns?
:lol
I think that's the worst of the Burton (don't even get me started on Schumacker...) but Nolan's....ohhh hell yes.
Now wait for the Dark Knight. Then you'll be saying something different about 'void of emotion' and stuff.
Two weeks!
And this is so off topic, so back to your discussion on Hancock (which I haven't seen yet...)
Oh, and speaking of Iron Man, the two-disk special edition DVD is available for pre-order from Amazon. I got the e-mail this morning, but they don't know when it will be released. I'm betting Christmas or around there.
I'm a dog chasing cars. I don't know what I'd do if I caught one. I don't have plans. I just do things. I'm not a schemer.

I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger.
I enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it was necessarily better than Iron Man, but on par. I enjoyed it just as much. There are parts to both that I didn't like, but those were few. I liked the soundtrack in Hancock better. (old school Ice-T, ftw!)
Since, this wasn't technically based on anything prior, it felt a little fresher than what's been out of this genre. I found myself caring about this character (despite his initial @$$hole-ish behavior), left me wanting with regards to his origin, past, etc. It lacked in the antagonist dept., but the way they set it up you can see why. It's more about finding out who Hancock is/was. That's not to say this movie doesn't have gaping plot holes (but what hero movie doesn't) or missed potential. Like, for example, why the criminal element thinks it can exact any sort of revenge on Hancock, among other things.
Bateman was great.
I liked Hancock's crass humor. "You should sue McDonalds, cuz they f*#ked you up."
The "action" was good. The movie was handheld-heavy, so it felt more on the intimate, single-camera side. Whether that worked or not is a personal preference.
The ending was close to the cheese threshold, but the bit during the credits was funny.

FUCK I MISSED IT! What part was it?! Mann happens to be the greatest living director that ever lived.
As for the film, I'm sorry but it's bad. For the first twenty minutes or so it's great, then goes to generic superhero film then to the SciFi movie of the week.
Oh, and Peter Berg should change his name to "Michael Mann Jr." because he's not so much influenced by him as he is COPYING the man's filmmaking style.
Not interested in watching Hancock. Any movie where the scriptwriter was oblivious enough to originally give it the title "Tonight He Comes" can be passed up, thank you.
Though Charlize Theron looks lovely in the trailers.
and your avatar just about ruined many people's holding out to see Two Face..
Thanks..
overall though....is Hancock worth going to theaters to see? as varied as opinions of the movie are
Everywhere I look you're all I see. Just a fading f@cking reminder of who I used to be.
