Theories on "The Happening"

The Happening

As most of you probably know, “The Happening” is a film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and stars Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel. But what exactly is “The Happening”? What is the event that is killing humans all around the world? I have a theory on what this event might be, surmised from the clues said in trailers and clips.

Theory: All the plants on Earth are releasing pollen into the air, but not normal pollen. This pollen is deadly to humans, and causes them either drop dead, or commit suicide. This event has been caused by pollution into the environment, and is the plants last attempt to rid the world of the creatures that are destroying them. Accompanied by the releasing of the pollen is a high pitched sound, which triggers the effects of the pollen (death). Essentially: The plants are responsible.

Clue 1: The Bees
Stated in the trailer, bees all over the world are disappearing. It is possible that this new deadly pollen cannot be spread by bees, and so the bees have left in search of plants they CAN pollinate.

Clue 2: It always starts around plants
Stated in a clip, one of the events started in a park “like the other ones”. This would co-inside with the theory that plants start the even, and so the first place it would happen in large cities would be the parks.

Clue 3: Everyone’s dead outside
Said in the trailer, everyone is dead outside. This could work because if you can’t hear the sound, the pollen will not hurt you.


These are just my theories, and are probably not accurate at all with the actual movie’s plot line, but whatever. What do you think?

Yea, definitley, i love it more every time i watch it. Watched the film and the bonus features recently again for the first time in years, i'd say i even love the film,Willis seems to do good work most of the time.
